  • spierdzielać brudy, polska górą!

  • KDE 4 <3

  • Maybe another thing to try in getting people to try BSD is maybe not to come across as a snickering teenager that looks down on everyone and laughs like the world is full of retards.

  • 9 people use Linux

  • Gnome does not suck.

    I like Gnome.

That speaker does not know what he is talking about.

After saying the negative things that he said about Gnome, he has lost all creditability to me.

  • @jcii2 lol, did you really stop the video the second he said that? Maybe you should have continued watching for a few seconds.^^

  • @jcii2 Yeah, I love gnome! But anyone who says "X sucks" in computerland lacks understanding that ... everything has its strengths and weaknesses and pros and cons, and very few softwares actually "suck" (malware sucks, viruses suck, lots of ad-driven crap sucks, but Windows, BSD, Linux, all kick ass in their own way).

  • i love how bsd came from a school 2 hours away from me

  • PC-BSD is waaayyy behind GNU/Linux atm...

Ease of use in pc-bsd? keep dreaming get it stable first!

  • Same old story .. bsd vs linux.. idiots...

PC-BSD sucks as default install .. no drivers, stupid default interface..

  • Comment removed

  • I had tried PCBSD 7 and then 8.0. Poor in sound and graphic drivers. The installation with some basic programs takes longer than most of the Linux distro. It is sad to say PCBSD is not yet ready for any casual user like me. Of course a graphic installer may be a new thing to BSD folks, but it has been here with us a long long time ago, particularly in Linux world. Ubuntu or Mint or OpenSUSE is much better and easy to use. Thanks.

  • gnome sucks!

  • GNOME rules I like it way better than KDE ... He is wrong Gnome does not suck it is used by way my people than KDE ... Plus I think KDE looks like it was made for a 12 year old girl it looks very feminine... KDE also look more like a Mobile device OS and not a real desktop OS...

  • they hate the linux* not not wanting to buy a new computer

  • Seeing how this is 2 years ago, im wondering what PC-bsd look and feels like now. I currently have a few computers in my parents house that are linux because there computers just cant run windows anymore, and they dont want to buy a new computer yet and they hate it. This is more of a windowsie feel. does any one know how it is now?

  • @WaffleEgo Because in order to have learned appropriate English usage, they would need to have gone to school. ;)

  • What does the word he says at the beginning of the presentation mean?

  • i found it and since then i am following the development until i can jump onto it when my hardware gets supported

  • cześć

  • im just experimenting on os's anny tips, i meen Anny other os i can try?

already tried Linux, and windows. :)

  • kde4 is way too visually distracting for me....

  • PC-BSD Made me look at the BSD's from Linux and I didn't not like the idea. However, I think PC-BSD has a long way to go still. It is still buggy in some parts and it really does not have the drivers for most PC hardware. Also it runs much, much slower than a comparable Linux distro installed on the same hardware. I hope the PC-BSD team keeps up the good work. PC-BSD may be good with time.

  • Really? bsd is so much better than linux? as far as stability, thats a big MAYBE, but bsd barely has a desktop version set up, this PCBSD barely even has support for wireless controlling via gui, nor does it have a stable application updater? your hating on linux and yet we're ahead of you on basically every single aspect? I'm sorry im not trying to hate on anyone, i like the idea of BSD but all the crap bsd flings at linux is annoying, especially since its inferior in every way.

  • @CJay554 While I agree with you on the crap-flinging, I think "and yet we're a head of you on basically every single aspect" is an incorrect comment. While Linux is _much_ further ahead than BSD in GUI tools, (which makes sense if you consider that the BSDs were/are designed with servers in mind) if you look at things like the Networking stacks I think you might find that BSD is superior in some areas.

  • Pouco conhecido... estou baixando para ver como e que e =D

  • this is stupid dude!!! why are you running Mac Os x in that machine even myself I've intalled an Opensouce Os in my macs and I'm not an expert like you

  • Linux is ahead in terms of technology, but FreeBSD is more stable in terms of API.

Linux probably won't crash, but drivers from even like 3 versions back usually don't compile.

  • @TSHNOFX I can agree with you on that.

  • Linux is ahead in deciding to do something one way, then changing it five minutes later.

  • Interesting :)

  • I was trying out PC-BSD and Ubuntu linux and some linux distribution and of corse windows.

Ubuntu linux is very better like PC-BSD and all linux distribution (open suse, fedor) I'm was use.

    So my favorit is

    1.Ubuntu

    2.windows xp sp3

3.Windows 7 (No...No.. I'm don't like the Microsoft by cose it is a fucking big monopol, but I'm like the modern windows)

And don't forget Gnome and linux is not suck!!!!

(Sorry the pronatiation I'm not so good englis)

  • Actually KDE is just desktop and FreeBSD is operating system. You can install many windows managers (kde, gnome, sawfish, etc.) on FreeBSD just as on any Linux.

  • I have an old windows 98 computer in the closet and was thinking of installing KDE on it but a friend recommended BSD any thoughts on what I need to do? I just want to do it to entertain myself and have an alternative pc that is usable as windows 98 is virtually useless.

  • KDE takes up too much memory for a computer that old. BSD is a bit hard to install and harder to use. I would suggest using Xubuntu for your old computer. It's fast and lightweight.

  • Its GEE-NOME

  • @thescreamingfish

    No, it's /ˈɡnoʊm/

  • Gnome doesn't suck, Olander!

  • Would someone care to explain to a fairly competent Linux user why BSD is the OS of choice?

  • No, just try it and see which one you like better. An opinion is different to every person.

  • Its a matter of choice, I find BSD to be a bit faster and MUCH more stable, it also has a nice "feel" to it if you know what I mean. Pc-BSD is more user friendly I find but FreeBSD is a bit more configurable

  • Well then I guess I'll try it out the next time I get bored.

  • @anon47 It is not linux is still way ahead of it.

  • you mean behind.

  • Where can I get the image at 2:04? I want that for my desktop wallpaper.

  • KDE is okay. Gnome is horrible. But Openbox is the best WM of all time.

  • linux looks better

  • I think that Apple has just build another X System on FreeBSD, light or heany doesn't matter.

  • Gnome is better than KDE, by a big margin.

  • I liked KDE 3.x just fine. KDE 4 is epic fail though.

  • You shouldn't have said that, you don't know how much fail KDE4 is !!! I loved kde3 but when I tried KDE4 I couldn't even figure out how to do the easiest things!! I tried to use it for over a month and it just got worse and worse! I'm never trying it again, I'm still using kde3 with gentoo which is painful with all the masked and updated packages! ITS A LOT OF WORK :D

  • I think it took me about ten minutes to hate and uninstall KDE4.

  • @Yerzriknot yes, me too

  • @Yerzriknot window + macos = kde 4. buggy and shinny unnecessarily

  • @Yerzriknot couldnt agree more...why they did it- and even more- why they stuck with the kame duck is beyond me..

  • @Yerzriknot yeah i really like konqueror, but dolphin has replaced it.

  • Czesc! I was going to do my presentation in Polish, but this is the only word that I know. So I have to do this in English.

  • Did he go to full FreeBDS on that Mac, or leave it as a Mac - wow, 20 minutes of this stuff - amazing!

  • Can I install pc bsd on my old 2.8 ghz celeron 256 mb ddr ram laptop.

  • yes... but man you will take it out quick

unless you run it without X or manage to install another lighter window manager (by lighter I mean nearly minimal) kde will make your life miserable

  • Yes you can, but, as usual recompile the kernel and delete the unncessary drivers and other stuuf that you don't need, I know it's geek talking.

  • 1. The specs are fine. But if I were you I'd switch to a lighter weight. DE like Fluxbox. KDE would run like shit on anything less then a gig of ram.

    2. The Achillies heel of *BSD is wifi card drivers. You should google your model and see if others have had trouble before you even bother.

  • Under the FreeBSD i cannot watch ANY vids on this site, im VERY curious WHY that is so, obviously its nothing to do with the actual OS, its the "admins" on this site...

    *Open Source 4 Life*

  • i prefer ubuntu but every OS (except mac) have their advantages

  • That's true every OS has advantages, except OS X

  • OS X is build on FreeBSD you know

  • True!!!...but is "light" version of freeBSD, because of "light" is not as good as freeBSD.

  • It's built on NetBSD ;)

  • pc bsd is stuck in 32bit so i dont thin it is a good idea to use it.

PS: it is good for old pc only

  • wow. This is complete bullshit. You can install a 64 bit version! No problem!

''PS: it is good for old pc only'' I dont know what you are talking about. If this were mostly for old computers, they would not have put KDE4 as desktop environment by default, i can tell you that my friend.

  • it is based unix with 36bit extension(the last last version that was released with pentium pro, however intel switch to NT system)....since unix had been stuck with that 36bit extension for years(the limit of unix) i really dont think any of develop team can able to code x64 application. beside the only original x86-64/EM64T technology holder were intel/amd/microsoft/hp and nvidia and the 64bit ONLY available in NT platform which does not support all unix based application.

  • how the hell did we start talking about God on a BSD video?

  • What an unfunny faggot :|

  • 2:53

  • i think my desktop computer operating system is broen so im gonna swich to this

  • What the fuck i dont even

  • *Open Source 4 Life* cuss it IS the future

  • PC-BSD is great!

  • and Linux and FreeBSD suks! Windows 7 rules!

  • I've been trying to start this fucking system for 4 hours unsuccessfully.

I had been using Linux, but it hasn't pleased me.

Now I use Windows 7 and I'm happy.

  • But W7 needs a very good graphic card, it still being unstable, with viruses, etc.

    But for games windows rules.

  • just run virtual pc with xp and leave windows 7 as a idle host os. but all you have to do is increase as much ram as possible (8gb ddr3 1366 is recommanded) and good processor (core 2 ex6800 or corei7 920 or above....dont get quad version core 2 it sucks in performance...) at least i made my vista in idle mode while using xp pro to avoid many of stupid issue on vista/7.

  • there are 1366??, i saw 1066 or 1333 or 1666, but 1366 i haven't.

But, a core2 ex are hard to get, and a core i7 too expensive...I'd like probably stay on vista till w7 get stable. I said that w7 need a very good graphic card to see it adequate.

  • lol sry my bad! it is ddr3 1066mhz since 1333 havent been on stock in local store yet.

core 2 ex can be found in amazon and micro center, radio shock, compusa. if not go with pentium dual core which it also has decent performance as well. and graphic card just go with geforce 96000 you'll be ok.

  • Yeap!..but core 2 ex it's expensive too (there are a bit of them). Beside I prefer AMD a Phenom II X2 costs the same of a Pentium and works better =). With the graphic card I'm looking for a GTX 260 or Radeon HD4870 (in deed I prefer ATi because in my personal experiences nvidia fails, not always but it does =S)

  • You are my twin

  • Hahaha, really?

  • I've seen you spammers around, bitching about OSes that actually RUN THE INTERNET YOU'RE USING NOW, and pushing the new garbage Microsoft has.

  • You're wrong. I'm not publishing the "new Microsoft garbage". I just use it. I would say that this OS isn't easy to install and first use. Maybe this OS made for real users but not for the wide community.

  • Ubuntu is one of the most user friendly OSes on the market today, according to all the polls.

  • I know nothing about Ubuntu. I want to have free easy install system. But for the present time, systems exist not free or not friendly.

  • Right, so I just pointed out a Linux distro, and you just brush it off and continue to lie. Ubuntu can be installed from WINDOWS for fucks sakes, it's called a WUBI install. Ubuntu * com, it's pretty simple. Google is your friend. I'm on 7 RC (not a full version, it doesn't currently exist. Only an unstable version) and Ubuntu is far better.

  • Tell me please, who do you work as?

  • Wait, what? Who do I work as? What are you asking me?

  • Sorry for my bad English =)

Some my friends, who lashes Windows, work in computer sphere. The rest use Windows without a doubt. Understand?

I want to say that person who wish to install any OS (Lin, BSD), have to speak English well. If you don't - use Win. I work as a truck mechanic, so speak English not well (technical English a little), it is very hard to me to install these OSes, except Win.

  • Then you're in luck. Ubuntu is installable and usable in around 40 languages, and I noticed that one of them is in fact similar to what language is on your channel.

  • Thank you =)

    I'll try to use it.

    Free soft forever!!!! =)

  • Ubuntu it's easier. Example:

Detects all your hardware (graphic card, wireless, webcam, 5 in 1 cardslot, etc.)

Ubuntu has a graphical installation so easy that give you indications step by step. It's just easier to install than windows vista.

  • Comment removed

  • How do you feel about OpenBSD?

  • I didn't find localization in my native language. Now I'm studing Ubuntu =)

  • Try Arch linux, you won't regret that!

  • If you succed to install, because arch its hard to install.

  • "linux users..... thooser poor suckers"

    hahahahahahaha!

i will give it a try, looks nice

    thanks for the video

    UNIX POWER!!!!

  • I just installed the latest version of PC-BSD on a virtual machine.

It's really not bad, I would definitely recommend it!

But in my opinion, Mandriva Linux is still the best windows alternative.

  • What's the difference between Ubuntu and Mandriva. I am useing ubuntu and I heard about Mandrive but I never tried it. It seems to me that ubuntu is more popular.

  • ubuntu is more popular than mandriva. However, this is because ubuntu is aimed for people who never used linux before. And their right, ubuntu is a very good distro for linux beginners. Mandriva on the other hand, is slightly more advanced than ubuntu, but in the long run, it is more capable. For example, mandriva is much more graphically advanced than ubuntu. Also, mandriva programs install very easily.(Just double click and it installs by itself.) You should try the mandriva live cd.

  • hmmm I might. It was a bitch dual booting ubuntu linux and mac and it was even more of a bitch deleting the thing. lol

  • What do you mean more capable? It's all Linux underneath the distro customizations.. you can do anything with any distro, each one is just geared toward certain use cases by default.

  • When I said it's more capable, I meant that mandriva programs are .rpm based. This means that programs are easier t install and more programs are becoming compatible with .rpm. And if the operating system has better program compatibility, than the operating system is more capable.

    :)

  • Please explain to me how being RPM based (versus .DEB based) makes them easier to install. And please site some references as to how you're claiming "more programs are becoming compatible with .rpm". Last I heard, Debian-based packages far outnumbered RPM-based packages.

  • The package manager logic is better at solving dependencies on DEB packages last I heard. I have used RPM and DEB and they honestly seem about equal. This is a myth perpetuated from what has been similarly how most Linux people talk about BSOD when that was clearly only a problem in the Windows 9x days.

  • Ubuntu has .deb, like you say, just double-click and the installation starts.

And .rpm and .deb supports the same software, in deed more software comes in .deb all because ubuntu.

  • Don't know how to say linux. I'll tell you

    GNU/Linux...

Have some respect for our status

    Those poor fuckers...

This video must be out of here, I will take care

  • i really want to try Free BSD

but i don't find any Arabic support :(

  • Try GNU Darwin. I beleive they suport Arabic. sorry i they don't, but im pretty sure they do.

  • BSD is more like MAC because OS X is based off of BSD.

  • Duuuh. BSD is like Unix not MAC, MAC have taken some source from BSD, Linux etc.

  • I've used those OS MAC, GNU/LINUX and I should say that freebsd is more better than mac or Linux and other unix based and Unix like Os.

  • What have they taken from Linux?? They took everything from BSD because they could keep it all closed source and make money off of it - just like Microsoft did with their TCP/IP stack (seriously, Google it). Apple is just as profiteering as Microsoft, if not worse. Open source is the only real way to evolve.

  • KillWhiteyVoteObama said:

"It's really amazing that in 2009 only M$ has common sense?? I guess that's why they sell so much. "

You are so clueless in not even funny. Kde is the best GUI out there. And the reason MS sells so much is because Idiots like you accept the OS given to you with your computer. Keep your virus ridden Winblows. But then if you had the intelligence to run anything else you would not have voted for Obama.

  • He was making some funny jokes. Too bad most people there didn't understand English well enough. Either that or they have a shitty sense of humour.

  • This is probably only funny for most BSD fandboys. If he's promting something, he shouldn't make fun of others.

  • BSD Conferance and he is using a MAC? How lame!

  • i have to agree on this one. in fact, this guy is terrible at promoting anything :)) he mocks gnome, he mocks his own product by counting the flaws in bsd, he's using a mac... i don't know who send him to that conference anyway

  • Guy is a jackass if he doesn't like Gnome.

  • Gnome does suck.

  • Best desktop enviroment used by most people

  • Why does gnome sucks??

  • i dont know why but i have never really liked kde.

  • have you tried kde 4. i vever liked kde3 but love kde4 :) i also love gnome :)

and some times i use dwm :)

  • Mpratsonis, yes...

  • one question FreeBSD has graphical enviroment ?

  • yes of course

  • the graphic envioroment is independent of any bsd, its called Xorg .

so any bsd can run any POSIX programn so yes freeBSD have xorg, also openBSD an NetBSD and so on.

  • "one question FreeBSD has graphical enviroment ?"

    Not out of the box.

  • -yes it has. you can find it on their ports collection and install every window manager that you want and customize it the way you like.

  • even in CD installer ( cd2 ) u can install the graphical environment, during install ( KDE etc ) or post install ( sysinstall/pkg_add ).. it just a matter of choice, normally i use FreeBSD for server and not install X/GUI at all...

  • I doubt.

    It does????????????????

  • your a complete moron, you sit here posting for a day. just to post your trolling reply. You have no clue what freebsd is about. Linux honestly has nothing on BSD when it comes to running it as a server. I will not feed your troll-ness after this comment.

  • pkg_add rings any bells to you?

  • it does, but it still break packages :)) same thing happens in gentoo, the linux distro that is most bsd like

  • i use arch/debian/openbsd i have not used gentoo but archlinux gots its rc.conf and shit its pretty bsd also got ABS a ports like system

  • the init process and the config file in arch linux (and slackware, for that matter) is BSD style, but the rest of it is different. arch has a package manager that deals well with dependencies, and moreover it uses binary packages, so the install is fast, even if you do it from scratch. gentoo is the most freebsd-like, the package manager (portage) works exactly like the ports tree (and has the same issues :D)

  • ohh i see your point. :)

    youre right.

  • With Gentoo it's better build the programs than use the package manager. And the most of Gentoo users make the compilation of their programs

  • Gentoo is not bsd-based and isn't like (bsd is faster), but Gentoo's good.

  • bsd can suck my massive cock

    linux is ok

but os x is waaay better

  • bsd wath?

os X is developed under freebsd kernel... just google it...

  • True!, and apple says that os x is their original idea.

  • Oh he's trying to be funny! NOt funny!

I was thinking of trying out PCBSD! But when I saw this PC-BSD guy, I changed my mind.

He's making fun of other operating systems, without strong arguments. He only says this sucks, that sucks. Nobody is gonna use your BSD if he talks like that!! Especially Linux users! WTF the Tux mascot in the video

He's a POOR Sucker himself. Hate his FANBOY talk!

    He's going toooo far!

    I'm a GNU/Linux user.

    By the way...

    What's wrong with Polish?

  • Lighten up, man. He's only joking.

  • I know, but it is not funny

  • "He's making fun of other operating systems, without strong arguments. He only says this sucks, that sucks."

He said Gnome sucks. Thats not a nother Os, its just a desktop environment. Which just so happens to suck BTW.

  • He did say something about Linux, don't know he was referring to the kernel or the GNU/Linux OS. And he shouldn't male fun of Tux. And I think you are a BSD fanboy.

  • Gnome sucks? That's just your personal opinion! The freedom of free software & open source is to let people choose what they want and not.......

What you say is the same as YES it sucks, because it sucks! You should tell WHY YOU think it sucks and WHY another is better or worse

  • chaukar said:

"Gnome sucks? That's just your personal opinion!"

Of course it is. Who else's opinion could I give?

"You should tell WHY YOU think it sucks"

    It makes me feel restrained.

"I think you are a BSD fanboy"

I have played with BSD a bit. I run Linux & always will, so don't rush to judgment.

  • I'd switch to PC-BSD, but my religion forbids the looking at objects that resembe the devil's horns. Plus i like penguins!

PS: Good thing you added bash.

  • FUCK religion, its all fake

  • Yup, but the creator of the universe(not the judeo/christian God) deserves to be worshiped, don't you think?

  • Out of curiosity, what is your religion?

  • I think my religion is the same as Lev Tolstoy, Easter-Orthodox Christianity, but i don't go to church. And of course i don't belive every aspect of christianity.

  • why are you cherry picking the christian faith? what good is it in it's "entirety" if you can just pick up the parts you like and ignore the parts you don't?

besides, who said the creator of the universe needs to be created? maybe he doesn't want to be created. maybe he does even exist.

  • Maybe yes, maybe not. We'll see when we get to the other side.

  • what if there is no other side? we've got no evidence saying there is an " other side ".

  • Are you imortal? What i was trying to say is we'll see if there is a God when we'll die.

  • But it'll be pointless if we waste our life worshipping a god that didn't exist. God shouldn't have been capitalized, you weren't referring to the Christian god..

  • i love bsd

  • COOL
