  • The music and video is magnificent!

  • It does not make any difference to me, but was Alfred Newman Jewish? So many of the grand Hollywood compsers were and I was just wondering..

  • @ZeekWolfe1

Yes. Unlike the other greats, he was born in the USA. Ironically, 'American sounding' film music was largely written by composers born abroad.

  • There are many great things about this underrated classic. Number one I think is the soundtrack.

  • Jesus of Nazareth is the name of the selection. I have added the title as an annotation.

  • This music is not from Jesus of Nazareth. It is from The Greatest Story Ever Told, from the book of the same name by Fulton Oursler.

  • Von Sydow had a fatherly figure of Christ in this movie just like HB Warner did in his portrayal of Christ...

  • This is such a beautiful soundtrack! Jesus as our saviour!

  • my church used this song in our Easter play

  • @crazyjosiah

I think Newman would have been delighted.

  • i've got goosebumps all over. tears in my eyes.

  • @ldaccardi Just another example of the inspiring and purifying power of music. Peace.

  • Alfred Newman, my God, what a composer. I remember as a 5th grade student buying my first album, the soundtrack from "The Robe."

  • the only modern film composer left to write film music that you remember is john williams once he is gone thats it i cannot think of another composer who will follow him

i did not not know that newman was inspired by

Barber's Adagio for Strings but it makes sense because if anybody can make those violins cry its alfred newman ,and thats what makes him my favourite composer

and this is one of my favourite pieces of music of his thanks for putting it on you tube

  • looking at this video, makes me think how soon his coming is.Yeshua Messiah(Jesus), will come as he left, in the clouds, to take those-(snatched away instantly) as described in the Greek. We call it the ( rapture) of followers, just before the worst time that befall the earth. BIBLE quotes.

  • im related to him but never met him sadly. he rox

  • jesus or alfred newman?

  • both kind of....alfreds my grandparent and im jewish......well i have jewish blood so ya...lol

  • Newman was - by his own admission, I think - heavily inspired by Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings.

  • Comercialism... Where in Airport 1970 is included one of Newman´s most inspired compositions, Love Theme? Hidden in a poor scene of the film... Nevertheless, the intro tries to reflect action, but is not the best of the score...

  • very impressive Music

  • Newman was one of the greats.

  • The soundtrack box set came with a book [ like ben hur and mutiny on the bounty ] .

  • Great film scores like this are gone forever. At some distant time people in museums will touch a button to hear an excerpt, rather like we today use portable electronic devices to help understand sculpture or painting. Modern film music is destined for the ashcan of history.

  • No question about it. But then, the films of today don't exactly inspire any composer to come up with anything save noise.

  • I agree. In many cases modern film scores are mediocre background music. Some composers do this intentionally, so as not to distract from the dialogue, which is justifiable from that perspective. The scores I really do not care for consist of slapped on pop hit tunes which relate only tangentially through song lyrics (which are then sold on CD as a film score); and scores written by composers who seem totally detached from the action trying some how to ride above it all and rain their blessings.
