No wonder so many 'customers' get hurt and even die on their bikes. This test has NOTHING to do with the very harsh realities they will face on the roads out there.
In AZ when you take the MSF course AND pass, they give you a slip of paper to take to the DMV and you get your endorsement right away, but you still don't know how to ride and will probably go down within 6 mos of riding. Good luck tho and it is all worth it... cycles are fun.
In colorado, you can put your foot down but only so many times. Each time counts as points. If you collect so many points, you fail the test. It should be noted that I, of course, never put my foot down but I did get a few points for stopping a bit too long but that's only because I kept stopping what I felt was too short during practice. Oh well... I passed ;)
I'm not trying to sharp shoot people but a sports bike should most definitely be able to negotiate this turn and more if not then you should not be on a sports bike
@MrR1D3R Have you ever compared something like a harley to a sportsbike? I played around on the course behind our dmv when I was bored, and I found that at low speeds the HD turns sharper... but yeah the test isnt too hard

There seems to be two problems with this version of a motorcycle test, 1, I`d doubt a sport`s bike would turn in that circle, 2, It`s better to drop the machine rather than put your foot down ? Such waffle is a fraud, There`s no big deal with putting you foot down at crawling speeds, What do they think your be doing filtering through slow traffic and stopped at junctions
just passed this test today by practicing one hour for a day for a week at my local DMV,took the test on my 250cc scooter, made it a lot easier than some bigger motorcycle.
I'm very confused so I have to buy my own scooter to start the test an what if I get stopped by a cop for not having a license since I must ride there
@sammylife12 A lot of the colleges (at least where I live) allow you to rent 250ccs for the test. Or get a truck. Or get a friend who has a proper license to ride it there for you.
@sammylife12 You're supposed to have your L before you do your road test, in which case anyone with a full license must be with you at all times. So I'm sure whoever you are out learning to ride with can escort you to the test.
@sammylife12 In California you can put your bike on a trailer to get it to the D.M.V. or get a motorcycle permit by passing the written test or have a licensed rider ride your bike to the D.M.V. or take the M.S.F. class. Easy.
@TyreezyTyrak Permit? Didn't know their was such a thing. I took the class and passed first time with flying colors. Permit works with an experienced person with you, such as a car. How does a motorcycle permit work?
@sammylife12 You pass a written test first and they give you a driving permit which you have to hold for 30 days. You can ride on two wheels (above 49cc) during the day, w/o passengers, wearing gear, and until the sunset.
Theres nothing wrong with it but the test is about evaluating skills, and it always helps to have more skills on a bike than just barely enough skill. The slow circle is basically a u-turn test. If you need to put your foot down then whats next? You have to draw the line somewhere. Consider this: one of the most fatal riding flaws is fixating vision on where you do NOT want to go, because of panic. How can you test for that? So not putting a foot down is just a small line in the sand. To test.

When it comes to slow cornering, it helps to look through through the turn. Intructors stress this and it's best to apply it

Bottom heavy bikes are better for this test like the harley shown
I would practice this test after hours and i had no problem.as soon as i was being watched and tested i would fuck up...lol

In my country, if you start scooter and drive it little bit, make few turns, you can get the motorcycle driving licence.

@sammylife12 passing the driver course allows you to carry a passenger and drive at night.
before that you must take a driver course which when passed will allow you to drive during the day.

@sammylife12 you can ride there with your permit.

@brocklesner91 If you have put your foot down then you haven't got full control over the bike.
It sounds daft but its true.
