  • @mwowner12 "Btw most atheists never win in debates vs christian scholars.. get your facts straight"

depends who is judging these so called "debates" - obviously if it is a mostly chirstain audice they wont win.

But that is irrelvant since no truth is ever determined by debate -- did Einstien debate the theory of relativity

  • @mwowner12

go to "Debate Jewish rabbi vs Minister Christian" on youtube and see for uorsalf

  • isalm is a religion for all, i am christian, but i also beleive in the muslim religion,

islam is all of the prophets such as from the holy bible and the qur'an all the division of monotheistic religion creates anger, hate, and depression. islam is both sides to the same whole, i pray for all of my christian and muslim brothers because you do know the truth you just havent found it yet. inshallah

  • @nickmartini413 God bless you.

  • CHRISTIAN GO TO HELL - ENJOY YOUR NEW LIFE

  • Professor netwriter sounds like pedophile

  • @FallenDespair You must have some experience with pedophiles to make this claim.

  • @tomview1 you are going to fucking hell you fucking bitch i would like to fucking burn you alive for saying burn the bible.. I would enjoy to see you fucking burn alive fucking asshole moron

  • @MrMikethe13 wow sounds like your quite the cristian!! wake up and realize that your all being decieved jesus- morning sun satan- morning star 2 in the same.. mythology

  • @MrMikethe13 Loving to see someone being burned alive is hate. Hate is prove that your God is not real.

  • Fucking muslims i wanna kill them all .

  • @MrMikethe13 if you want to kill the muslims your also killing christians, i am catholic but muslims believe in christ too your probebly going to reply with anger but im just trying to explain why that comment is a little hypocritical. ps. all those muslims you see on the media that kill people are not true muslims just as the bible said "love thy neighbor" the qur'an says "if you are to kill one person, you might as well kill all" and goes on to explain murder is a sin to god.

  • it is impossible to have a rational debate with a reliegous person. They come from the position of delusion and flawed logic.

  • @srspower religious zealots are mostly uneducated...Imagine arguing that your belief in the 'un-knowable' is more accurate than anothers` belief in the 'un-knowable'. Craziness.

  • why is it not possible for people to enjoy their particular choice of faith without getting involved in constant tussles and theological arguments, is it not true that the person who lives out the precepts of their beliefs has more inner peace than the person who trys to"convert" or make others look foolish that disagree with them. whats wrong with diversity anyway? respect to ALL.

  • YOU ARE ALL FUCKED WITHOUT YOUR BOOKS!!!!!!!

THINK FOR YOURSELVES!!! BURN YOUR BIBLES - YOUR TORA- YOUR KORAN!!!!

    FREE YOURSELVES FROM RELIGIOUS SLAVERY!!!

    Anarchy for all!!!

  • If I might point out a logical fallacy of your own making: you make faith and reason to be diametric opposites in meaning. Faith is believing in something without complete and total proof. For example, you have faith that I won't jarate you (TF2 FTW!). But you cannot prove that I will or won't jarate you. What you can do is infer, by reasoning, from evidence you have observed, that I will or won't jarate you.

THAT, sir, is faith. And for my red herring, very nice video. TY!

  • this is some love making music

  • You made a mistake at the argument from authority. The problem is when the authority figure is consulted in an outside of his/her expertise. You don't go to your accountant for advice on how to raise your kids and you don't go to an educator for advice on bookkeeping. But the other way around is a possible viable approach.

  • More than 20 million christian converts islam .. and there is no single Muslim convert Christian.???? JUST ask your self >>(( WHY)) just Read about islam then you well know

  • @Zz1o You're dumb man, theres been plenty of muslim converts. Don't believe everything another muslim tells you dumb ass.

  • @Zz1o You are a fucking imbecile and your prophet is a pigfucking babyraper.

  • @Zz1o where are you getting this information from? you own fantasies? and your argument fails. many germans became nazis, many africans became slaves, many people joined the church of the flying spaghetti monster...and many uneducated people will support your comment. and this "proves" what...?

  • Good! You decided to use logic. Now any ordinary Muslim scholar can tear u down in a matter of minutes.

Just tell me where and when did Jesus state that he is the son of God and then prove the authenticity of this statement.

  • @ranamuhammadatif Do you even know what an atheist is, you pig-eating son of a whore?

  • They're called "Muslims" not Islamicsts by the way. I'm a Muslim and just wanted to thank you for the good video.

  • Q. How do you know when a Muslim has been in your back yard?

    A. Your garbage is gone and your goat is pregnant.

  • Another great video by Netwriter.

  • ""The most glaring shortcoming I have noticed is that, few if any, understand the art of debate or what a logical fallicy is. You don't seem to understand that the crap you hear in your places of worship will not win a debate with an educated 9th grader.""

    WIN.

  • He is God, of the Substance of the Father, begotten before the worlds: and He is Man, of the substance of His Mother, born in the world;

    Perfect God and perfect Man: of a reasonable soul and human flesh subsisting;

Equal to the Father, as touching his Godhead: and inferior to the Father, as touching his Manhood. He ascended into heaven, He sitteth on the right hand of the Father, God Almighty: from whence He shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

  • Hilarious that you brought up the argument from authority while displaying pictures of prominent atheists in your video. In addition, you take a swipe at the video production skills of Christians and Muslims (a blatant ad hominim) after having produced one of the silliest-looking videos I have encountered to date. One thing you have yet to learn about debate, good professor, is that the outcome of any debate is debatable.

  • Oh please Netwriter. what pompous arrogance. lack of debating skills? logical fallacies? isn't logical fallacies a contradiction in terms? and found nowhere in philosophy or logic? when an obvious bias is introduced into the equation, how can you already assume that anything you build on this would be valid?

  • religion is always wrong..a book written bij people has no value to backup statemens about whatsoever.

btw..dont come up with crap..as ..its written in vers ..:..

  • @robot014 that is just "your opinion"

  • @Jiannamarie1 religious people are very sick in theitr head...

    and dangerous faschists.

  • Well actually I belive that I debate pretty well. And I have never made a fool of myself. Allah is never wrong, the Quran is perfect and Muhammed (pbuh) is never lied about.

    thank you very much.

  • this was a reply message to froogle333

  • what if evelution is gods way of creating humans

  • im a christian thus i dont believ mohammed or the Quran but i think we should all respect eachothers religion

  • ya but u guys believe in jesus as lord jesus never said "i am lord worship" but u still do everything in the bible is made by humans and sayings from like from john or paul they say all these things about jesus but never met him they make testamonies that they think according to some else. do u know how many times the bible has changed u cant change gods rule and expect to thinks its ok the Quran hasnt been changed even once nothing u can read different bibles that say different things

  • @froogle333 well i dont believe in your bible or sayin jesus is god? or his son? wait a minute im confused holy spirit was it which one is it?.

  • ad hommenem bitch

  • Nice Video..

  • LOL This video is really good. May I use it in my channel page main video so people can get some foundations in debate?

    5 Stars! :)

  • Mohammed can suck my dick

  • Can you just stfu and live your life and a disbeliever? Try reach the top of this system and when you there then try see if you can feel emptiness within you.UNTIL THEN STFU OKAY? btw you gay.

  • You stfu you dirty muslim fag.

Why dont you go pray to your fake allah box and tell him how your fucking mother blew up.

You're entitled to your opinon so dont fucking mind me when i say "Mohammed can suck my dick" cuz whatever you say wont change shit.

Btw, i dont hate muslims, i actually like them i take my other comment back.

  • If you a man and saying that a man should suck your cock then you gay(fact) if you regret saying then you not a gay. And btw if you say bad thing to Mohammad you saying bad thing to us all that's the brotherhood of Islam. And before you yell more at Muslims go seek a Imam or a siehr and let them tell you what islam offers instead of believe in what a hater have told you.

  • @PinoySoshi hey watch your mouth you fucking pig what the fuck "i actually like them" are you kidding me you phillipino bastard

i like to hear that in person you coward.

  • @LotBountyHunter Sure, ill say it to you in person you ugly fuck.

I'd kick your ass if I met you, you faggot.

I wrote that comment a month ago, so relax.

  • hahah i dont think so you little shit faced phillipino fucker i'll step on you like a cockroach.

  • @LotBountyHunter Uhhhhh

  • why is it always christians or muslims that argue and try to save n convert people, why dont jews do the same thing since they believe in the same god

  • @hades1234567 Good Question, I think they feel God will notice, and give them extra credit.

  • Because Jews say you can only be born as a Jew can you see the problem o.O ?

  • who does this guy think he is?

  • I have to remember red herring, I usually let people get away with it too often.

  • I just wonder if MY Jesus is reading YOUR Fallicies at the same time I caught them.

  • DUDE GREAT VIDEO 5 STARS!!! sorry for caps but DAMN! GOOD VIDEO! :)

  • It would be sad if it never happens, but I know that you'll give up religion as many people are; you'll stop believing in "God" for the same reason that a child stops believing in Santa Claus - it's a natural part of becoming a complete Human Being instead of a serf to a non-existent deity.

    Until then,

    Peace :-)

  • Keep up the good work, subscribe to my channel. I'll be posting some video's son that youll no doubt enjoy.

  • God will not judge either of us because he doesn't exist, except in your head. You are delusional if you believe in god; but I know that one day you will leave the chains of religion behind and join the Human Race. When you do, mwowner12, I'll be waiting to greet you as one person to another with no delusions standing between us.

    Peace.

  • Jesus may have died for you, but he can go fuck himself as far as I'm concerned. I was not born in "sin". You may want to carry that guilt around, but don't dump it on other people. Religious half-wit!

  • know this jesus christ died 4 ur sins

  • yeh but ur moms a whore

  • "the only person who is a fool is the one who clams that others are fools"

I dont get the logic. If someone said World War 2 happened 1700 and i call him a fool it's actually me who is a fool?

most atheist never win? where do u get that from?

  • So many conspiracy theorists use these fallacies too...

  • Can any Muslim explain why the Muslims are in the dark ages today in science ?

  • Same reason science slowed-down considerably during the "dark ages". Scientific development was kept for religious use only, that's why manly religious architecture and art moved forward, while the rest of society languished. Although Islam is over 800 years late, we've had arches and archways forever now.

  • "Jesus has the right to Call people fools... for he died for them..."

    Special pleading?

"unlike you what have you done to help Humanity"

The video you are commenting for one thing. Try learn something from it. I think it would do you good.

  • "the only person who is a fool is the one who clams that others are fools" - mwowner12

Matt.23:17 and Luke 11:40 Jesus calls people fools. So is our christian scholar (oxymoron) mwowner12 calling Jesus a fool? Yes, it appears he is. Good work there brain trust.

  • @Netwriter

Jesus did not claim anyone was a fool.

Give me the name of one SPECIFIC person that Jesus called a fool.

    You can't.

  • @GroovyCatProductions No you're right.. he didn't call one specific person a fool, he called the majority of the earth so...

  • @mythical13 If Jesus called one person or group a fool please inform me.

Give me a name of a person or of a group.

  • @Netwriter :P...read again that..n u will get what does mean that..

  • it's not the body doing what you want it to do, because i don't think that 74 people stayed there willingly for 3 hours embracing God, especially since most of them are children n children don't have that kind of patience. I use to not believe in God even though i grew up in a Christian home, but the proof that brought me to the knees of jesus was feeling the holy spirit descend on us, if you are doubtful f God, i doubt that you have felt his presence, because you would be a believer right now.

  • plus energy has always existed, it's a scientifically accepted fact. matter hasn't always existed, it was stated by stephan hawkins himself.

  • if you read the Bible (start in the New Testament, the Gospel of John, try the King James Version or get help from a local bible believing Church) and pray humbly to God the Father for truth , he will help you to understand and give you knowledge and revelation. The Bible is not a mystical book, but it was given by the Holy Spirit so that we can have the truth about God, identity, eternity and how to live properly in THIS life Read the Gospel of the Apostle John first. John is the son of Mary

  • Gibble gobble.

  • at least try to be mature, so shut up if your gonna be stupid

  • Its a phrase used to describe utter bullshit. The comment system allows use to conduct ourselves in any way we wish, you do not personally decide such matters. I may regard your beliefs as stupid, But you don't see me telling you to 'shut up.'

  • you don't see me saying your beliefs are b.s. so just try to be considerate.

  • Thats because I don't hold a ridiculous one in this case.

  • it was cool but the idea of God is a separate aganda from this god or that god or anything worshipped beyond truth n reason

  • Great vid, but if they believe in god they can't believe in logic. Logic cancels god out.

  • Nice! ;)

  • nope, there is logic behind God

  • the only logic that supports god is faulty logic. Logic is a man made model for our concept of reality, if you claim logic can prove god then you circumvent reality and concentrate on faith and emotion. while emotions can be considered real, they have no mass or energy, therefor they have no base of evidence for any god. Feelings are non corporeal and are really just a higher developed form of instinct, nature rules, not any god.

  • wrong again, there is actual logic that there is an inteligent creator of the universe, in other words a God. the big bang sorta supports this, and object remains at rest until an outside force acts upon it, so the big cluster of matter that started the universe couldn't have exploded by itself unless an enormous amount of energy went into it. that leaves 2 possibilities, one, that mindless, raw, energy created the universe, or 3, that a intelligent form of energy created it, God

  • straw man. sorry, you just dont understand the rules of argument or logic.

  • i'm just making you see that you aren't always right. in an argument, u have to be open to both ends of the argument, u can't be bias. anyways, there is proof to go on either side of the argument, so the scale is balanced, it's debaters' job to tip the scale. now present your case, proof and facts, ad then we can have a real argument.

  • That is the problem. You seem to think that illogical pseudo intellectual double-talk is proof. It isn't. The hypothesis of a god has never shown any evidence to be true. Ever. So to believe in something that has no evidence to support it, is foolish and delusional. And what scale are you talking about?

Theists claim something that has no evidence. So I dont believe it. Unless you meen Belief in god is on one side and sanity is on the other. I think sanity wins that one.

  • Evidence? look around you, in places you don't expect, God manifest. in Africa little children have encounters with God, i know it's not very convincing to use personal experiences in a debate, but when you truly r in the presence of God, there is a moment when there is peace in your heart, time passes around you as you have this wonderful feeling.

  • Seeing things that you "want" to see and seeing what is actually there are 2 different things, feelings are not evidence, neither is self hypnosis leading to delusions. And I think you will find that children have something called an imagination, you start plugging in a bunch of god nonsense into it and you get "personal revelations" or crap , as I like to call it, and tell me how many of these children were malnourished or of an age that would make them susceptible to suggestion.Hmmmmm.

  • I know, and we saw what was there, not just wat we wanted to see. actually, not much of them were malnourished. most of them came from good homes and stuff. I knew most of the kids cuz i had the wonderful chance of getting to know them. the ages were from 5,which might be susceptible, and 16, which ain't that susceptible, it happened to just about everyone, so that rules out the possibility that because of their age.

  • Oh ya a teenager that goes with the group, thats just unheard of.Durr.

  • @alianchild then you dont know islam

  • awesome!

    May God Bless YOU

  • This was very informative; I only have one problem: The word LOSE only has 1 'O', the word you're using means, 'not form fitting',

e.g. "I lost a lot of weight and now my pants are loose." Otherwise, well done.

  • Ad hominem and argument from authority are not always fallacies.

  • Google logical fallacies, hit im feeling lucky, your wrong. sorry.

  • Google the definition of debate, and the definition of evidence... and hit yourself ;).

Ad hominem is not a fallacy when a person's character is the premise of an argument. Arguments of authority are only fallacies when the argument rests on the fact they are an authority, not when that person uses their expertise to verify something.

  • This is from your own source:

"The reason why an Ad Hominem is a fallacy is that the character, circumstances, or actions of a person do not (IN MOST CASES) have a bearing on the truth or falsity of the claim being made."

"In most cases" means "not always" Therefor, ad hominem is not always a fallacy.

  • Another from the same source:

"This fallacy is committed when the person in question is not a legitimate authority on the subject."

According to this video, an arguement from aurity does NOT exclude experts. Therefor, arguements from authority as defined by this video are not always fallacies.

  • *you're

  • Common mistake I try not to make.

  • --- :D ---

  • Great video.

The problem with debates is that--from both sides--people are trying to attack a single aspect of the other's standpoint, hoping to win that singular point and thus debunking the entire argument. People need to understand that each side has many, many aspects why people should or should not believe. Then they need to figure out which stance makes more sense collectively before they make a decision.

  • With all the propose so-called wise ways to argue--no wonder Christ said,"Believe in Me"two thousand years ago!

  • Wow ok

you Christians are so fucking wrong

you just called a aesthetics a scum bag?

all of you believe in a invisible man in the sky

why not believe in the sun as a god?

at least it provides for you unlike God

what the fuck is the matter with you

    fuckin nerominded asshole

you should be sent to jail for fucking live...your no different than Jim Jones

  • Great video.

Technically, "christians" do not debate. A debate is usually between two equally informed people, with equally valid viewpoints.

    It usually happens this way:

We talk, they listen. We have the facts, they don't. We know how the universe works, and how reality is, while "christians" were brainwashed into a simplistic fictional worldview by the jesus-cult.

  • i don't like the 1st paragraph here; attacking the person instead of the argument is ad hominem, common among darwinists. but they DON'T listen either, they IGNORE the SOME facts science has and use fallcies of their own like circular reasoning. both parties have some beliefs (CHristians more so) but have SOME facts (Scientists more so) and both have MANY FALLACIES.

  • btw when i said they don't listen, i meant most Chrsitians. also i don't wana start an evolution debate, i still believe in evolution, but not darwin's concept cause much of it is disproven/illogical. just view the video/links within it on my page to see what i mean and do what you will. i won't reply to argue, but to be fair if you do it on my page having heard it out, ill try.

  • The bandwagon fallacy is the one I hear a lot.

This is true with aliens having visited/are now visiting our planet. Many people have said they've experienced this so it must be true. Back in the times people believed in witches people would swear up & down that so & so flew by on a broom. Most people don't believe this today. People report all kinds of things. The truth is we don't know whether alien life exists or not. The same is true w/ God.

  • darwinian evolution depends on RANDOM actions at the GENETIC level; natural selection is supposed to depend on non random selection. ITS BOTH, according to darwin; both disproved, as pointed out in my religion 2/darwinian evolution video.

  • If you think natural selection is random you obviously don't understand it. How is the selection of favorable characteristics because they are beneficial random?

  • nice strawmen attempt but again wtf r u talkin about natural selection is NOT random but darwin thinks GENETIC changes like mutations are. i dont believe in darwinism anymore cause the research shows its UNFACTUAL, illogical, and DISPROVEN. do NOT comment otherwise till you seen my video/links showing what i (and half the world) found. ill await comments there ONLY to be fair. btw earth IS billions years old, ONLY that is factual/Christians are confused on but don't trust "scientists' otherwise

  • It wasn't a straw man attempt. I misunderstood your comment because of the way your paragraph was worded. Is there a need to be so condescending? Of course I know that genetic mutations are random but genetic variety is not solely due to mutation.

  • i said this both times; darwin presumes "GENETIC changes like mutations are (random)." i said LIKE,i know about other changes LIKE recombonation, ALL genetic changes darwinists claim as RANDOM but they could be caused by a God, its their BELIEF, not science. dont call me condescending, i hate word twisting. btw you won't even bother to listen and comment ON my video AFTER you saw it/the LINKS disproving darwinism, yet you argue like i used to. i shouldn't reply but just letting u know 1 las time

  • Since you're going to insist on being rude I will be rude as well. I just stated that I misread your statement and what do you do? Act like I'm an idiot. I tried to watch your video but I couldn't understand half of it because you talk like you type. Like a mentally retarded child. The few points you brought up in your video can be easily refuted with new theories that build upon Darwin's original theory.

  • there is no god, you worthless retard. :)

  • FINALLY some1 says what i have been thinking! i hate these fallacys. though i believe in God and respect bona fide religions, but i hate these fallacies! had i seen this i'd not need to make my video! thanks. btw hope you allow my video reply; i found atheists make much fallacies after i read up on darwinian evolution that besides half life dating, its not a fact but an argument with holes confronted with higher logic.

  • ARGUMENT AD BACULUM = That was a new one to me, Netwriter, but one that I've come across from Christians many times! Now I know what to call it.

Thanks for the edumacation and keep up the great vids.

    Turan

    ...

  • Begging the question IS circular reasoning. They're the same thing.

  • I never realized it fully until now, but you aren't really trying to attack Christ Followers, you actually are trying to help us. You are of honorable intention, but it's hard for me to accept that when we don't see eye to eye. That's a major problem in us Chritians, we are too offense with God. And your videos are right when they say we are conceited and brutal. I wish we could turn our ways into a good direction, all of the time, and not do all these evil things... Thanks Netwriter.

  • i really like the music. and the intro was hilarious. very good.

  • Do you know what is hilarious, I just so happen to be a atheist freshman in high school, from what I've seen, I know more about evolution, religion, logic, abiogenesis and the start of the universe. Though I believe I'm more politically active than most ninth graders. On the ad populum argument, wasn't socrates executed by democratic processes. Illiberal democracy, the majority wasn't right to kill him because he was just speaking out.

  • that's why pure democracies are avoided in favor of a republic that uses democratic processes.

  • Yes, but isn't that just putting all of the power into the ruling class and the bourgeois? I'm not Marxist but, I believe in a direct democracy, actually no, most people are idiots, I don't want to see them actually represented.

  • most people being idiots is why a direct democracy isn't good. having them represented may only mirror the voting constituency's idiocy, but at least there's another step between the people and the action or law that is made. the reason this is required is because people need to know how to operate in gov. most people don't know that. so reps are needed to know what capabilities they have in order to do something. instead of just doing something without having a clue what it will need/cause.

  • ...not only that, but the minority, the 49%'ers would be totally screwed over if the 51%'ers thought they shouldn't have any rights at all. that's why we have a constitution that establishes inalienable rights that can NOT be argued by mere majority rule nor cancelled out by amendment. it can only be added to, not revamped. however, with a big terror attack conveniently awarding a president power wherever the fuck he wants, anything is possible of course.

  • The fallacies run wild at church- I really started realizing it after I became atheist.

The last time I went to church, this Easter, the pastor said how ridiculous it is to think that Jesus didn't rise from the dead. His proof: Bible verses.

He said how the disciples wouldn't have died for a lie. His proof of their martyrdom? "Tradition." That is, apocryphal books not good enough to be part of the bible, and nothing else.

    But my favorite non-sequitur:

    Evolution is wrong.

    Jesus is Lord!

  • I was just debating a fundie who had posted some violent Quranic verses.

I posted some nearly identical Bible verses to show how his religion also has violent elements.

He then painted me as a communist, pothead, immoral Islam-loving atheist. He asked me how I could justify Muhammed's violence.

    I said that I can't and I don't.

He then named some bad atheists and how I am evil for being atheist. He bragged about how Christians abolished slavery (by other Christians!).

    Total strawman/non sequitur.

  • hey Netwriter

    loved your video

  • What a well-executed, educational video. Thank you!

  • A+ Buddy!

  • If the theists throw out the logical fallacies, they have nothing left.

  • Scumbag atheist?

  • Scumbag theists who enjoy the thought of other people suffering for not accepting there faith? For only caring about this life enough to get them by in the next? Or what about claiming the right to be a racist pig, beat women, or be willfully ignorant because your holy text says it's ok?

  • theists? avoid fallacies?

    you MUST be joking!

  • ¡Bravo!

  • Great vid. Ive seen a some of those terms slung around you-tube, and to be honest.. I didn't know what they meant, particularly the latin ones. So thanks for that.

  • "If I can't explain how the universe is expanding, then I can appeal to authority by letting them know I've read that science has good evidence for it in a popular science magazine. It is not a fallacy, but can be a questionable appeal to authority."

It is not an appeal to authority. It is if anything an appeal to evidence. The person's opinion does not matter only what they have proven. you referring them to a science magazine is just that, a referral to where the evidence is written.

  • As some people rely blindly on faith, u rely blindly on logic

    what is logic ?

what makes you believe that logic gives u all the truth

in addition logic is relative so which 1 do u use, ur logic ? common logic ?

as for sufferin in the world, god already created the perfect world : the angel world, every1 there is happy and every1 is worshiping god properly. Our world however is not intended to be perfect, we were given the choice in our lives

  • lol, you have a problem understanding what logic is, and you pretend it's a "faith" automatically.

So, people even worship properly, when they murder in the name of their lord?

  • "what is logic ?"

    Valid reasoning.

"what makes you believe that logic gives u all the truth"

This is begging the question & a loaded question. Watch the video again.

"in addition logic is relative so which 1 do u use, ur logic ? common logic ?"

    Another loaded question.

"god already created the perfect world: the angel world"

Then why did a bunch of angels rebel and god had to cast them out of heaven? It seems your god just can't get it right. Two creations and two screw ups.

  • excellent amazing video!

  • Great take on them logical fallacies!

Whew, never thought about how many of them there are!

  • I was thinking of making a vid this this myself, nice job. Hopefully this will make theist/non-theists debates a little more sporting.

Going into a debate without being aware of these fallacies is like trying to pick up a watermelon seed with boxing gloves on.

Good on you for helping balance the scales.

  • Clear, concise, excellent. You forgot to mention the abhorrent practice of quote mining but that is still not enough of a flaw to give you anything less than five stars.

  • Argumentam ad consequentiam has to be the most infuriating and frequent of fallacies theists use.

"if there were no God, then there's no ultimate accountability and anybody could do whatever they want."

"if there's no God then life is meaningless."

"if evolution is true then we're just monkeys."

    etc, etc, etc ad nauseam.

  • That moment with the "not knowing about the reply button" is what gets me mad about Christians here on youtube. Nephillimfree LIED to me claiming he doesn't use it "because it's ugly"... wrong, he likes to pretend he "owned" somebody when he has no clues about debating.

  • Excellent video! It's amazing, I have come across just about every

one of these by religious people. 5 stars and favorited.

  • if you like this one, check out extantdodo's video on the same subject

  • great video

  • It's 'lose' and not 'loose', by the way.

  • "Appeal to authority" I think is valid if it is expert opinions on the subject. "Einstein proved time is another dimension" is valid appeal to authority. He is a physicist and his work has been peer-reviewed. "Einstein was a deist" is not valid. Nothing suggest he knows any better what is the "first cause" (or if there is one) than anyone else.

  • "Einstein proved time is another dimension" is valid because he had proven it not because he claimed it

  • It is still an appeal to authority. It isn't a fallacy to appeal to authority if the authority has the expertise in the field.

  • the difference is, you should appeal to the evidence that the authority presents not the fact that he simply IS an authority. For instance, Einstein also thought that the universe wasn't expanding but had no evidence to back up his claim; so if you said "the universe is not expanding because Einstein said so" that's an appeal to authority. But if you said "Edwin Hubble proved that the universe is expanding and here's how..." then that's not a logical fallacy.

  • Yes of course. Appeal to authority can be both relevant, questionable or irrelevant. And when the last mentioned, it is considered a fallacy.

  • If I can't explain how the universe is expanding, then I can appeal to authority by letting them know I've read that science has good evidence for it in a popular science magazine. It is not a fallacy, but can be a questionable appeal to authority.

  • For every day life- you can defer to the top scientists all you want. But in a formal debate, if you don't understand why the universe is expanding, then you should take the position that you don't know. Even if all the scientists thought something was true, that doesn't make it true.

Remember the Michelson--Morley experiment? At the time many scientists thought that there was a luminiferous aether in the sky but had no proof. So even if every scientist thinks something is true, it may not be.

  • I think my point is:

Appeal to the authorities evidence, not his name.

  • I did not speak of what is good and bad arguments but what is fallacious arguments and what is not. And I say all appeals to authority is not fallacious. Another such argument that isn't fallacious is "We shouldn't steal, because it is against the law"

  • Would a ad hominem be..

"OH you just don't believe s,o you can live in a sinful life!"

    Would a non sequitor be..

"The std rate rose after prayer was taking out of school.. therefore we need to put it back in school" When in reality, the birth control pill was made the same year?

  • [Would a ad hominem be..

"OH you just don't believe s,o you can live in a sinful life!"]

No, it is probably an unfounded psychological evaluation of the opponent, but it depends on the context of course.

  • This video is an epic win.

  • Pretty good explanation, but it starts off badly.

'Put briefly, ad hominem is "You are an ignorant person, therefore your arguments are wrong", and not "Your arguments are wrong, therefore you are an ignorant person." The latter statement may be fallacious, but it's not an ad hominem fallacy.'

Insults etc may be rude, but are not a fallacy unless used to dismiss an opponent's argument.

Google "ad hominem plover" for a funny article about hwo people misuse ad-hominem.

  • I read the whole article... I recommend it to everyone too. The more people who reads it, the less ad hominem fallacy fallacies on the net :)

  • Aw, that's no fair. Now the theists will have no arguments left to use!
