the thing is, medical emergency is just that. so this could be a quick decision thing. so courts do not have time to step in. Now some do okay without the blood. bloodless surgery centers are gold standard of care for some situations. This is not a black and white issues in some ways. Sad.

That's so sad! I really cried when I heard the man's daughter died. I've always hated the idea of Witnesses not taking blood if they were going to die. Life is so much more important that sticking to one unhealthy rule. That poor girl. I can't believe they'd give her fucking arsenic and hide her while she had skin cancer! What a load of cods wallop... taking her away and giving her arsenic. Never in my 12 yrs of being a jw have i heard of jw's performing any form of medical treatments on anyone!!! When my wife was rushed to hospital for a emergency cesarian she lost a considerable amount of blood but with the guidance from the hospital liason committee the doctors gave her alternative treatments like blood volume expanders and epo and were amazed at how quickly she recovered. u cant believe everything u see...

When I was 12 (1977) I knew a woman, amother of 4, that bleed to death after the birth of her 4th child. She refused a blood transfusion and she had been hemorrhaging. I can only imagine what the 4 girls ended up like.

I find it ironic that JW's don't believe in abortion because they say they value life, but then they'll let their children die. My niece's young Jehovah's Witness husband died from lack of blood transfusion when he was in a car accident and his spleen was ruptured. They had a young baby at the time. His grandmother had a court order which would legally allow him to take a blood transfusion, and was running up hospital steps with it, when the elders of the Watchtower came out of the hospital to say he had died. So very, very sad and unecessary in our day and age with modern medicine.
