Yes they knew. But the Funk Brothers did not get any credit or any reconition for any of the Motown hits until many years after. By then most of them sadly passed away. You should watch a film/documentary about these GREAT and TALENTED MUSICANS called Standing in the Shadow of Motown. This DVD came out 4 years ago.
