  • I feel for you. I hope you are able to find the ability to prove yourself able to give him full time care (inc. keep him on his meds) so that hhe can be reunited with his son.

  • I have a story very similar to Johns. Unfortunately. I am 24 and I just got released from a two month stay and was told if I returned I would be committed to long term care. Anywhere from 6 months to years. I can't control it sometimes, and I am very scared what's in store for my future. I have been held down, stripped of my clothing, strapped to beds, locked in seclusion rooms and forced medications. I am a fighter but I am terrified. Petrified. I wish your family the best.

  • Trust me when I tell you, I feel your pain. They sectioned my beautiful brother because he started hearing voices when he was 25 & he thought the government was causing the voices as a test on him. My dad was a violent Irish alcoholic who left when I was 8 & my brother was 10. My mum struggled alone with 8 children. My brother got out by pretending to agree with everything they said. Now they want to section me. You must keep writing to a tribunals. all my love to beautiful, caring John. update

  • he looks like a nutjob. the only crime against humanity, is the fact normal humans have to deal with them. Put them on an island somewhere

  • @TheRosettaStoned Are you being serious? God you are ignorant. The crime against humanity is the pain of having to read your senseless comment. I pray you never become distressed with overwhelming grief and end up in the same situation...you would never make such a comment again.

  • @1568cinderella you know, you are right.... They should have some kind of shot, to put them to sleep permanantly

  • @TheRosettaStoned Im actually quite saddened by your comment. Do something to break the mould and type into the youtube search bar: "mad pride subvertise 03" Enjoy...

  • @1568cinderella theyre retards. Not like they are actually a normal person..... Its for their best interests

  • "Crime against humanity"

Yes, this is what psychiatry is doing. There is no other word for that!

  • 20th & early 21st century psychiatry will be leveraged against by future generations as reassurance that they are, in fact, evolved; and they will say, "How base is the mind that regarded this as a just, scientific solution, or anything besides the cruelest deprecation of a man."

  • Wishing your John every blessing.

  • I sinceerly hope john is released. One day psychiatry will be revealed for what it is; pseudoscience and eugenics. John will be remembered in years to come as a victim of hummanities worst endeavour ... to label thought as a chemical reaction, this has never been proven!

  • @EllieMental1 John is awaiting transferral to Holly Hill, a rehabilitation centre/ sheltered housing behind Carraig Mor in Knocknaheeny (ask Deano, he knows of this area!) Then after a spell there, he will be moved down to West Cork, where all the supports will be in place for him. Then it is up to John to utilise those supports and work towards his recovery. He is very keen on this idea.

  • Oh good. So John was traumatized by his lack of a good father- and his son will not have a happy and normal childhood of his own because his father is MIA too. This is a cycle of abuse, and needs to stop.

All this is just some unreal nightmare in which I am just hallucinating. It is all in my head. I just feel really angry and frustrated and the sense of injustice I feel about this is just tremendous. But, maybe I just need some pills and injections. That would make it all OK now wouldn't it?

  • @Carex09 I know, it's totally a cycle of abuse, in fact it's a culture of abuse. It fills me with anger and frustration too. It's like, let's just put a giant lid on this suffering and perpetuate it. No talk about deep healing or acknowledging the root of anything or helping John to make some sense out of his experiences... in fact, John is punished for being a trauma survivor.

None of it makes any sense whatsoever.

  • people need to come togeather on this matter and we need to set up a protest of some sort to expose whats going on in these places.

  • @jameskerry7 I agree and I think that shift is slowly starting to happen here in Ireland. There are organisations and individuals coming together not only to expose this 'treatment' but also offering alternatives.

  • Clopixel is given or supoosed to be given as a lasy resort for those who seem to be agitaed or maybe lose it,but if he is being given it only wenyou come to see him as we found out yeserday i would question was he agitated or agressive before the vist if not then i would see it as a concern!!!maybe the N/a might have needed it after josh was playing with the fire engine lol yes mr freezes cocacola is marketing thing there sry but he had me in fits as well take care xxDeano x

  • John said he is given it because he talks too much at people!!! Could this be for real??? It is sickening

  • Yes, I will check that out. According to John it is Clopixol. I can clarify that he was given a shot both the last 2 wednesdays before I visited. I am wondering why he is given shots in conjunction with my visits??? Just before I come in. This has happened in the past too now that I think of it. So is it given in small doses to act as a sedative and, if so, is that legal?

  • Also clopixel is used as a sedative commenly known as akerfase!!makes the workers job easier!!!!which to me is barbaric to someones health and wellbeing!!

  • @dvno69 Yes, Deano, it is indeed barbaric. Personally, I think they view John as a pest. And medicate him to make their job easier. Perhaps he's less of a challenge then. (Or perhaps they are jealous because John invented 'Coca-cola Mr. Freezes'!!! Sorry, have to laugh or I'd cry!)

  • Also I am feeling confused about these clopixol shots John is getting. Last week he had one before myself and Josh went in to visit him, he told me he had one on the weekend and then yesterday when Dean, myself and Josh went in, he had another! What's that about? I thought depots could only be administered every 2 weeks or every month?

  • HI G Clopixol is a slow release preparation normally given at 2-4 week intervals it can be given weekly if its having no effects (personally if its not working think it should be stopped), I have never heard of anyone receiving it more than once weekly can you check it out, was it another drug? If this is the case they are using the drug exceptionally and can be called to justify their actions

  • one more thing!!we did see a paronoid nurseing assitant when joshes toy fire engine was makeing a noise of a siren the N/A thought it was the panic alarm and basicly paniced and we laughed to the point i sed who is the paranoiid one now lmao

  • @dvno69 Tee-hee, yes Deano, the fire-engine moment was classic alright! Fire-engines seem to be a recurring theme for Josh, as his 'break out' plan for his Dad involves one too!!!! It was so lovely to be with you today visiting John. He really liked you. And you are so understanding. It is so wrong what has happened to John. Yes, it is a human rights issue. Thank you so much for hanging out with us and having a laugh too. John has never lost his sense of humour through all the hell. He is strong

  • My first impression of see John was!!going in a loced room with 2 cameras, but its the only room and all the other visitors go in there !!ther is no privacy,we could hear a worried mother and father talking about ther son while in the room,to lock some one up like that is a crime and is illeagal(human rights dissabillite)all i saw today was fear not from john but from those who treat him in the so called recovery concept, allthough it makes me think who is the ill ones!!

  • Today i went to see john with grainne and josh!!for a guy who has been incarcerated for 4 years that man is strong and still got his humour which i saw today,John is given a injection before grainne and josh come to see him what i would say what are people scared of??john is a ray of sunshine for Grainne and josh, human rights is a big issue hear and i feel very angrey to see a young man being treated like some sort of crimanel only for the benifit of others who will not listen to his past!!!

  • All those things what make us feel better about ourselfs can come in line with freedom thats were the fear is not with us but with those who feel social control is the only way to block this Dream,so when you have some one standing up for what they think and feel is right then its classed as a threat not to us but to the one stoping us therefore a persons rights are taken away, control is ok but in the wrong hands it is demoralizieing to the point were it can destroy your soul!WE HAVE A VOICE XX

  • There are those who have been in hospitals longer than John hear in the uk under home office restrictions,i personaly know my own freinds who are,as far as staff are concerned i feel you get good and bad in all aspects of life, and the word as you put it"locked up"all i would say even some prisons have more freedom than what John has!!!

  • @dvno69 I agree, Deano. His only crime? Sensitivity, fragility, a broken heart, deep hurt, a unique way of looking at life... what I want to know is why are the things that make ALL OF US feel better about ourselves (love, support, normal everyday things) denied to John? I'm not even allowed to take him to see a film. Surely that would make him feel better. It's a cruel, barbaric system he is entangled in; disempowering and creating dependency. He is maintained and contained and to suit who?

  • With the new mental treatment act no one could be "locked up" for 3 years unless there was good reason. I feel the video misrepresents the staff who work so hard with one of the most marginalised groups in society. You obviously love John very much and he is lucky to have you in his life. I wish your family well.

  • Your naive comment left on the video, "Incarceration of John" leads me to suspect that you have no knowledge of mental distress and how people are treated in the UK and worldwide. They say ignorance is bliss. I hope neither you or any of your loved ones ever get caught up in the psychiatric system for if you do you are in for a rude awakening.

  • I feel sorry for you and your naievety you will learn ! It took me thirty years to see the truths, I now regard myself as a conscientious objector, i refuse to take part in psychiatric oppression, I was a nice hard working person too, it doesnt mean i did not take part in an evil process and acts in the name of doing good. The law concerning the "mentally ill" has to be loose and weak otherwise we couldnt use it and the only people it protects are the state and its agents.

  • @Smallpau100 There is actually a couple of staff members that John likes and they like him. However, the balance of power makes it impossible for a relationship based on equality. If you read my full article you will see that I believe the psychiatric system as it stands hurts both 'service-users' and 'service-providers' (staff who genuinely care). The truth is that if you really want to help trauma survivors, you have to work outside the totalitarian state/ dictatorship that is bio-psychiatry.

  • @Smallpau100 There is no 'good reason' to lock up John. He is being punished for being a trauma survivor. How is that going to help him get over his deep hurt and terror? More hurt and more fear is not the solution. Forced treatment does not suit John. Does it suit anyone?

  • @Smallpau100 I am very lucky to have John in my life. He has given me a beautiful son, he has opened my heart and my eyes to so much. He is a gentle, caring and kind man, a patient and loving Father who has the most beautiful soul. He is one of the most deep and profound men I have ever met, emotionally streets ahead of all the others. He is tender and talented and it breaks my heart all the prejudice and discrimination he has had to go through and how misunderstood he is. It is patronising.

  • @Smallpau100 Metal institutions are torture camps for humans with emotional problems. I'm sure all the staff do good work in the torture camps, you do as your told the very same as the patients. When a patient has to die, you just follow orders without question. Many children were incarcerated into mental institutions from the concentration camps from industrial schools. Christy Smith was placed in a mental institution because he was vagrant. He spent the remainder of his life there and murdered

  • @Smallpau100 Its pretty easy for psychiatrists to find a "good reason" to lock someone up for three years. Especially when they are of the ignorant mindset that if you suffer with mental "illness", you do not have the capacity to make your own life decisions. Oh, and John is not part of a "marginalised group"...this is happening all over the place and all of the time. You are writing this man off just like the psychiatric services are. Please educate yourself before you comment.

  • May I express my full support to John and his family... Hoping they'll be back together very very soon... I'm from Chile

  • This really made me cry... This is indeed a crime to humanity.... The song meant something to me, but from today on it will make me think of John, Josh and Grainne... Will keep thinking of you the rest of my life...

  • Grainne, Make contact with Dr. Ivor Browne, who is running breathwork groups twice weekly for Psychiatric patients like John

I believe there should be a primal room on every ward in every hospital where people like John can fully feel and express ( safely and slowly ) the traumas of his painful childhood instead of having the righteous rage quashed by mood stabilisers. I wish you well Grainne, making this video about John is a loving act,

  • @Frauchan Thank you so much for your comment. I would love to make contact with Ivor Browne but I'm not sure how to go about it. Do you know how I could contact him? I have read his book 'Music and Madness' and his approach for releasing and processing trauma is truly inspirational. I agree, there should be a primal room on every ward in every hospital to address the roots of distress and to process the legacy of a painful childhood. Much thanks and love, Grainne.

  • Posted to our page as a favourite this is somethig that means an awful lot to our members. Best Wishes xx

  • brilliant video---powerful and emotionally intense---my god! thank you for sharing it---Daniel

  • This video shows to me that the mental health system uses social control to those who are defient in there views aginst treatment which to the point is then turned round and is put down to johns fault as it is called medication ressisdent, only to realise its past issues in life which have effected him which is a natural reaction to theses traumas, maybe love and kindness, understanding be used and that revolving down be an exit!!i also see a very young ellimental(josh)who loves his father like usx

  • Oh Grainne, what can I do to help. Anything, let me know. My Aaron is a powerful angel, I will tell him to watch over John and I will keep all of you in my prayers. God Bless - stay strong John much love Glenna Todovich - Aaron's mom

  • Congrats to Elemental for doing such a good job on this video. We are proud of you. It was great to connect with you in Cork. Your heart and creativity is outstanding. This is the way we will let the world know it is heart love we need not brain power. Brilliant!

  • John is a powerful man supported by human beings we will find a way to help reunite man and boy!

  • The pain these people cause how can they call themselfs a caring profession.

  • It is a crime against humanity to this beautiful family to drug John, incarcerate him and throw away the key. We need to get together to find a way to release John and support his fine family to survive and thrive. Let us get our heads together and do something.

  • EleMental are 100% in solidarity with Grainne and will do whatever it takes to bring justice for John and all the scapegoats psychiatry holds and bullies.

  • My response to this excellent is very emotional. I know John, Grainne and Josh. The last time I saw Josh we played together on his trampoline you can see in one of the picture. Helena was in the same prison ( Carrigmore) where John is incarcerated for the past more than 3 years. I was at Josh's christening and we were in the pool together when he was a baby. We were proud to have Grainne and Josh at both launches of our book 'Soul Survivor'.

  • Your task is not to seek for love, but merely to seek and find all the barriers within yourself that you have built against it. Rumi

  • Like you say in your 'My Vietnam' video, John is 100% SURVIVOR of his circumstances. We need to clear people's names and give them their dignity back and acknowledge the original trauma, rather than medicating and labelling human suffering. We need to view distress as a transformational crisis or process of renewal, not a life sentence of 'mental illness'. This video shows people the link between trauma and mental/ emotional distress and our failure as a society to respond in a more loving way.

  • Your love and support is powerful and potent, Marion. You really 'get' John and you just 'get' it all! I love you, Grainne. Xxx
