@OldEmixX you know what ??? it is too bad he became fat and addicted to drugs by the age of 43. then die young. but i know one thing and i have never met you...he had more, did more, seen more and affected the lives of more people in half a lifetime than you could even think about, let alone doing. if you had ten lives...because my friend you (and your quotes on youtube are the proof) are one seriously sad sack of shit. and i would gladly punch your mothers face for raising such a sad cunt.
Yeah, I'm reading the book The Colonel, I always knew he screwed Elvis over but until reading the book never knew how much. He really only ever cared about how much money he could make. Elvis fought but not enough! Still talent shone through even through the bad stuff, (the movies, etc) Elvis still proved he was great dispite great opposition from his manager.
@TheLisa03 You are not wrong, Elvis never visited Europe which he dearly wanted to do but Parker was an illegal immigrant from Holland and had not got a passport and, had Elvis come out of the U S Parker would not have been able to come with him, he deprived us of seeing Elvis in the UK.
Or you might consider that only the Colonel could have ensured that after 2years in the army Elvis would return a bigger star than before. You might consider that only the Colonel could keep getting Elvis the big bucks even when the movies started to fail. You might consider that only the Colonel could make a deal with NBC to air an Elvis speical in 68 when Elvis was nowhere on the charts. You might consider only the Colonel could keep getting Elvis gigs even after he was a bloated drug addict.
I am sorry you feel like that but I am not the only one who feels that the Colonel was detrimental to Elvis career. I dont agree that only the Colonel could have made Elvis Presley a star. The movies started to fail for obvious reasons, the main one being that most of the movies and the songs in them were crap. Elvis as everyone knows did not want to sing in movies and he certainly did not want to make such bad movies, but the Colonel made him do them.
Lots, maybe even most Elvis fans blame the Colonel, blame Dr. Nic, blame the Wests, blame Priscilla etc. Can't be Elvis' fault, right? But the fact is the Colonel lined up the deals and Elvis signed off on them because Elvis very rarely was a risk taker. In many ways Elvis was a very conservative person. After "Harum Scarum" even the Colonel noticed how poor the movies were getting and so you'll see a slight increase in production values at that point, but he never MADE Elvis do anything.
@KingCreole74 I hate to again bust your delusion of Tom Parker but Elvis hated those movies it WAS Tom Parker who told him either you do them or do nothing cause he like the movies. So Elvis done them until his contract was up then he went back to what he love which was performing. That all Elvis love to do was to perform & make people happy. However agree with you on one point No matter who gave Elvis drugs that ultimately led to his death he chose to do them. It was his decision in the end.
If it weren't for Elvis, the Colonel couldn't have been as famous as he was. And without the Colonel, Elvis wouldn't have been as rich as he was. They needed each toher- at least for a while. I think after the 50s, Elvis should have dumped him.
We have no way of knowing what would have happened if Elvis and the Colonel had split ways after Elvis got back from the army, but when you look at those first few years after the army it was success after success for Elvis even during a rapidly changing pop culture scene and the Colonel had a lot to do with that.
i agree that the colonel helped keep his career active during the army. and immediately set up that show with frank sinatra. but the colonel did a lot of things to hurt elvis too, tho at other times he did help elvis
The 68 TV Special would have been a disaster had Elvis done what the Colonel wanted and sang Xmas songs. He for once stood up to him and sang what he wanted and was a huge success again. He sold out concerts in the 70s because despite being overweight and taking drugs his voice was still there and his fans still loved him. I suggest you read the book The Colonel and you would totally change your opinion of him. Elvis WAS cos of his voice and looks never be another like him.
Here you are correct. The Colonel's vision was a simple Christmas Special and for once Elvis took a hand and did something risky, but that was not my point. My point was that only the Colonel could have sold NBC on the idea of producing not only a TV Special with a fading star but a movie too! (Part of the deal was the NBC eventually produced "Change of Habit".) By 1975-77 Elvis was getting almost universally bad reviews and fans were shocked but the Colonel kept bringing in the money.
@KingCreole74 how did the colonel bring in the money all he did was set up dates and deals that took a lot out of Elvis. I hate to break your nice delusion you have goin for yourself but since we are all being so honest here If Elvis didn't perform then Tom Parker would have died the penniless illegal immigrant that he should have been, the fact are Tom Parker was a con artist that came here illegally and took advantage of Elvis' charisma like almost everyone that hung around him did.
"All he did was set up the dates and deals". That's all, huh? You say they took a lot out of Elvis, well here's a fact: Elvis was the one who would tell the Colonel to set up the tour dates when He (Elvis) needed more money, not the other way around. BTW, you say Tom Parker should have died a penniless "illegal immigrant", Tom Parker served in the US Army and had he gone through channels would have been granted US citizenship easily and well deservedly. God bless Tom Parker.
@KingCreole74 Also, YOU might consider who is keeping the name of Elvis alive NOW! It certainly isnt the Colonel. You might consider Elvis was nearly broke when he died thanks to the Colonel who took half his money and spent it all on his gambling. Also because of the Colonel Elvis never toured the world because the Colonel was an illegal immigrant and wouldnt let him tour because he couldnt go with him. It is his fans old and new that are now keeping Elvis; name alive, not the Colonel.
The Colonel is dead and the Estate got rid of him in the late 70s so your point is moot. Elvis as nearly broke when he died NOT because of the Colonel but because he had no investments and spent money like there was no tomorrow. Furthermore it is a myth that the Colonel got 50% of everything, in most instances he got 25% with there being some times when yes he did get 50%. Elvis has a very simple attitude towards money: spend it and go make more.
I will also add this myth that the Colonel kept Elvis from touring internationally is disproven by the fact that Elvis talked a good game about wanting to vacation in Europe but when push came to shove he couldn't bring himself to do so. Elvis was a creature of habit in a major way and his own worst enemy. I'd suggest YOU read Peter Guralnick's masterpiece two part bio "Last Train to Memphis" and "Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley".
I have read all books about Elvis I could get my hands on, over 30 years of reading and watching documentaries still leaves me with the same conclusion. I dont think Elvis was perfect, I have already said he was weak and I didnt blame the colonel for Elvis taking the drugs, that was unfortunately his own fault for whatever reason. I also dont blame Priscilla for leaving him for his downfall like many Elvis fans do. I totally understand why she left him, he should never have married.
I have already said Elvis was weak and for whatever reason would not stand up to the colonel and take charge of his own career. Its very sad that he just spiralled out of control, and in the 70s I think he just gave up and didnt care anymore what happened to him. I was surprised though to see you are an Elvis fan because you dont sound like you have much respect for him at all. You do sound like you are a fan of Tom Parker. Each to his own. Regards.
The Colonel basically persuaded Elvis not to go to Europe and any other place except the 50 states. I think this is because he was scared he'd find another manager. And Colonel had a pretty sweet deal getting half of everything Elvis got.
Both these points are myths. Elvis was a very conservative type of guy. He talked alot about going to Europe and Japan, but in the end he simply didn't want to do it. He didn't even follow through with plans to go to Europe on vacation with Priscilla and Joe and Joanie Esposito instead choosing to go to the Bahamas. As for the 50/50 split between the Colonel that only began in the mid 70s and only related to merchandising and concert tours, not records or any possible future films.
The Col. persuaded him not to vacation there bc he said if you hadn't toured there, the ppl would be mad that you haven't toured there yet you vacation there. So Elvis agreed and decided not to go.
I have heard that interpretation of events, however, if you were to ask Joe Esposito he'd tell you that Elvis was relieved to have an excuse not to go.
elvis has been criticized for forgetting the words on stage. the thing was he remembered the words to his early songs and not his current songs.that type of short term memory loss usually happens due to TOO MUCH ANXIETY which elvis had alot of on 77 cstanchik
@CSTANCHIK Still, it's puzzling that he nailed the lyrical tongue-twister "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" night after night with no problems. When he was inspired, he was INSPIRED.
No bigger fan than me.. (like millions around the world say).... but this is so sad .. the early signs. ...But hey..... "Before Elvis, there was nothing". ..(John Lennon Quote)......................I think he maybe just got a little tired of repairing all the broken hearts in the world.
Tom Waits Quote. .... MY QUOTE....... ELVIS PRESLEY TOUCHED AND CHANGED THE WORLD .. SIMPLE AS THAT.
yeah your right about the date off show think it was the afternoon performace elvis is not with it at all in this show as was many from that year but great to hear him try this song mega rare
Elvis sounding in good form. Have to smile at the way Charlie Hodge tries to keep up with "E" so he can dish out the scarfs. From 1977 late on his career, and 15 years since the original back in`62.
Thanks for that info. After "Sender" the big number one chart toppers ceased for awhile, especially in the USA. But, as we know "E" was always on the scene.
yeah i think he had one or two more after that before in the ghetto and suspicious minds. they were crying in the chapel and good luck charm. good luck charm proved to be bad luck because it didnt keep up with the changing rock music of the early 60's and the british invasion, and it stuck with the formula they used in the movies. its a shame he lost a whole decade between the army and hollywood. god only know how it all wouldve turned out. his records would be unreachable.
Right. And the worse thing was is that Elvis` voice was probably at its absolute best during those "lean" years. He could sing anything. But for several years top quality songs did not come his way and as you say the "beat" scene had changed and progressed.Songs like "Do The Clam" etc did not stand a chance.
rca, parker, and hollywood ruined what could have been for elvis in the 60's. in the 70's it was parker and rca. everything with rca and parker was about money. there are lots of songs elvis wanted to sing and release on record that they wouldnt let him do because of the royalties issue. elvis said just pay the guys but parker and rca said no. so the only time youd hear elvis sing the songs he wanted to do was in concert or when he was home a sad freaken shame
Parker also screwed up some tempting and challenging film rolls. "Thunder Road" with Robert Mitchum and "A Star is Born" with Streisand. Makes you wanna weep....Elvis could and should have achieved so much more.
having watched elvis by the presleys. i thougut it was told in a way that protect elvis's image. the image that pricilla wannts to protect. because it benifits her .if you want to know elvis just listen to the bodyguards
I'm not a huge fan of Priscilla but I think you are being a little harsh on her. Neither Priscilla or Lisa-Marie have any interest in Elvis's estate. Lisa-Marie sold all rights to Elvis's estate to an American business man a couple of years ago. The preservation of Elvis's image does not benefit Priscilla financially.
@otkrsupporter The Presley family still owns Graceland. She sold most of her interest in the business portion of the estate. Trust me that deal is full of clauses so Lisa Marie doesn't get screwed.
Oh please if it wasn't for the fact that she was once married to Elvis and had his child she would be the nobody that she deserves to be. She benefits everytime there is anything that goes on with Elvis involvement in it. Like the annual celebrations she throws at Graceland to rememorial Elvis. Everytime she does a conference or an interview she is benefitted financially for it.What do you believe she does all this publicity for FREE? Not likely. Priscilla was and is a gold digger.
Scorpio you're passing judgment on Priscilla based on your dislike of her rather than examining facts. Priscilla accepted a modest divorce settlement from Elvis( in comparison to his assets at that time), hardly the actions of a gold digger. She has been a success in business. It's naive to imply that this success is due solely to her having been married to Elvis. I personally find her rather irritating to listen to but I don't think that this gives me the right to pass judgment on her.
I agree with you, but I also think that a big part of his demise was the fans and himself. The fans helped in his demise because all they really wanted to see was Elvis sing, so when he tried to do serious movie roles like he wanted to, they flopped. And while Elvis' humble nature was probably one of his best qualities, it might have been a reason why he never left Parker. Idk if that's the way anybody else feels, but I just wanted to put what I thought help lead to his demise.
i agree with you it was bad management and it was Elvis own depression from his mother death then Priscilla taking his daughter from him. He lost the only 2 people who really matter to him. add the vultures that hung around to get what they could from him and all the drugs that his so called personal physician gave him Just add it up mismanagement+depression + any drug you wanted being given to you at a drop of a hat what does that = A sad tradegy.and that exactly what happen in Elvis' case
I know a fan gave him a crown while on stage and even though he accepted cause they gave it to him. He made it clear to the audience he WAS NOT a king but a singer and there was only 1 King and that was God in heaven.
yes they are. It's people who idiolize there images that causes them to be blinded by the truth...KINGS are Humans and they have faults and feelings like EVERYONE else. I think Elvis summoned it up nicely with his quote" An image is one thing a man is a total different thing..it's hard to live up to an image." that is what also led to his early demise. Blindsided fans that idiolize him to the point where he couldn't be himself. Sadly, he had to be a 24 hr a day image or a mirage for the fans,
That was great!! I have never heard him sing Return To Sender in concert before. Absolutely wonderful! It's quite obvious that he was caught off guard by the request but found the lyrics came real easy to him. A very good recording. Thanks for posting!
If you think this does not sound terrible - clean your ears! I have this complete concert on cd and it is clear that that Elvis should not have been on stage. Where he should have been is in a place where they treat people with drug addiction.
Elvis was brilliant but he was only human.....not a King or a God.
oh please tell me how elvis sounds different then any other time???...your just a shallow ass nobody who thinks he can judge a somebody...ha,ha,ha....tell you what ...your not a real elvis fan [ and he would hate you if he was alive] so just put those elvis c.d,s in the rubbish and start listening to the jonas bros...your kind of music.
I have been an Elvis fan for 32 years and after listening to everything that has been released (official and unofficial) I think that I am qualified to to have an opinion. Have you heard the rest of this concert?
Despite what some obsessed Elvis fans might say - Elvis was not perfect. he made some really bad recordings, movies and did some concerts that were not worth the price of admission. On the other side of the coin, he was unbeatable when he was in top form.Which was most of the time.
Having an opinion on the darker side of his life does not mean I am not a real fan. It just means that I choose not to wear rose colored glasses.
As for the concert in question - Elvis was too sick to be on stage. His concerts were sometimes so poor that people left venues half way through his show.
Elvis deserved a few years off by 1976 but the circus had to keep rolling to keep the money coming in ,which adversely affected everything in his his life.
your right...elvis had to be on stage to pay the bill,s...it,s called BEING A MAN...which elvis was....futhermore...elvis never had a ego when it came to his output, he was there to have fun with the fan,s, which makes him a sweetheart...like i have said...if you don,t like it..THEN DONT LISTEN....go listen to the jonas bros, there perfect corporate music you would love.
You seem to be the one who thinks I don't like listening to Elvis. I have never said that. I like listening to all of Elvis' songs, even the sub-par ones. However, I don't see why I cannot have an opinion.
If more people had told Elvis "Hey man -that sucked!" maybe he would have had more reason to get his act together and reach his full potential as a musical genius, which he was, instead he doing unrehearsed songs in places like Kalamazoo. Isn't that a bit sad?
who are jonas bros?...a bunch of cocksuckers....anyway.....o,k maybe i lost my temper because i thought you were one of those pretend elvis fan,s who leave nasty comments but i would love to know what these sub par songs were?....the holywood stuff does not count as elvis called them shit himself....unrehearsed?...you ever thought elvis was tired from being on the road and he had a life out side music?..
The Hollywood stuff does count. Bad material is bad material no matter what context it is in. Although there are a lot of gems that have been overlooked from those movies years, most of the stuff should not have been recorded by the greatest performer of his generation.
My original reason for commenting was to express how very sad it was that such a great person as Elvis had gone down in every aspect of his life. We cannot change history, but Elvis potential was not realized.
yeah and like i said i was wrong to attack your OPINION but you have to understand by the 70,s elvis was a hopeless drug addict, to quote red west...HE WAS FUCKED UP....so the fact he did over a thousand concerts was unbelievable...MY POINT/ OPINION...you should be happy with what you got....right?
I am very happy with the legacy that Elvis left behind. Elvis was the first HUGE superstar and the simple fact was that he was not equipped to deal with such a drastic change in his life, and because of that he self-destructed. Anybody in his position would have.
My biggest gripe is "fans" who actually make a mockery of him by not acknowledging his shortcomings as an artist. People who think Elvis never sang a bad song or did a bad movie are in denial and do more harm than good to his legacy.
i agree with you on a alot but people loved all elvis,s stuff because it was ELVIS doing it [ thats the main reason you watch his movies] and never looked the other way on the elvis bad stuff [ i mean why did he record ...old mc donald....really sad] but if you look at the so called ROCK LEGENDS elvis is the only one that is the decent nice one...the rest are scumbags
I agree. The only reason to watch an Elvis movie is because of Elvis. He had an unbelievable charisma that transcended bad material. Maybe Elvis knew this and relied a bit too much on it...
i think you right and maybe i did not want to face it [ i think will all live in denile about are own lives somewhat] ...so i will correct myself...you are a true elvis fan...take care...much love.
That's very nice of you to say that. All I ever want for Elvis legacy is a balanced view from his fans. Making Elvis into a one dimensional character who could do no wrong does no good for him or his fans.
The true measure of how great Elvis was is the fact that we are sitting here talking about him over 30 years after he passed and still enjoying his music. And there are MILLIONS of others who do the same. I'm sure Elvis would be shaking his head and wondering - Is this for me???
nobody went to a elvis concert to hear him do perfect verison,s of his hit,s they went to be in his company for a hour...futhermore, i,m not blind to elvis,s dark side [ i have stated that elvis should have grown up and stop taking drugs because he had a little daughter to raise]...
baby boy..

If it weren't for Elvis, the Colonel couldn't have been as famous as he was. And without the Colonel, Elvis wouldn't have been as rich as he was. They needed each toher- at least for a while. I think after the 50s, Elvis should have dumped him.
elviscrzychic 2 years ago 2
We have no way of knowing what would have happened if Elvis and the Colonel had split ways after Elvis got back from the army, but when you look at those first few years after the army it was success after success for Elvis even during a rapidly changing pop culture scene and the Colonel had a lot to do with that.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
i agree that the colonel helped keep his career active during the army. and immediately set up that show with frank sinatra. but the colonel did a lot of things to hurt elvis too, tho at other times he did help elvis
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
parker had nowt to do with that. itwas still elviss call how successfull he was then. remember this was before elvis became jaded by the dog catcher.
colvis5 2 years ago
The 68 TV Special would have been a disaster had Elvis done what the Colonel wanted and sang Xmas songs. He for once stood up to him and sang what he wanted and was a huge success again. He sold out concerts in the 70s because despite being overweight and taking drugs his voice was still there and his fans still loved him. I suggest you read the book The Colonel and you would totally change your opinion of him. Elvis WAS cos of his voice and looks never be another like him.
TheLisa03 2 years ago 2
Here you are correct. The Colonel's vision was a simple Christmas Special and for once Elvis took a hand and did something risky, but that was not my point. My point was that only the Colonel could have sold NBC on the idea of producing not only a TV Special with a fading star but a movie too! (Part of the deal was the NBC eventually produced "Change of Habit".) By 1975-77 Elvis was getting almost universally bad reviews and fans were shocked but the Colonel kept bringing in the money.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
@KingCreole74 how did the colonel bring in the money all he did was set up dates and deals that took a lot out of Elvis. I hate to break your nice delusion you have goin for yourself but since we are all being so honest here If Elvis didn't perform then Tom Parker would have died the penniless illegal immigrant that he should have been, the fact are Tom Parker was a con artist that came here illegally and took advantage of Elvis' charisma like almost everyone that hung around him did.
Scorpio31us 2 years ago
"All he did was set up the dates and deals". That's all, huh? You say they took a lot out of Elvis, well here's a fact: Elvis was the one who would tell the Colonel to set up the tour dates when He (Elvis) needed more money, not the other way around. BTW, you say Tom Parker should have died a penniless "illegal immigrant", Tom Parker served in the US Army and had he gone through channels would have been granted US citizenship easily and well deservedly. God bless Tom Parker.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
The Colonel ran away from the army. He was dishonorably discharged.
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
The Colonel spent three years in the army. Where you get the idea he ran away I don't know, but if you have a verifiable source I'd love to see it.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
it's a book called" The Colonel: The Extraordinary Story of Colonel Tom Parker and Elvis Presley". by Alanna Nash
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
@KingCreole74 Also, YOU might consider who is keeping the name of Elvis alive NOW! It certainly isnt the Colonel. You might consider Elvis was nearly broke when he died thanks to the Colonel who took half his money and spent it all on his gambling. Also because of the Colonel Elvis never toured the world because the Colonel was an illegal immigrant and wouldnt let him tour because he couldnt go with him. It is his fans old and new that are now keeping Elvis; name alive, not the Colonel.
TheLisa03 2 years ago
The Colonel is dead and the Estate got rid of him in the late 70s so your point is moot. Elvis as nearly broke when he died NOT because of the Colonel but because he had no investments and spent money like there was no tomorrow. Furthermore it is a myth that the Colonel got 50% of everything, in most instances he got 25% with there being some times when yes he did get 50%. Elvis has a very simple attitude towards money: spend it and go make more.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
I will also add this myth that the Colonel kept Elvis from touring internationally is disproven by the fact that Elvis talked a good game about wanting to vacation in Europe but when push came to shove he couldn't bring himself to do so. Elvis was a creature of habit in a major way and his own worst enemy. I'd suggest YOU read Peter Guralnick's masterpiece two part bio "Last Train to Memphis" and "Careless Love: The Unmaking of Elvis Presley".
KingCreole74 2 years ago
I have read all books about Elvis I could get my hands on, over 30 years of reading and watching documentaries still leaves me with the same conclusion. I dont think Elvis was perfect, I have already said he was weak and I didnt blame the colonel for Elvis taking the drugs, that was unfortunately his own fault for whatever reason. I also dont blame Priscilla for leaving him for his downfall like many Elvis fans do. I totally understand why she left him, he should never have married.
TheLisa03 2 years ago
Well I definitely salute you for those particular conclusions.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
I have already said Elvis was weak and for whatever reason would not stand up to the colonel and take charge of his own career. Its very sad that he just spiralled out of control, and in the 70s I think he just gave up and didnt care anymore what happened to him. I was surprised though to see you are an Elvis fan because you dont sound like you have much respect for him at all. You do sound like you are a fan of Tom Parker. Each to his own. Regards.
TheLisa03 2 years ago
That's a wee bit harsh. I don't see how stating facts about Elvis means I am showing him disrespect.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
The Colonel basically persuaded Elvis not to go to Europe and any other place except the 50 states. I think this is because he was scared he'd find another manager. And Colonel had a pretty sweet deal getting half of everything Elvis got.
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
Both these points are myths. Elvis was a very conservative type of guy. He talked alot about going to Europe and Japan, but in the end he simply didn't want to do it. He didn't even follow through with plans to go to Europe on vacation with Priscilla and Joe and Joanie Esposito instead choosing to go to the Bahamas. As for the 50/50 split between the Colonel that only began in the mid 70s and only related to merchandising and concert tours, not records or any possible future films.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
The Col. persuaded him not to vacation there bc he said if you hadn't toured there, the ppl would be mad that you haven't toured there yet you vacation there. So Elvis agreed and decided not to go.
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
I have heard that interpretation of events, however, if you were to ask Joe Esposito he'd tell you that Elvis was relieved to have an excuse not to go.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
have you asked joe that?
elviscrzychic 2 years ago
lol Sharp. Well I can only tell you what I've heard him say in some documentaries/interviews and what has been reported in print.
KingCreole74 2 years ago
This was far from a great concert but considering this song was impromptu as a fan request it is an excellent effort
rickeap 2 years ago
elvis has been criticized for forgetting the words on stage. the thing was he remembered the words to his early songs and not his current songs.that type of short term memory loss usually happens due to TOO MUCH ANXIETY which elvis had alot of on 77 cstanchik
CSTANCHIK 2 years ago 19
@CSTANCHIK Still, it's puzzling that he nailed the lyrical tongue-twister "T-R-O-U-B-L-E" night after night with no problems. When he was inspired, he was INSPIRED.

Elvis sounding in good form. Have to smile at the way Charlie Hodge tries to keep up with "E" so he can dish out the scarfs. From 1977 late on his career, and 15 years since the original back in`62.
TheWhitehall 2 years ago
this was actually sung in 1976 in either tahoe or at roanoke virginia that same year . the footage is from 77 though
mofoca22 2 years ago
Thanks for that info. After "Sender" the big number one chart toppers ceased for awhile, especially in the USA. But, as we know "E" was always on the scene.
TheWhitehall 2 years ago
yeah i think he had one or two more after that before in the ghetto and suspicious minds. they were crying in the chapel and good luck charm. good luck charm proved to be bad luck because it didnt keep up with the changing rock music of the early 60's and the british invasion, and it stuck with the formula they used in the movies. its a shame he lost a whole decade between the army and hollywood. god only know how it all wouldve turned out. his records would be unreachable.
mofoca22 2 years ago
Right. And the worse thing was is that Elvis` voice was probably at its absolute best during those "lean" years. He could sing anything. But for several years top quality songs did not come his way and as you say the "beat" scene had changed and progressed.Songs like "Do The Clam" etc did not stand a chance.
TheWhitehall 2 years ago
rca, parker, and hollywood ruined what could have been for elvis in the 60's. in the 70's it was parker and rca. everything with rca and parker was about money. there are lots of songs elvis wanted to sing and release on record that they wouldnt let him do because of the royalties issue. elvis said just pay the guys but parker and rca said no. so the only time youd hear elvis sing the songs he wanted to do was in concert or when he was home a sad freaken shame
mofoca22 2 years ago
Parker also screwed up some tempting and challenging film rolls. "Thunder Road" with Robert Mitchum and "A Star is Born" with Streisand. Makes you wanna weep....Elvis could and should have achieved so much more.

colvis5 2 years ago
I'm not a huge fan of Priscilla but I think you are being a little harsh on her. Neither Priscilla or Lisa-Marie have any interest in Elvis's estate. Lisa-Marie sold all rights to Elvis's estate to an American business man a couple of years ago. The preservation of Elvis's image does not benefit Priscilla financially.
otkrsupporter 2 years ago
first ive heard that pricilla and lisa sold graceland but even if she has she owned it when she made the presleys.
colvis5 2 years ago
They didn't sell Graceland just the tourist stuff is handled by EPE. Lisa Marie still owns and visits Graceland several times through out the year.
Scorpio31us 2 years ago
@otkrsupporter The Presley family still owns Graceland. She sold most of her interest in the business portion of the estate. Trust me that deal is full of clauses so Lisa Marie doesn't get screwed.
moejr1974 2 years ago
Oh please if it wasn't for the fact that she was once married to Elvis and had his child she would be the nobody that she deserves to be. She benefits everytime there is anything that goes on with Elvis involvement in it. Like the annual celebrations she throws at Graceland to rememorial Elvis. Everytime she does a conference or an interview she is benefitted financially for it.What do you believe she does all this publicity for FREE? Not likely. Priscilla was and is a gold digger.
Scorpio31us 2 years ago
Scorpio you're passing judgment on Priscilla based on your dislike of her rather than examining facts. Priscilla accepted a modest divorce settlement from Elvis( in comparison to his assets at that time), hardly the actions of a gold digger. She has been a success in business. It's naive to imply that this success is due solely to her having been married to Elvis. I personally find her rather irritating to listen to but I don't think that this gives me the right to pass judgment on her.

chermaster85 2 years ago
you make a lot of sense. ithink pretty much the same. but i think a large part of his demise was down to bad management from parker
colvis5 2 years ago
I agree with you, but I also think that a big part of his demise was the fans and himself. The fans helped in his demise because all they really wanted to see was Elvis sing, so when he tried to do serious movie roles like he wanted to, they flopped. And while Elvis' humble nature was probably one of his best qualities, it might have been a reason why he never left Parker. Idk if that's the way anybody else feels, but I just wanted to put what I thought help lead to his demise.
Musicfan1020 2 years ago
i agree with you it was bad management and it was Elvis own depression from his mother death then Priscilla taking his daughter from him. He lost the only 2 people who really matter to him. add the vultures that hung around to get what they could from him and all the drugs that his so called personal physician gave him Just add it up mismanagement+depression + any drug you wanted being given to you at a drop of a hat what does that = A sad tradegy.and that exactly what happen in Elvis' case

tommyboytt26 2 years ago
Elvis was not a "King". He himself hated that title.
Bolgi 2 years ago
I know a fan gave him a crown while on stage and even though he accepted cause they gave it to him. He made it clear to the audience he WAS NOT a king but a singer and there was only 1 King and that was God in heaven.
Scorpio31us 2 years ago
tommyboytt26...bolgi is right....elvis was a humble guy.
kittenready 2 years ago
yes they are.

Great footage, but Elvis sounds terrible. The footage is from 1977 and the audio is from August 1st,1976.
Bolgi 3 years ago
sounds terrible???....are you joking?.....he was court of guard and sang it on the fly...thats real talent.
kittenready 2 years ago 2
If you think this does not sound terrible - clean your ears! I have this complete concert on cd and it is clear that that Elvis should not have been on stage. Where he should have been is in a place where they treat people with drug addiction.
Elvis was brilliant but he was only human.....not a King or a God.
Bolgi 2 years ago
oh please tell me how elvis sounds different then any other time???...your just a shallow ass nobody who thinks he can judge a somebody...ha,ha,ha....tell you what ...your not a real elvis fan [ and he would hate you if he was alive] so just put those elvis c.d,s in the rubbish and start listening to the jonas bros...your kind of music.
kittenready 2 years ago
I have been an Elvis fan for 32 years and after listening to everything that has been released (official and unofficial) I think that I am qualified to to have an opinion. Have you heard the rest of this concert?
Despite what some obsessed Elvis fans might say - Elvis was not perfect. he made some really bad recordings, movies and did some concerts that were not worth the price of admission. On the other side of the coin, he was unbeatable when he was in top form.Which was most of the time.
Bolgi 2 years ago
Having an opinion on the darker side of his life does not mean I am not a real fan. It just means that I choose not to wear rose colored glasses.
As for the concert in question - Elvis was too sick to be on stage. His concerts were sometimes so poor that people left venues half way through his show.
Elvis deserved a few years off by 1976 but the circus had to keep rolling to keep the money coming in ,which adversely affected everything in his his life.
Bolgi 2 years ago
your right...elvis had to be on stage to pay the bill,s...it,s called BEING A MAN...which elvis was....futhermore...elvis never had a ego when it came to his output, he was there to have fun with the fan,s, which makes him a sweetheart...like i have said...if you don,t like it..THEN DONT LISTEN....go listen to the jonas bros, there perfect corporate music you would love.
kittenready 2 years ago
You seem to be the one who thinks I don't like listening to Elvis. I have never said that. I like listening to all of Elvis' songs, even the sub-par ones. However, I don't see why I cannot have an opinion.
If more people had told Elvis "Hey man -that sucked!" maybe he would have had more reason to get his act together and reach his full potential as a musical genius, which he was, instead he doing unrehearsed songs in places like Kalamazoo. Isn't that a bit sad?
Who are the "Jonas Bros" anyway?
Bolgi 2 years ago
who are jonas bros?...a bunch of cocksuckers....anyway.....o,k maybe i lost my temper because i thought you were one of those pretend elvis fan,s who leave nasty comments but i would love to know what these sub par songs were?....the holywood stuff does not count as elvis called them shit himself....unrehearsed?...you ever thought elvis was tired from being on the road and he had a life out side music?..
kittenready 2 years ago
The Hollywood stuff does count. Bad material is bad material no matter what context it is in. Although there are a lot of gems that have been overlooked from those movies years, most of the stuff should not have been recorded by the greatest performer of his generation.
My original reason for commenting was to express how very sad it was that such a great person as Elvis had gone down in every aspect of his life. We cannot change history, but Elvis potential was not realized.
Bolgi 2 years ago
yeah and like i said i was wrong to attack your OPINION but you have to understand by the 70,s elvis was a hopeless drug addict, to quote red west...HE WAS FUCKED UP....so the fact he did over a thousand concerts was unbelievable...MY POINT/ OPINION...you should be happy with what you got....right?
kittenready 2 years ago
I am very happy with the legacy that Elvis left behind. Elvis was the first HUGE superstar and the simple fact was that he was not equipped to deal with such a drastic change in his life, and because of that he self-destructed. Anybody in his position would have.
My biggest gripe is "fans" who actually make a mockery of him by not acknowledging his shortcomings as an artist. People who think Elvis never sang a bad song or did a bad movie are in denial and do more harm than good to his legacy.
Bolgi 2 years ago
i agree with you on a alot but people loved all elvis,s stuff because it was ELVIS doing it [ thats the main reason you watch his movies] and never looked the other way on the elvis bad stuff [ i mean why did he record ...old mc donald....really sad] but if you look at the so called ROCK LEGENDS elvis is the only one that is the decent nice one...the rest are scumbags
kittenready 2 years ago
I agree. The only reason to watch an Elvis movie is because of Elvis. He had an unbelievable charisma that transcended bad material. Maybe Elvis knew this and relied a bit too much on it...
Bolgi 2 years ago
i think you right and maybe i did not want to face it [ i think will all live in denile about are own lives somewhat] ...so i will correct myself...you are a true elvis fan...take care...much love.
kittenready 2 years ago
That's very nice of you to say that. All I ever want for Elvis legacy is a balanced view from his fans. Making Elvis into a one dimensional character who could do no wrong does no good for him or his fans.
The true measure of how great Elvis was is the fact that we are sitting here talking about him over 30 years after he passed and still enjoying his music. And there are MILLIONS of others who do the same. I'm sure Elvis would be shaking his head and wondering - Is this for me???
Take care.
Bolgi 2 years ago
nobody went to a elvis concert to hear him do perfect verison,s of his hit,s they went to be in his company for a hour...futhermore, i,m not blind to elvis,s dark side [ i have stated that elvis should have grown up and stop taking drugs because he had a little daughter to raise]...
