  • winstons123 is right--this song does not have to go that fast. There's barely any time for this guy's voice to resonate AT ALL. When you're moving that fast, all you can demonstrate is that your voice is agile, but you cannot demonstrate better than average tone. If he has a beautiful voice, you'd never know it from this rendition. Just that he's an athlete... which is NOT all there is.

  • He is superb, but no Siepi

  • this aria is not a race.

  • @WINSTONS123 o yes it is...

  • @WINSTONS123 Anno 2011 it is......Party Party Party

  • A brilliant version, I love it. This is my favourite aria, ever.

  • 2 seconds faster than Losonczy on he Klemperer recording - Simon, you ROCK.

  • He is wonderful

  • yes i got the most thumbs up!

  • adorable!!!

  • this is one of the best performances i've heard from him.

  • why is he jerking around so much. not very comfortable for him it seems...

  • Almost as fast as the Harnoncourt version (i.e. the Zürich one), isn`t it ?

  • im pretty sure its faster

  • I ask one question. If one is to be heard in a grand opera house one has to practice as they would perform, right?? Well u practice that loud in your apartment or even in your back yard and see how your neighbors react. Personally I have had four cops show up to my house because I was practicing late one night. and I'm not as loud as most opera singers.

  • Keenlyside is marvelous. His interpretation, here, sings the fastest version of this aria I have ever heard. Ramey and Furlanetto can't quite keep pace. He is setting the bar high.

  • @Urineculture Bryn Terfel does it faster, but this is an awesome performance

  • The Broadway version in both the conductor and the singer!

  • The best interpreter of this aria I ever heard was Ezio Pinza. He seemed to sing it on one breath and have enough left over at the end to laugh dirtily. It's on an RCA Victor LP of Mozart and Verdi arias. Worth looking up.

  • me ha puesto la piel de gallina,,madre mia que respiracion!!!! tremenda voz..

  • He's very good. Veeery few British singers are this good!

  • this guy is vital, intense, commited, burning inside, and has a damm fine voice.

  • @ejb61 well he is a geordie and with thomas allan and owen brannigon. so there are 3 famous geordie opera singers and there's also 1 famous rock singer Brian Johnson current front man for AC/DC.

  • onegin65 you definitely find the best videos of anything opera

  • PS

If you are a Ramey fan, perhaps you schould also start comparing two basses and listen to Cesare Siepi as Don Giovanny; you might learn something as well, but I sincerely hope never to read another coment by you. This forum here is not a cloaca for frustrated singers without a job. And perhaps leaving the booz would better help than wrighting here!

  • This is a great Bariton!

Who ist that jerk who can't stop insulting here?

Probably someone who never had the guts or Talents to put his as on a stage of any kind. Why don't you just shut up!

If you do not like someone do not see or listen, but please, keep your minor-brains-coments to your miserable self.

  • Puts old blue eyes in his place.

  • Ramey is a good Don Giovanni, but for me Keenlyside is better... a great singer.

  • Keenlyside you are the man!

  • Not very good. There are basic articulation and voice control problems here, (admittedly an ever present challenge with this aria).

  • translation: Simon Steelysides can't handle Don Giovanni.

That is left for American Bass, from Colby , Kansas: Samuel Ramey!

  • dtpac: On the main point, I agree. In clear contrast to this singer, Samuel Ramey is much loved in that role.

On the side: Why do we need to translate, (in fact, reduce) sentences to the most basic, elementary level, when it involves Americans? ☺

  • speed was the problem for him...slow it down half way, and he might've sounded a bit better...of course its supposed to be fast so...

  • No matter, I love this version.

  • He must dream at night about being Sam Ramey...

  • Sam Ramey must dream about destroying the incarnation of Beauty and Sexiness that Simon is! Um, wait... that's another opera. :D

Seriously, what a perfect Don! He's so filled with vitality, and his voice is sex.

  • To each their own, Sieglinde. After you dry your crotch and clean the wax from your ear canals, you'll find that Sam Ramey is THE Don. Simon Cowell here just made the bottom three.

  • Nobody said he isn't great. Apparently you don't know WHICH opera I meant where Simon and Sam might have met in this situation. Besides, it isn't a wise thing to say bad things about Simon amongst his fans. PS. learn to behave, bastard.

  • I would learn how to behave among Simple Simon's fans, but you're the only one here. Have you read the comments from all of Defeated Simon's "fans?". Bitch.

  • hope you read my comment, you tosser

  • your boyfriend sucks as a singer. viva Ramey! hell, viva my labrador for all the noise simon cowellyside makes. viva Ramey! i'll bet simon tosses your salad, miss used condom! viva Ramey!

  • he just has that look while he's shouting, and after he's done, like he's thinking "damn! i fucked it up!"

  • simon cowellysides

  • what is the point of such vulgar comments? is it the case of "bocca amara sputa fiele"?

  • it is the case of "this guy destroys mozart." in your lingo, "simon bocca fulla crappo fortissimo." THREE POINTS!

  • Your comments truly exude class and style. Remember that vulgarity and cheapness never lead anywhere. Music is about beauty and open-mindedness. Reflect and concentrate on something positive. All the best.

  • refer back to "this guy destroys Mozart." Ramey honors Mozart. Beauty? The guy is all but screaming out the song, rather than singing it. Open-mindedness? Oh jeebers! Another obamanaut!

  • Unfortunately all you are capable of is insulting. No arguments whatsoever. As I said, all the best, dear.

  • Samuel Ramey IS a better Don...sorry...

  • Выглядит плохо,поет здорово.

  • omg so bad

  • absolutely! this aria reveals the men from the boys. this is a boy.

  • I like this song, but have some comments about the singer. I have to say the strain was obvious. He was tense and this song was obviously too much for him. He isn't bad, but this song is clearly too much for him. Just my opinion of course. I know I am probably going to get slammed for it.

  • No slam from me. Like I said previously, this aria separates the men from the boys. And this gentleman clearly is in over his head.

  • I don't see how such a famous conductor can choose this guy to sing this song to be quite honest. I just don't understand. I mean he probably isn't bad he is just not prepared for this song.

  • I have sung this song once or twice after having a little too much vino. Bet I sounded pretty close to this guy.

  • Really though, you could literally see him twitching.

  • If you ever came anywhere close to sounding as good as Simon Keenlyside then people might listen to you and not just think your a useless hack that can only judge singers far superior to yourself.

  • if I ever sounded like simon cowellysides I would have gone into boxing. And I would whup your gay face with simon's pink panties.

  • in fact I am not sure that with some training i really couldn't sound better than simon. my labrador is in training right now. i'll post a video response and then you can decide which of the two animals is better. assface.

  • Tell me then why this man was paid to do a full concert in this video and others from the same concert?? Jealous much??? Be honest now.

  • Bravo!

  • I just love him. He has a beautiful voice. I meet him in the U-Bahn Station this week and he was suuuper nice. Wondeful!

  • Simon Keenlyside is fantastic!!

  • Ehahaha! Frickin' awesome!

  • I have heard him Bodas, zauberflote, don g. and think Simon is really bad.

  • Oh, you gotta love that cackling.

  • hehe yeah, that's the best part =P

  • One of the best Oh yeah!

  • This is one of the worse "Mozart's Presto aria" from Don Giovanni that I ever hear....

  • Snob

  • why do you call me snob for?

  • Because you're being overly judgmental. This is a very very difficult song, and he performed it very well. It's unfair of you to say that it's one of "the worse" that you've heard.

  • Let me tell you something Larsson,

He makes mistakes in the pronunciation, sings the wrongs lyrics, he looks like he can not move is right part of his body, his breathing is all over the place, he sings flat on the high Eb. I know this "song" (Aria) very well and it is not that difficult, demanding "yes",difficult "not" So that is why I think this is one of the worse, specialy after what this guy gets pay for doing that. I am happy to talk about opera with you but please dont call me snob.

  • Whatever, dude. His breathing was fine, he was just letting some character into it. His pitch was fine, line was fine. His mouth was a little tense, I'll admit, but that's part of his technique. As for messing up lyrics? He's human. Humans forget things.

Though you're right about his body, he was acting a little strangely.

  • LAST WORD! I WIN!

  • So fucking brilliant.

  • He does an error it's : chi la folia farai ballar, chi l'alemanna farai ballar, not the opposite

  • They play this VERY FAST. It should be slower

  • It's always a particularily fast aria, if it can be called an aria at this length. It's a test of a tenor to sing at this speed and is great for it. However i am accustomed to this aria being closer to two minutes than one minute, either way no sense nit picking.

  • He's a baritone.. and it's a baritone aria.

  • Its actually a basso-cantate or basso role, although baritones can sing the role as well. Provided that they have a rich middle and lower range.

  • meh bass, bass-baritone... s'all good:) simon keenlyside can basically do anything .

  • I agree, but you have to take venue into consideration. Even the best voice needs help carrying across a venue that has horrible acoustics.

  • It sound pretty cool.

  • It's the Joe Cocker of opera!

  • Of course they are. You've never seen a recital? Never seen the 3tenors?

  • It's obviously an outdoor gala event... it needs mics...

  • Absolutely the best!

  • I absolutely love Simon Keenlyside's singing, but does anybody know what is wrong with his arms?

  • He just needs to loosen up, I would say.

  • Yeah, could be nerves I guess, but it's very distracting to me. It's somewhat comforting though to think that a singer as accomplished as he is could be so nervous.

  • The most striking thing about his arms is the fact that his suit coat's sleeves are far too long. A little bit of tailoring would do him some good.

  • I like this version
