Though we have no appreciation of the politics of the 80s; we didn't live through the era filled with red flags; and we believe in money and materialism rather than communism or solidarity. But as a bitter love song, this is universal. The feeling of having nothing at all 一无所有, and struggling for a better future is just as relevant to today's youth as it was to you back in the 80s, even if the context has changed.
Can't see you, can't see the road, You hand tightly gasped mine. You ask for what I'm thinking, I said you can decide. I felt, you are not metal, but intense with strong mettle. I felt, you are made of blood, because your hand is so hot. What a comfortable feeling, it made me forget I've nowhere to go. You ask me where I want to go, I said wherever you go.
Can anyone tell me when and where this song was performed? This is an inspirational song! Cui Jian is a person of empathy and sentiment! Thanks for posting all of Cui Jian's songs!
This song also touches me greatly! Even though the communist government has suppressed our people, I believe that China is able to gradually moving toward a bright future which is much better than in the past! The government needs to tolerate those intellectuals and students' point of view more since their ideas can help to improve the lives of Chinese people! Violence is not always the right way to solve any conflict! I agree with rabbitrun84 and huoleifengbrian!
This song tells all tragedies of our motherland since 1949. However, the most affecting part is the last line of the lyrics: "I want to always accompany you this way, because I know your suffering best". Because we are all born to be Chinese, we can never cut off our connection to our great country, we have to face the pain together, and strive for a brighter future of our nation together.
当伤害你的是你最爱最依赖的人、事,悲伤和无奈参杂在一起。把青春和年华都加以奉献,却留下一丝苦楚。

I think some modern Chinese do like Cui Jian.

That day you used red cloth,
to cover my eyes, and the sky too.
You ask me what I saw,
I said I saw happiness.
What a comfortable feeling,
it made me forget I've nowhere to go.
You ask me where I want to go,
I said wherever you go.

*I felt, this isn't the wilderness,
*but not seeing the chapped land beneath.
*I felt, I want a drink,
*but your mouth blocked mine.
[repeat *]
I can't go, and I can't cry,
because my body is so dry.
I want to be beside you forever,
because I felt your pain more than ever.

So true, so true. It is this sentiment that makes Cui Jian a great artist.

It's this sentiment that makes it all the more sad that modern Chinese youth don't appreciate Cui Jian, and don't identify with his lyrics...

i believe Cui thought this theme 20 years ago, i don't think he is still wondering u talked about.
