Placement is beginning in Des Moines, Iowa, on December 18th. It will be located in the Western Gateway Park for 10 months and then will loaned to Grand Rapids, Michigan for 4 months. Being a Des Moines resident, I can't wait to see this beautiful sculpture.
Lucky you, Hawk. I have to confess I was hoping it would stay in Antibes. It served as a kind of Colossus of Rhodes, lit up at night: this ancient port, which dates back to the Roman and Greek empires, really does need a few focal points, what with so much having been demolished in recent years.
I'd be interested to know how Nomade was constructed. I wonder what JaumeP used to support it so as to end up with the desired shape
This was taken on the evening of Friday July 20th on the refurbished ramparts at Antibes Old Port.
The Mayor of Antibes had earlier "unveiled" this magnificent work of art. Its creator, Jaume Plensa from Spain, was present. Later, walking around, he spotted my wife Jane's invitation card and autographed it ! Jane is Secretary of our local Antiboulenc society.
The camera swings round in the shot, giving a brief glimpse of the 16th century Fort Carré and luxury yachts in Port Vauban.
Great thanks
