HiAd trucks are not made in 4 axle versions.....Only reason I can think why they made them A1A. Also a 4 axle AC unit can produce nearly the same amount of tractive effort as a 6 axle DC unit
Well there is a long history if four axle units. The last were the GP60M's and the B40-8W's, they have had no prolbem with weight. Also, it seems to me that with an A-1-A truck there would be less weight per axle, and therefor less tractive effort.
Yes, there was no issue with the Dash8's and GP60's, but the majority of the equipment on these units was a lot lighter.
The GEVO's though, whilst they have a 12 Cylinder engine, the GEVO12 prime mover is roughly the same weight as a FDL16. Then the new intercooler/radiator package on a GEVO is much heavier than the regular package on the Dash8's.
Good Luck getting all the GEVO bells and whistles (excuse the pun) below the axle loading.
I should also mention that the B40-8's and GP60's were very rough riding units, yet the 6 axle versions were much improved (So im told). Maybe this also has something to do with the A1A distribution....
6601 looks like it blew up already.

The ES44C4 are unique in that the unpowered axle's height can be adjusted.

What happened to the days where they put 5 or 6 SD40-2's on a train? No problems keeping a train moving with that power...

I don't get it. Why make an A-1-A loco? Why not just make a four axle unit?

How would you distribute the weight on the wheels then??

Good point, I never thought about the fact that a GEVO is a lot heaver than the older units.

No fire damage. Just oil. Makes me LOL that it happened on such fresh paint.
