FREE amp sims ...TUBEBABY and SimulAnalog Guitar Suite.... (google and get them)
No mics , stands, cables or electricity...entire studio runs off of one 15 amp wall outlet.
REAPER from cockos is great software. Listen to - "I don't want you" the Marshall JCM 900 in fact entire CosmiClown guitar recording done with freeware. Good video Andrew I love gear too, but seriously sick when I hit a Song template in Reaper, turn on my ART MP ($40) tube pre-amp, pick up the guitar and Roll .
nice setup. One beginner question for you, do you need to run the mics into a preamp before the audio interface or could you just plug straight into the motu? If both work, what are the benefits? thanks Andy
ive got to say that your style of music is just awsome im really getting into playing that style of ambient, and looking towards buying some new effects. could you recomend some good ones to get started with. thnx
Nice, very interesting! I work completely in Logic myself, but one day I'll hope to have such a brilliant set-up as yourself. Today will arrive a shipment including the Behringer Slow Motion as my first (humble) pedal :-) What puzzles me, what guitars do you use? I think I see Teles and a Strat? Is there anything like a 'standard' ambient guitar, or does any guitar with a decent clean sound apply? Thanks for the video man, good job.
@TheNextCommuter He uses mainly teles for the Ambient stuff, don't rememebr ever seeing him use the strats, and any guitar with a decent clean sound is good for Ambient I find.
@TheResonating if we're generalizing i'd say it's about 50/50. i'd maybe assign a little more importance to the mic (and the room) before a preamp. with that said, a bad preamp can ruin a good signal pretty quick.
Nice studio. I just bought a house and plan to dedicate one bedroom as a studio. I haven't gotten to it yet so the room is still 2 tone hot pink from the previous owners. I see your studio is a yellowish gold color. This might seem trivial but what other colors might you have painted your studio that might encourage creativity? I know certain colors can elicit certain emotions... etc. And how many espresso shots do u take in your Starbucks? LOL - I take 2... LOL
nice i use addictive too. I got bored over the years on the drums factory sound when you purchase it. I guess i used it way too much..... To make some new drum sounds (especially snare) I just play with the pitch and really discover all kind of new drum sounds... anyway keep it up very cool!! very inspiring
@tubescreamer well the space between pressing record and the ready to master product, thats where the mystery usually lies. I would be interested in seeing what order you lay your tracks down and then maybe some insight into how you go about editing and mixing. Obviously you can't show everything but some basic insight with a few technical details thrown in.
I say technical details more so pertaining to the guitar soundscape mixing techniques as those are the least common.
@tubescreamer why dont you do like you start out with switching on the mac have it on record and then show us how you set up, and then the settings, then the recording then to mastering and the final product! that would be greatt man

Thank you for sharing with us your recording tips.
I'm about to buy a Motu ultralite mk3 interface and I see it's what you are also using.
However, why don't you use its internal mic preamps ? Is the M-Audio DMP3 really better ?
Thanks for your advice.

@HitmanJenkins1 Hey man, thanks a bunch ! Yeah, the sound of the guitar is drowned in effects anyway, so it probably doesn't matter that much.

@tubescreamer you could record a hour of the process; lapse it and only show the highlights :)
