  • Beautiful, wonderful rendition, well-prepared! :)

Magistral!!!

  • 4 + 4 =the stupid people who disliked it

  • precisione,stile,tecnica,dinamica....tutto perfetto!!!

  • fabuloso !

  • muy buena de verdad... espero tocarla asi..

  • Kemal Gekic is my hero, especially after hearing the William Tell Overture. What a monsterous technique, and amazing musicality!

  • wow great finger independence, i would get cramp quick

  • muy buena....! me gustó.

  • x mariscass:

  • He even resembles liszt a little. Great interpretation.

  • @UriahHeepful

I think he intentionally did his hair that way. Otherwise he doesn't resemble Liszt in the slightest.

  • Lol - in your opinion! I don't think you should claim a monopoly on what Liszt looked like.

Obviously you haven't seen the Franz Lehmann portrait. In any case to admit that Gekic's hair resembles liszt but then to say he shares no resemblance is contradictory!

From an ethnographic point of view many Hungarians (from where Liszt hailed) left their homeland in the 20's and settled in Croatia (where Gekic was born).

  • @UriahHeepful

Wow, pretty vehement aren't we? I said "otherwise".

Have you seen the dagguerotype? Their facial features aren't similar at all.

  • @demosj what are you ppli talking about? This guy (who I love as a pianist) IS HIGHLANDER! XD

Seriouslym if you cant see the resemblance you're not looking carefully XD

  • this guy is baaad!!

  • How so?

  • badass***

  • why? because he is a TURK !!!!!!!!

  • TURK???? Are you an idiot or your feet stink? I think both!

  • NOIOSO???

  • He plays great, sadly the video is a little out of sync.

  • to be honest great technique nd stuff but seriously look at his wrists at some moments! i mean that was like the first things most teachers stress on. at the beginning when u start leaning to just learn to play a few easy song's its always WRISTS UP! further nice but i'm not that big of a fan of him.

  • have u ever seen the partiture of that song?

i have it, it's not easy man, also for a teacher, if u want to see a good video see also les grandes etudes paganini kemal gekic, and then u'll have to repeat something about him

  • Hand positions are no more than a means to an end, the end goal bein the sounds you can produce from the piano

  • I passed your comments to him. He told me you are right! He will try harder to keep his wrists UP! he was already trying it for around 45 years,,, Now he is facing only two choices - either to have lessons with you or to quit piano playing....would you please help ? SOS

  • I also spoke to Horowitz and Cortot...they told me they have exactly the same problem! Imagine...it is an epidemic of disobedient wrists...please p0intd3xt, help them all with your wisdom and experience

  • p0intd3xt, imagine this! The most terrible thing....I read about Liszt (who usually played with his wrists up!) that he used to lay the palm of his hands on the wood BELOW the keyboard when playing some particular legato passages. Now, he is beyond your help as he is really well dead...what shall we do? it is so tragic. You were born TOO late to help him...

  • OK, p0intd3xt, maybe the mistake is mine. Now I read your post REALLY carefully and realized that you wrote " at the beginning when u start lea(r)ning to just learn to play a few easy song's(love your English, btw)its always WRISTS UP!). So, the solution is simple.Easy pieces have to be played WRISTS UP and difficult ones WRISTS DOWN. Eureka! You are such an incomparable genius hahahahahahahahaha

  • and how many people with perfect wrists and hand position can play like this guy?! Don't be jelous, be generous on compliments when they are due!

    K.G. IS FANTASTIC!

  • Bravo Maestro!

    Cestitamo !!!

  • Magic hands. Hard to believe !!!!!

  • grande turco! rispetto

  • Whose transcription is this?

  • judging by the 'S' id guess liszt?

  • It is by Liszt. It's one of his Rossini-Liszt Soiree Musicales.

  • Interesting fingering! Whatever works :)

  • pure 100% skills... very talented

  • I've seen him play numerous times. He is absolutely superb. Ever heard him play The William Tell Overature (most times 2 pianists play)?

  • tremendo te admiro

  • AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Look at his fingers!!! Brilliant!!

    WOW!!

  • Look at his fingers!!! Brilliant!!

    WOW!!

  • stupenda esecuzione

I like this song too. Have you ever seen the movie named "Legend of 1900" where the chief character plays Tarantella Napoletana? It's very fantastic!!

  • sei un genio

  • brilliant!,

i've listened this piece by Leslie Howard and in this video only.

  • What's the point??? Listen to the music and enjoy this brilliant musician....

  • While these videos of Kemal are quite good, he is much more flamboyant for the camera than in real life (at least, for the three chances I've had to hear him live). This recording isn't bad, but I like his performance on the Rossini Transcriptions CD better (Liszt Piano Music Vol 7 from Naxos). If you get the chance to hear him in person, GO!!!

  • Insane

  • wow echt gut !!!

  • süper doğrusu

  • i had the honor, as a memeber of the fiu orchestra to play tchaikowsky piano concerto no. 1 with this phenomenal powerhouse of a piano player.. gekic is a beast!!

  • omg!! you played with him!!

  • yup same here

  • Look at his hands, he has a very strange, unique technique. As Pogorelich does, but in a different way.

How cool would it be to study with a guy like this! I'm jealous of my friends best friend, who does.

  • That is EXACTLY what I was thinking! He plays with his wrists low, but his fingers do a LOT of work. He's really fun to watch play.

  • grande! bellissima esecuzione

  • woooooooooooooooooooooooooow... bellissima!!!

  • He is artist in residence at my college XD

  • FIU? I was going to go there because of him... But I didn't want to go to school in SE florida been there my whole life, wanted to get out, haha

  • Postovanje maestro !

    Legendarni pianista !

  • la perfezione.... esiste.

    Forza napoli.

  • Yeah, he's a very nice pianist. I've seen pianist like James Levine playing this song when he accompanied the late Pavarotti singing it. But I think, this guy here is playing it more faster, but maybe Levine can also do that, but considering that he accompanied sum1, he cant play too fast.

  • This is a REAL pianist. Thank God for him.

  • Gekic, the prodigious Romantic virtuoso who still keeps grow as a musician like Earl Wild does, seems to born play Liszt. He easily kicks off many overrated, market-forced star pianists.

  • Nice hair. :D

  • I'm agree with Neocomposer. I would like you (or somenody else) post more videos of Gekic's interpretations. He is a great pianist!!!!!!

  • Turkos(=barbaros) tocando Musica europeana.

senor KEMAL GEKI Porque no tocas y 'Kemal Ataturk' tambien?

  • Yugoslavian actually

  • actually i met with him and he is croatian trust me:)

  • Yeah, i know him too, and he was born in Split, Yugoslavia.

  • I am armenian, but in this case you unfair. Kemal is really a great piansist

  • The best performance of this piece on record!!!!!!!!!!!

  • He amazes me every single time. I wished someone would post more videos about him.

  • MAGISTRALE!!!

    BRAVISSIMO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And those of you who nitpicked about his hands or his style ask yourselves: Can I do 1% of what he does? No? Then shut up, listen and learn.

  • delicate and forceful...

Interpretazione mediocre

  • Topolinik, we all know YOU can do so much better...

Your comment shows you don't even know the piece. A recommendation: study a bit before you criticize. Every good singer (Bartoli and others)slows down in those places you mentioned...

  • i would leave this particular case out of dispute, because it is a matter of taste. But if you find Pollini's and Michelangeli's performance of works by Chopin, Schumann or Liszt beautiful, it is obvious that your taste has a long way to go from this rudimentary level. I would recommend that you listen

some real pianists like Rachmaninoff, Hoffman, Friedman,Cortot and Horowitz, that might help you judge things better...

  • Yes, I mostly agree your opinion. (Judging from live-performances issued from various labels, Michelangeli seemes not so a dry pianist...). Hoffmann, yes! Cortot, yes!!Friedman, yes!!! Horowitz, yes, yes, yes!!

The Genius shows interets on many of such pianists whom you commented on.

At least ,I can surely say the only thing.

Your taste is perfect and sound !!

You seem a well-experienced and so careful music-listener.

  • Don't forget Richter!

  • in risposta a "Topolinik"...

  • i like this alot better than the paganini etudes he does. he played this wonderfully.

  • ..O and yes, I love you're hair!

  • Kemal, You're the Liszt of our time!!

  • I don't see what you people don't get. This recording is amazing. There are no technical flaws in his playing. It doesn't matter if he exaggerates dynamics or whatever, its his musical interpretation, if you actually had any experience in music, you would see that all musical interpretations are different.

  • Yes, and everybody is free not to like someones interpretation

  • okok the guy who said that hi prefers the original is totaly right b cuz this is another tarantella napoletena the real one is another one totally diferent download it put tarantella napoletana in ares and search for the one which says mob hits and you will see

  • so easy to put anyone down, especially when they can play as well as this guy...be in his shoes, fucking morons, and put yourself out there...don't be all talk, do soemthing about it...dickheads or say this shit you say here to his face...i'm waiting for this one "oo i played this piece already"... and you want a fucking medal bitch? or you gonna prove that shit?

  • wow very good.

  • lol...he just exaggerates the dynamics, and adds random accents and rythym's here and there...doin't see anything that amazing here

  • he follows the score with great precision- no adding accents or rhythms whatsoever! Liszt was often accused of the same thing, but in the end, it is music that counts....and the music here is great!..lol

  • bah...regardless, still prefer the original

  • THIS is the original, you stubborn one! unless you mean the original song for voice and piano? But then Liszt is one to be blamed, not the performer

  • the performer should be blamed for choosing to play it :)

  • Probably you would like to be a member of a panel that decides what may and what may not be performed worldwide..some kind of Musical Inquisition-censorship? This is the mentality of a Taliban or an Ayatollah. Why don't you move to Iran? That is the place!!!

  • lol, somebody's being a crazy american here...i'm a member of a panel who is allowed to have an opinion, and as such, i am exercising my opinion at this very moment, i don't like the way he plays it, and i don't like what he's playing. tada!

  • Oh jesus, have another bong, billy. This is music.

  • what an amazing legato this man has....nothing metallic about his touch at all, such as can happen with mischa dichter or vladimir horowitz

  • this is an awsome peice, he plays it very well,

i dotn see whats so amazing about hsi hands, he is just sitting very low and not fuly curcing his fingers

  • yes very unique hands. his hand position is so amazing to watch.

  • WOAH><

  • very unique hands! His technique reminds me of Gould for some reason. the tone is excellent

  • what a brilliant sound! I just love it!

  • wish he was my teacher

  • Thank you for your positive feedback. The KEMAL GEKIC SOCIETY holds lessons given by Maestro GEKIC in public. If you can catch such opportunities,Maestro shall be your teacher. It is possible.
