I will type slowly for you.  The Secretary of the Navy commands both the Navy and the Marine Corps.

In time of a full (Declared) war he is also in command of the Coast Guard which otherwise is under the command of Homeland Security (prior to that, it fell under the Department of Transportation).

The Marines are equal partners with the Navy in the Department of the Navy. That's why the Commadant ranks 4 starts as well as the CNO.

Don't worry about PI or SD.

Both are run exactly the same.

It's the terrain at each Depot that is the primary difference.

Each has it's own set of difficulties.

I went to SD in '81 and I can tell you the hills of Pendleton are asskickers in their own right. (Mount Motherfucker and Old Smokey come to mind)

Charge hard no matter where you are!

You'll learn that the Fleet offers so much more than RTR.
