@peterpeterxxo Did he say that in his autobio? In his 1981 biography, he said he chose Adam because he related to the Biblical first man, Ant because of the insect.
Adam has always presented himself in an artistic way hence the makeup n dandy clothes. This always attracted me as his appearance was never boring or drab but exciting and very sexy. There was never a question in my mind as to his sexual orientation always straight. Way b4 his time metrosexual. Rock on Adam looking just as sexy as ever my man
He was ahead of his time; many guys since have worn makeup and lip gloss, although sometimes against their will but these days it is not uncommon for guys to look after their skin and presentation.
Thanks for sharing this. Was a huge fan of Adam and the Ants in the '80s and still am today. Have all my original LPs and am starting to transfer those that were never on CD to CD. This was one of the top videos made in the 80s.
As kids we all used to jump off our sofas: "Stand and deliver!". Listened to Kings/Prince Charming albums so much back then. My sister was an Abba fan :)
I like how he explains the idea of a music video. This was filmed in March of 1981, months before MTV began in August 1981. Pretty visionary of them to do this, actually. Another artist who was early with the music video was David Bowie, who made Ashes to Ashes in 1980. I wish more artists were as creative as these early video pioneers.
@luminaire44 True, true. But there are some visionary artists in terms of music videos nowadays. Off the top of my head, Kasabian and Beck have consistently great videos.
jeez when did stand and deliver actually come out? i know i had a damn big crush on him even way back then! glad it was on him and not jason donovan or ronan keating or such!
@inconceivabledark 1981 and it was #1 for 5 weeks - we never got sick of hearing it though! I remember reading about Adam in Sounds before he was famous and he played a concert in Gosforth Park, Newcastle....damn I wish I had gone.
2. The bastards who are making it difficult to put copyrighted material on YouTube are missing the point. I had forgotten about Adam Ant until I stumbled upon these "pirated" pieces. I am planning now to buy some of his DVDs. So by cutting off access, or confining it to their own company websites, they are harming sales, not protecting them.
3. Thank you for posting this.
4. I understand now why they don't show him landing when he jumped out of that tree!
mike mansfield said it all, I recorded a vh-1 show hosted by clare grogan about 11 years ago and someone requested this vid and i just used to rewind it and watch it over and over and over again. Been hooked on the guy ever since.
Adam & The Ants WERE my childhood. In my eyes, the best around. Pop videos of today wouldn't be what they are if it hadn't been for the likes of Stand & Deliver and Prince Charming.

The video ("Stand and Deliver") was quite a crap. Filming it straight to videotape made it look cheap. Most of videos these times were filmed on 16mm film and then manipulated in videodesk.
I bought it from an ex dressing room assistant, I also bought a very 1980's suit worn by Adam along with photos of him wearing it behind the scenes :-)
They also had other items owned by the Ants but I could'nt afford them aswell.
FYI - American fans have to order it over the internet thru www.amazon.com. Apparently it's not available in US bookstores...copyright laws, they tell me.
you know, it astounds me that so many ppl think they know about Adam/Stuart and his mental health. most of it is from the press, and we all know what he thinks of the press right? :) but there was a good show here in England recently with Marco talking about it...and I'd trust what he says more..though the tv ppl can still edit it at will. :S
From what I've read, Adam has suffered from manic depression since his early 20's. Apparently, he has been involved in criminal activity because of it and has even attempted suicide in the past. There is no cure for mental disorders, but they are treatable with medication. My boyfriend was diagnosed as bipolar a year ago, so I've learned quite a bit about mental illness. It is very sad at how this disease can affect someone and make them do things they don't even realize they're doing.
