Shoulda known nothing could match this game in terms of its legendary status. I'll continue enjoying the four I have then, underground 2 for crazy customization, most wanted for open road cop escapes, shift for some fun realism and awesome drifts, and of course this game for nostalgia and the breakneck speeds you really feel you hit. Then my friends would rage and yell "how the hell did you do that" while they got busted and I crossed the finish line.

Sure, the graphics and physics are dated, but it knows what a racing game needs to be: a senseless, straight-to-the-point, unimaginably exotic fast cars speeding their way down a beautiful, varied track to a kick-ass tune.

Hope the new NFS is like this one, not those Fast & Furious wannabes with stupid plots. This was the truth feeling, the real need for speed. I remember driving, winning races, unlocking secrets, spending HOURS and most of the times when finished the most of the game, just driving by Atlantica, Summit, hitting the traffic and making it burn, hahaha. For me, this will always be the best racing game. Ahh, I wish there could be an HD pack for NFS1, 2, 3, 4 and 5 (Porsche) for PS3 (and 360) someday.

The graphics are pretty darn good considering the limitations. System requirements are 166mhz, 16 mb ram (note: no 3d acceleration). An average smartphone runs at about 600 mhz, 512 mb ram(note: most phones have a 3d GPU nowadays).

If you don't like how the game plays then don't play it. It's not supposed to be realistic though, it's an arcade type game, physics could have been better but back then tech wasn't as good.

The game's just a solid racer with lots of innovations.
