@scuzznightrunner the wheel in the front controls aperture when you are in aperture priority mode, it controls shutter speed when you are in shutter priority mode but if you are on manual mode you control shutter speed or aperture mode alternatively via holding down the little exposure compensation button (the one on your right thumb) while you turn the wheel, i hope my bad english doesn´t get in the way

i've got this one , the picture quality is far good but too much plastic of bad quality :(

I've put a TAMRON SP AF 17-50 mm f/2.8 XR Di II LD on it and it's fantastic !

this alpha is a drawback from A200, not worth the money, lot less useable... and if you wanna go cheap, don't go with DSLRs in the first place :)

@aneta114 Don't buy a DSLR. A $70 DC is a better option for you and you can surely view the photos on the LCD screen afterwards!

I was in pc world the other day, and had a go with this camera, I already have the a200, so I had something to compare it to...

First things first, it has to be the worst ergonomically designed modern DSLR on the market, the shutter button is so recessed it made getting a nice sturdy, comfortable grip very, very difficult, and the way the grip itself has been made, it made my hands stretch in ways which they were never supposed to!

Although it is a nice camera, TRY BEFORE YOU BUY!

Just got my 230 last week , it's a nice system but I will get a 200 or 300mm lens as soon as I can because it's struggling with long range shot's I cannot take a bird for example because the 55mm wont get in close enough without scaring the bird away.

other than that I am enjoying using it so I say it's a nice learner camera.

Supposedly, the EOS 1000D is the better camera, however in my experience I view the Alpha 230 as better due to picture quality and ease of use.

The a230 is an amazing entry level camera.
