just wanted to ask if u added your fishes all together at once or at different times. cuz Petsmart people tell me they arent compatible (oscars & pacus) but yours seem to be okay...
@jdog0612 First of all, is it really necessary to call me an idiot for not knowing the name of a fish?? Secondly, you spelled "leporinus fasciatus" wrong, you forgot the "s" in "fasciatus" --> you spelled it "faciatus."
While I appreciate your constructive criticism, at least learn to spell before calling me an idiot. Also, you should learn to use capitalization and punctuation, the comma key is just to the left of the period key (use comma's where your first two periods are.)
Ha, I'm not sure "cute" is the right word. He's cool to watch and active, but he is pretty stupid and rowdy.
He killed my Gar about a month ago. The Gar had a goldfish trapped in it's mouth, was preparing to turn and swallow it when the Pacu bit the goldfish and Gar's lower jaw off. I'd seen him go after fish before when the Gar caught them, I don't blame him, easier than chasing the fish all over the tank! Either way, the gar, which was coolest in my opinion, died.
@PowPowHeehee No gar in this video, but a gar is a long, thin silvery/dark carnivorous fish. They can grow HUGE, mine was about 15-16 inches or so when he died (the Pacu ripped the Gar's lower jaw off). At least one of my other videos is of the Gar (eating a crayfish if I recall) if you're curious what one looks like. Cool fish for sure, but they keep growing indefinitely! I'd like to get another one at some point...
Nice, yeah he is big as hell. Nearly 10 inches now, he, and his black/orange counterpart currently reside in a pond out front with several large goldfish. He needs a new home ASAP as winter approaches (I have a feeling they won't appreciate OH temps).
Nope, they are quite similar looking though. I had 2 red belly piranhas that the pacu lived with for a while. Main difference I saw was the jaws, piranhas seemed to have greater overbite and sharp teeth. The pacu's teeth are flatter, more herbivore based.
They are both rather skiddish, and big dummies. I wouldn't put piranhas with other fish, but the Pacu does well w/ others. He can be a bully, but generally leaves the other fish alone.
Yeah, I do realize its only a matter of time.. He has grown about an inch in the last month or so. Its impossible to slow him down, any food that is put in the tank he goes after, even live food now (never went after goldfish etc). He is a touch over 14" now. I am concerned about how big he eventually will be, the gar as well, but he's growing much slower.
