  • Can this be used as JUST a backup device, and have nothing whatsoever to do with my router / modem ?

  • this can just be used as just a nothing special external hard drive right? (just like a flash drive would act like)

  • Hi, does anyone know if you can program the time capsule to only backup in the hours you need it like, for instance, between 5-10 mon - fri and all day weekends?

If not, if i hooked it up to a timer plug, would this damage it?

    Thanks

  • So can you just use it for being a hardrive ? On my macbook do i just send files to it or something and it stores it and then when i want it it comes back ?

  • Shaking... Please use a camera tripod for your next videos.

  • @Medech2012 Thanks but this video is over a year old now.....I've gotten a tripod about a year ago and have used that on newer videos.

  • @porsche558 Cool ! Thanks

  • OK, say im not at home an i need a file. can i download it from this thing? if not, is there such a device i can buy to do that?

  • @simpsonstewie The Time capsule wouldn't help you for that. What you need is something like a network adapter. Seagate makes one. It allows you to connect external hard drive to your router and access it over your home network or the internet.

  • What was the price on this? Because, I would rather just buy and external hard drive and connect it to my home network. I have a feeling it would be cheaper

  • @MrC0MPUT3R I'm not trying to be a smartass by saying this but if you are asking about the price then your better off buying an external drive. The Time Capsule isn't cheap and personally although it's been a good router I'll probably not be buying a new one.

  • i would suggest not getting this if you are not looking to replace it within a year in a half. see, i have one of these, and the crappy capacitors they put in this thing just gave out. it takes major skill in wires and circuits and digital electronics to fix this thing manually. i have no wireless connection. now my family and i have to take turns on a stupid ethernet cord until god knows when.

  • @suppachrisholland I have heard about that happening to a lot of them. It's been about a year and a half that I've had mine and it's been acting up lately.

  • @porsche558 it is cheap to fix if you have a little experience in digital electronics. see the transistors burn out and need replacing. theres plenty of youtube vids on how to use it. although i am capable of fixing it i didnt want to destroy it.

  • Remove the rubber padding on the bottom to help prevent over heating.

  • you kinda sound like wingsofredemption.

    just sayin'

    :D

    good review by the way

  • @paolothekeyboardguy LOL! He has a noticeable southern accent and a whole lot more subscribers than I do.

  • I think I´ll buy one! I didn´t konw about that device.

  • oh man !!!!! What did he say? kkkkk

  • i have this... amazing and hasn't had even one hiccup

  • This is an extremely expensive piece of trash. Don't buy this thing, its all problems

  • Are the reviews true about the Time Capsule? After 18 months of use they die or something catastrophic happens and unless you have Applecare, your out of $300?

  • @iselldummysmacks

They are garbage even without those problems you just listed.

  • you sound like yoda some times

  • @cashbusterDT LMAO!! I guess I do. More like an evil yoda am I.

  • 0:44

    What did he say?

  • @GIANNITHEBEST1 I believe "he" said, "An apple logo on the top there". LOL!!

  • @GIANNITHEBEST1 lil apple logo on the top there

  • I heard that after approximately 18 months of service the battery dies. Once the battery dies it is worthless. I got this info on apple.com website from reviewers is this true.

  • @linkabove Not all of them are having issues staying alive but some are. They seem to have power supply issues. I didn't know that back when I bought it a year ago but I bought apple care for it. So if mine dies I will bring it back to apple and get another.

  • @porsche558

Ok that's cool. I like the fact that it serves both as storage drive and a router.

  • @linkabove It's a great concept....router and network storage in one.

  • I have one question i have i time capsule but the printer does not work when it is plugged in. Do you have to do something in settings?

  • @Assassin715 Yes you do. If you have a mac then you must go to the airport utility and enable printer sharing. Also you must go into system preferences and add the shared network printer. If you have a PC then download the apple airport utility and Bonjour and it will help you set up the printer on your PC.

  • @porsche558 Thanks i will try that

  • Just wait till we get to 500 TB. And that will not even be enough space. Lol.

  • @TheOnlinePwner knowing me 500 TB will be too small LOL I am a hard drive space hog. I hate deleting anything.

  • @porsche558 Same here man! But by that time, programs will be a couple of tb if we're lucky.

  • Soo If I have thousands of videos I can save them in here rather then my macbook hard drive?

  • I was thinking about this, but TONS of reviews say it dies after like 18months and u lose all your data =/

  • you sound like ernie from elmo's world

  • no aluminum unibody! :'(

2 questions.. 1. does the HDD work with windows comuters too? 2. does the HDD make much noise?

  • @h4x0y ok 2 answers LOL!! 1. it works well with windows computers 2. it makes a little noise but you don't notice it unless you are right next to it in a quiet room. I currently have 3 Mac computers using it as a backup and 2 windows computers using it as network storage space.

  • @porsche558 Since how long have you had Time Capsule? I'm thinking in getting one, but i'm very concerned with some reviews i've read over Apple's website. A lot of people said that their Time Capsule failed after 18 months and that they lost all their information.......... :S Could you tell me if you'ver ever had any kind of trouble with it?

  • Great review, but is it really worth $329?

    thanks.

  • Absolutely useless ..

  • @jockeypants really? Wow I thought having a router that acts as 1TB of network storage and allows an ordinary USB printer to become a network printer and has gigabit ethernet speeds as well as Draft N wireless was pretty useful. Not to mention cheaper than buying a router, network printer, and network external hard drive. I guess you know better than I do.....looks like I just waisted my money on a product that does the work of several things huh? Perhaps I should have consulted you first.

  • Does it work like a external Hard-disc to Windows vista

  • @MrElkjaer Yes it does....but I would use windows 7 if you can.....not that it makes a difference to the time capsule what OS you run.....I just find Windows 7 to be far faster and more stable than Vista.

  • @porsche558 Thank you but then i think i would buy a extern hard drive instead...

  • @MrElkjaer That would work too. THe only thing the Time Capsule offers is it's a router and network storage in one. If you already have a good router and all you need is network storage then I would just get an external network drive. I'd also upgrade to Windows 7 LOL!!

  • if you have 2 or 3 macs on the network, can you back them all up on the 1TB drive?

  • @Spiceman333 yes you can.....the only limit is the size of the hard drive in the time capsule. If you had 2 or 3 macs and each had say 2 TB hard drives in them with at least 1 TB filled....then you would run into a space issue since the Time capsule only holds 1 TB. The new ones hold more now...I think 2 TB.

  • @porsche558 ahh yeah, my macbooks have 250GB on them each.

    Thanks a lot.

Also do you know if this can support VoIP (maybe a voip adaptor) as it's part of my internet plan.

  • @Spiceman333 you should be all set with a 1 TB Time Capsule then. As far as I know these routers will support VOIP with an adapter just like most other routers will. Think of the time capsule as a just an ordinary router but with a hard drive and USB support for a printer or second hard drive.

  • @porsche558

Sweet I needed the VoIP. Do you know anything about TC's failing after 13-18 months? I've been reading that they run at really hot temps and around that time tend to die...

    Thanks for all the help!

  • @Spiceman333 The first generation ones do have that issue...I'm on my second one now (apple was kind enough to replace it even though I didn't have apple care and it was more than a year old). The have resolved that issue in the new ones....which now come in 1TB and 2TB models. If I were you and you have the extra cash go the the 2TB Time Capsule.

  • @porsche558

Oh ok, thanks for all your help!!

  • subtitles please beacus i´m a spanish and i don´t understand the english

  • dam that thing is fucking huge, should have went with netgear

  • Great video!

  • Thanks

  • to confirm, am i able to use this as an extrenal hard drive for an extra TB of space?? NOT using time machine?

  • Yes, you don't have to use it as a time machine drive. It works as just plain old external storage space.

  • wot is it ?

  • can u just use it as a wireless hard drive and router? i dont wanna use it as a time machine back up drive

  • you don't have to use it as a time machin backup if you don't want to

  • Hey guys would you recomend this router for xbox live gaming i need something with really fast connection and really good security thanks.

  • The Time capsule should get the job done

  • Hey I've just ordered a 1Tb Time Capsule from eBay. It is from Singapore and I was just wanting to know whether the wireless N and internet side of things will work fine with my Virgin Media fibre optics cable connection which uses a router. Will these things fully work even if they're international units (The plug sockets are fine as its Type G which is the same here in England)

If someone could answer(porsche588 perhaps) or anyone else that would be great thanks.

  • It should work fine so long as the voltage output of the wall sockets is the same. For instance here where I am they use 110 Volts however in England it's 220 Volts. So even if we used the same Type G plug if I were to take a time capsule made in America and try to use it in England it would be fried instantly.

  • Yeah wouldn't you have to buy some sort of converter/adapter for American electrical goods if I was to say use them in the UK. But I remember briefly somewhere that there is a few countries in Asia that have the same voltage and plug types as in the UK and so buying straight from there would be fine.

Though do you know if the internet will work with a cable modem here?

  • @CassettePlaya1 It should work with your cable modem.

  • Can u use it as a external hardrive and not just a backup?

  • yes you can...I use mine as both a back up drive and just for external storage. If you don't need or want a back up drive then you can use it just as external storage.

  • @porsche558 wait a minute so this shit is 1000 gb? wtf

  • 1000 GB is in fact = to 1 TB

  • Sorry to be picky or maybe I'm just wrong?! Isn't 1TB 1024GBs?

  • you are correct so really a 1 TB hard drive is more like a 1.024 TB hard drive.......but since that would sound kinda goofy they just say it's 1 TB.

  • Wow, that's an amazing statistic. Where did you get that number? Who performed the study that showed 92% of TC die????

  • didnt you need a dsl modem for this? what type of dsl modem do i need if dat?

  • If your going to use DSL for your internet connection then yes you will need a DSL modem. I use cable internet so I have a cable modem that I use with this router.

  • so does world like a router with anything? like a xbox ect?

  • Yes it will work with my wireless printers, my xbox 360, my wii and if I had one it would work with the PS3

  • Is it possible for the 360 to connect to the external storage of the time capsule wirelessly? Like if I were to save a movie on it and kept it at my room as a router would I be able to play the movie on the 360 from the living room?

  • is the wireless network speed stable and good enough??

  • the wireless is very stable and it's wireless Draft N so the speed is great If you use the wired ports you get 1000 mbps

  • lol 1 TB isnt enough. im getting this with my new macbook! now that i saw the review im getting it! ;-)

  • you won't be disappointed

  • As This video started I heard my time capsule spin up and do its hourly back up. hehe.

  • LOL!! cool

  • Would i be able to hook up a drobo to it with drobo share, without any problems.

  • Honestly I haven't worked with drobo raid storage enclosures before so I can't say for sure they would work with the time capsule.

  • How's the wireless coverage? Do you lose any signal going to different floors of the house? Does it get noisy and hot?

  • The wireless coverage is pretty good.....it is Draft N so it makes it through my house from the first floor to the second floor.

  • just 10 years ago we had 20GB HDD's and that was big....now just my iTunes library is 300GB. So what I said is accurate....it won't be long before 1 TB isn't enough space. I do hope you were kidding about your comment.

  • Thanks for the review. I will get one now. :)

  • So your not using the hard drive with Time Capsule. I bought the Time Capsule 500GB and plan on putting my iTunes Library on the TC internal hard drive. Did you notice better wireless connectivity since you got the Time Capsule?

  • actually I am using it to store my backup data for Apple time machine, and I did notice a difference in wireless connectivity, the signal is a lot stronger in the time capsule than it was in my old router.

  • can someone tell me if this will hook up to your internet provider router they give u also will u be able to hook ur ipod touch wirelessly to this and will it work for your xbox 360 wireless device?

  • The answer to all of those questions is yes. It acts just like a regular router. I have my (cable provider) router wired to it and my x-box 360 wirelessly connected and my iPhone on wireless with it. If you have a lot of technical questions feel free to subscribe to my channel. I do a lot of how to and review videos.

  • Wether you use it for Backup or your Media Files, I think your probablt Loving it about now. YES! Signal is Stable & Strong!

  • does your networked printer allow you to scan wirelessly as well? (if your printer also has a scanner, that is)

  • why yes it does. I have a Epson printer that has a flat bed scanner on it and it also faxes. I can scan a document to any computer in the house over the wireless network. If your looking for a product that does everything the Apple Time Capsule is the way to go.

  • could you use that usb to add another hard drive? and would the hard drive now be on the network? thanks for mentioning me!!!!!

  • yes you can

  • wow this is so awesome 5*

Hey you wrote "Recorded on March 10, 2009" that means in the future :D..that's even more awesome :D
