Nowadays you can just walk into a guitarshop and buy a Fender like that (Fender Strat HSS line), back in those days you had to chop up your axe to have the buckers fit in. I guess Dave (or his guitar tech) was the first one who "mangled" his Strat to get that awesome sound.
