The chord in the chorus (looks like a double bar over the 2nd and 4th frets, with the pinkie out on the 5th fret of the high E, and the hammer on the 3rd fret of the B string) is really tricky for me to catch. I can handle the fingering of it, but how exactly do you play it / which notes do you hit?
@LoveandGrace77 i play the g and high e string. i play the g with my pick and the high e with my middle finger. thanks for watching! im glad you like it
Nice playing dude! I saw you played together with the master, nice! A little question, can you explain how to pick that way? I don't understand when to use your pick or fingers. Because I see you pick some high notes with only your finger, and my thought was to use for single notes and strumming only your pick and when it comes to 2 or more notes you combine your pick and fingers... Or is that not efficient/easy?
this has given me the nuances to finish off some of my Tommy skills....i saw him in Charlotte at the neighborhood theatre this week..best show of my life. only wish he would have played this one...but i think "Initiation" made up for it :) thank you so much Scott...don't ever lose your gift from God, i'm positive Tommy has seen your videos and he is proud. great job...
great lesson man. i think this is the first tommy song i've been able to learn in just a few hours. how did you get to play with him? talk about a dream come true!
Thanks for the lesson, and your playing is very nice. I currently only have a nylon string classical guitar, and using the thumb to fret notes is absolutely brutal, pretty much impossible. I hope it become easier when i get my acoustic. If I may ask, what guitar is that? Is sounds very nice and balanced. I think it's a Taylor, but what model?
yea if you have a nylon classical the neck front to back can be almost twice as wide as a steel string acoustic. i have one classical like this and one more like a steel string acoustic.
Thanks for the lessons. Theres no way I could have picked up the little nuances that make this so cool same on your over the rainbow. Really grateful. You are an awesome guitarist and even better teacher thanks for your gift. I saw Tommy 3/26 in Evansville, In and he was incredible. Thanks for Payin it forward bro
thanks a lot. im glad you like the videos! and yea you 'get' it. these videos arent really for people who are learning from scratch. they're more for people who just need to smooth it out
For us with short fingers, the same intro notes can be played by barring at 5, then D 5 & ,Hi D7, D5, D7 G7. Doesn't ring quite as nice, but makes it playable.
Great video! You play it very nice! I am trying to learn this one myself, but I have some practicing to do... The stretch in the intro is driving me mad :)
Dude, I can't imagine how awesome it must've been to play with Tommy himself. Thanks for the vid - it helped me work out some kinks in my playing, especially with the ending.
I still can't quite understand the part of the chorus where it's on the Bm and then F#m chord (0:27 & 3:18) and it wasn't very clear on this vid. I don't think the tab sounds quite right either.
Tommy Jr.!,..once again some awesome, very detailed instruction on a killer TE beauty,..you deserve a big fat rhinestone studded trophy for all these fine vids you've graced us with. May have to make a run to Jersey in June to witness you on stage with THE MAN himself,...WAY COOOOOOL! Tim, #1 Fan
Again, wonderful work. Interesting break-down of the song. I never went into that much detail, so I might be able to pick up a few pointers to get it exactly right, or a Tommy says in one of your other videos: "as the composer intended"
thanks! you are very kind to give the lesson rather just showing that you can play this song very well. I wish you good things and success !

@MartijnGuitar I'm pretty sure the hybrid method does exactly that - pick and finger at the same time.

And I just answered my own question - I see you have a Taylor 414ce on your profile. Sounds great.

this is a beautiful song, but me too, the stretch in the intro is driving me mad.
I want to extend my fingers to play this...

The stretch in the intro was driving me mad, but I trained a couple of days and now. Easy as pie :)

Great Guitar, it is a Taylor, right?
You were so lucky, I wanted to be with you that day, the day you had a lesson with Tommy. Only one question: how have you done?
RinoRiso 3 years ago
could anyone post a link to decent tabs, i've looked around quite a bit and keep finding partial ones or ones that dont sound right.
