looks like shep husky but there may be a pinch of coyotl. i've lived with various coy dogs and wolf dogs and they are the best. shep huskies are great too. would love to find another aussie husky or wolf malmute. it's often pretty obvious unless the dog has been more mixed in heritage. some wolf or coy dogs just ooze with their history
I don't know your dogs behavior, but I'm guessing she's a husky, husky mix. Looks a lot like a German shepherd in the face. Way too big and broad for a coyote. I don't think she's a wolf hybrid either. If she is, it's many generations back. Wolves are very shy, and I'm guessing it would be very hard for you to build a relationship with her as an adult from a shelter. Dogs DO naturally have this coloration, agouti, sable, whatever you want to call it. Doesn't need wolf ancestor to have it.
My husky mix, for example, looks just like your dog, though she is much finer boned with a very narrow head and a much curlier tail. Not sure what she is mixed with. Judging by her gait, stance, and her trainability, I think perhaps German shepherd, but her shepherd parent would have had to have been a very petite dog. Who knows! If you want to know with pretty very good accuracy, get a DNA test! They're down to about 50 dollars now and are super easy to do.
sorry if I double commented on accident-internet problems. Think my dog might be a coydog too, but not positive. I got him at a georgia shelter. He's got a lot of the traits but some dogs might have the same traits without the coyote blood. He has the light yellow-brown eyes, high pitched bark and yippy growls (but rarely makes noise), thin legs, shaggy, he's submissive, doesnt like to play, etc. A good site is dogbreedinfo . com. search coydog. There's some photos and details.
The thickness and facial features of a Shepard. At 3 seconds you can see that hes clearly for the most part German Shepard, but due to his gait, coloring, and some slight physical features from wolfs.
But no worries, good news is that its not a Coyote, there so damn ugly when crossed with with dogs or wolves =).
But more importantly you have a low content wolf Hybrid. So you wont get to much of the wolf behavior, but you will get a sturdy dog, with very little health problems.
Ive been around quite a few wolf hybrids. I have worked with a number of German shepherds in the protection field. From my experianced eye, I can say that your K-9 is not a Coyote, but rather a Low content Wolf hybrid. I would say that the content is in the 25% area.
The long legs, and physical make up are the tell tale signs that he is a wolf hyrbid. The Coyote would have smaller features in respects to muzzle, chest, and over all size.
I have a coydog. she's a coyote/german shepherd mix. she absolutely loves other dogs. very social, and loves to interact with other people. She's a little to excited when meating people though, she's still learning.
Mine is very weary of strangers and other dogs, sometimes acting aggressively if approached with unwanted attention. He is extremely observant and calculates every situation. Very intelligent animal. :)
Looks like the real deal to me. I have a little girl coydog, and the legs are part of what is the dead giveaway. Is this a he/she? Have you noticed any abnormal behaviors? Our baby, loves to sneak food off, and she yips and howls when excited. She is also very submissive when she thinks she is in trouble.
@deadheadie Mine too. She actually will become submissive to small dogs that she could easily over power. But she doesn't know her own strength. She only howls when she's impatient and she wants to walk. She's very hyperactive and has a lot of energy to burn.
shes obviously part wild animal wolf hybrid mixed with shepherd is most likely because not many people are purposfully breeding coyotes to dogs and this dog doesnt look like an oops lol
More likely that she's either a Saarloos wolfhound, or a Czechoslovakian wolfdog. Look at some pictures of those two breeds and you'll see the similarity! :)
depending on where you are from she could be a "Tamaskan" mix..

@limedestruction There are smaller kinds of shepherds. Italian, Dutch, etc.
