  • I had a 77 w/a and it was more of a poor-man's Lincoln Mk V. Great body-style, long hood, short deck and a 351 that gave it decent acceleration. I never knew they made a wagon, how sad for Cougar. This body style ran for just 3 yrs.

Did anyone here notice that Farah Fawcett did most of the commercials for Cougar?

  • the engine on the 1977-1979 Mercury Cougar

    Engine

    4.9 L V8

    5.8 L V8

    6.6 L V8

  • I heard the interior was made by real bits of cougar, so you know it's good.

  • The Mercury Cougar Logo kinda looks like the Symbol of the Thundercats.

  • Fresh from the lair........LOL

  • That's actually quite a nice looking car for something that old.

  • i think they should have stopped with just the coupe never understood why they came out with a sedan and wagon cougar was meant to be a coupe all the way

  • @daved1974 There was a reason why sedans and wagons were added to the lineup. The Montego 'name' was retired and Ford Motor Company decided to add the Cougar Landau coupe, Landau sedan, and the Village Wagon (with or without woodgrain trim) along with Ford's LTD II (former Gran Torino). They were discontinued in the 1978 and 1979 model years. In 1981 and 1982, Ford done the same thing with the Cougar when replacing the Monarch 'name'.

  • Fucking brilliant commercials selling really crappy cars.

  • One of the hottest and most wanted cars in New York City back in the late 70's

  • Another crappy era for American cars. It's too bad they didn't stay with the original Cougar design theme: a 2 door sports type car like it's counterpart, the Ford Mustang. The 4 door and wagon models just didn't work very well.

  • She says to the cougar "Oh...it's OK."

  • I had two of these cars and they drove very nice however at 145 Hp they were way under powerd and had crappy mpg besides having oiling problems & electrical problems !I think if I could get another one I'd use a race shop built motor with fuel injection and a modern 4 speed automatic trans and modern eleltrical system meaning no distributer ! coil packs !

  • Whoever thought the day without Farrah AND the XR-7 would arrive? Very sad indeed....

  • I had a 78. It had a howl in the rear end and the thing wouldn't start when the outside temp got below 32 degrees F. It had a 351 Windsor but it was a dog. What a piece of crap!

  • Where is the midnight blue and Shamieeeeeeeee

  • I love the image Mercury built for themselves in the late 70s. They were so badass.

    Great commercials.

  • Love that 4 door brougham

  • Pimp mobile.

  • I think that's Farrah Fawcett at 0:13- 0:19.

  • Was...she..flying the plane?!?! More of a cougar than ever before! LMAO

  • How could a big beige wagon covered in woodgrain shelfpaper and with a chrome plated hood ornament be considered sporty?

  • the 1977-1979 Mercury Cougar was assembled in

    United States: Lorain, Ohio
