I've been playing this game for about a week now and I have to admit the gameplay and everything is pretty great. However there's that one MAJOR turndown. If you want to be able to play on a competitive level you have to be able to dish out about 20euros just to be able to play fully ONE single civilisation.
Don't get me wrong,I wouln't mind paying for the game at all. But having to pay 20 euros each time I feel like playing a new civ is just not worth it.
@Arathornbr The graphics are good you tard... love to see you make anything close to what they have made, the "graphics" every one is crying about is the art style they went for and its good. maybe should try the beta first get past level 2?? Btw this game wont be a flop / failure.. its underrated and people keep slamming it before they try it.
@tyza123 Its my opinion man. Cant accept? Deal with it, but dont call 'tard' a guy you dont know. As I said, Im playing the beta. Its cool, polished and the gameplay is great. But I dont like the animations and some models are too much 'low poly'. Warcraft 3 have better models and animations and is a 10 years old game.
@Arathornbr Have you gone though options and turn the polys up, you got to remember its not a CD game its a client and its only beta. its not a 10 year olds game at all, some of the stuff you have to do and work out would be to advanced for most 10 year olds. the animations are fine i don't know what your on about? the people walk fine they attack fine nothing looks tacky, even when the villagers mine, fish, hunt and gather the animation is perfect.
Watching these blogs, now i see why GPG keeps pumping out bad games.
They need to lose all this immaturity and hire some serious employees that want to make kick ass games. This AoE online project is doomed. If GPG was smart they'd steer clear of this one. It looks bad, plays bad, and has zero hope for success.

My god, you might think that they learned from their "on hold" title video blogs. Tell us about the game and keep all that "funny" shit elsewhere. Yeah, some may enjoy your kind of representation Chris, but it wouldn't surprise me if the large majority can't stand to watch videos that contain 75% of completly unrelated crap for some few glimps on the game.
Graphics seem very cartoonish, I guess thats trying to tap into the 'casual gaming' market who won't have PC's powerful enough to run anything much better.

About the game, why are some guys complaining? the game will be free, so you first can play it and see if you like it. If you don't there will be more RTS games. And, it's just a Spin-off of the series, if Microsoft sees it doesn't work, you will get Age of Empires 4 (or maybe, they will left for dead the franchise, I dunno).
The thing is: they are creating something new, give it a try!
One thing to add on graphics is that the majority reject this game at first glance because of the cartoonish feel. A failed first impression could heavily damage your marketing, and I don't need to tell you that a lot of people aren't happy about it.
As long as the core combat is good I'll be mostly happy, but be aware if you focus on the PvE of the MMO and not enough accessibility of PvP, people will lose interest. People want to fight eachother, and you need to expand beyond a simple arena

I'm very skeptical about this game. GPG was handed this project, so the majority of the game design was not done by them. Theres no strategic zoom, no large unit caps, and it attempts to have MMO aspects to it, something GPG has never done.
On top of that its free2play with micro transactions all over the place, with rare quests and rare items. This is starting to sound like WoW. I think a RTS/MMO could work but not with business model. It seems rushed and a money grab.
GPG has been involved with the development for some time now. We’re very confident in their abilities and are excited to show off their contributions off to the world. Age of Empires Online will NOT have micro transactions. We will have Premium Civilizations available for purchase (every civ will be playable all the way to the level cap for FREE), by purchasing a Premium Civ you will be able to use Rare and Epic gear. You will NOT be granted any gear you haven’t earned though.
We will also have additional quest lines available for purchase in Booster Packs. These will be completely optional and you will not have had to purchase a Premium Civ to enjoy them. @AgeofEmpiresOnline I've been playing the latest beta build and I got to a certain point where I feel like I can't progress. It seems like its marketed toward the mainstream AoE players but is really a hardcore AoE game. It just seems very tedious and repetitive.
@TenTr0n GPG has had experience with small battles like this in Total Annihilation, and most of the framework was done by robot entertainment (those were the guys right?) and I think an established dev liek GPG can handle it. Demigod also had multiplayer and rpg aspects in it with the DOTA attempt and dont forget the Dungeon Siege series bro!
Besides if they wanted a money grab why would they put Kings And Castles on hold, which pretty much ever Sup Com fan and fantasy rts fan would grab up....

It is rushed and a money grab, there are topics all over their very own forums about this. $100 for 6 months worth of content... and after those 6 months? what if I want the new content, or new civs...Dash out another $100? $200 in one year for one game?

GPG brought you dungeon siege one of the best RPGs i ever played im glad they team up with them .
graphics somehow remind me of the settlers graphics which is pretty neat .
PvP system need some work, i hate waiting for a long time on queue .
i'd love to see more different quests not always build and train units and attack.

Actually, how about an age of empires that's just native civilizations? Like Aztecs, Mayans, Incas, Toltecs, Tlaxcalans, those Zapotec guys, etc...

This looks like a major step-DOWN from age of empires 3. Making a game 'cartoony' is no compensation for shit graphics. Imo it looks worse.
Just for reference I thought that AOE3 was actually a pretty fun game with the card customisation and stuff.
