Oh wow! I vaguely recall that commercial. Like ub30f I would spend way too much time pouring through the Sears and J.C. Penney wish-books imagining all the fun I'd have playing with the toys. I still spend time with wish-books but from Brooks Brothers now rather than the department stores.
I remember the commercials for The Great Toy Box. I too would get the Sears Wishbook. Who knows, Maybe Santa bought my things at Sears? I bought my oldest nephew Christmas toys from the catalog in 1997.He got a Pooh Bear, a Powerwheels That was broken, and a horse that rocked and bounced. He still has Pooh Bear in his closet. He probably will give it to HIS son someday when he marries.
You know, I actually remember seeing this commercial on channel 4 in Los Angeles in 1969 just before the Christmas Season! I got a 5speed bike from there called the "Spyder 500", along with a Mattel Hot Wheels Tune-Up Tower. My friend that Christmas got a "Verti-bird" and Sizzlers! He was the envy at school!:-) Those were the days you could actually say "Merry Christmas"...
@Navdan87 Yeah, I remember those AFX Jackie Stewart commercials "It can rrreally grips the road" , of course it wasn't perfect grammar but with that scottish accent it was perfectly fine.
@dieselplow My younger sister and I would do the same thing - circle the toys we wanted and put either "T" or "D" next to it, LOL. One of my favorite toys was Christmas 1970, a "whirly bird" - a kind of helicopter held by a thin rod that went around in circles. I loved it!
i have that toy box like new in the box it plays music.. and looks exactly like this one before they go close up to show the kids and toys that is! wow !
The hockey game in this ad is tabletop hockey as it should be played...none of this air-puck nonsense...you actually had to spin the guys around on the rods and move them up and down the "ice" and make them push the puck with their sticks...now that was an art! My sisters and I once got hold of one that used to belong to some grown guys back when they were boys, and we had more fun with that thing...
Wow, I totally remember those commercials for Sears and the Big Toybox...maybe not this particular one but the music brings back memories...the Big Toybox at Sears was around in commercials for quite a few years I believe.
Wow! What a flashback to my childhood. I swear most of that stuff was under our xmas tree in 1969 - obviously, my parents were Searsaholics. Isn't it amazing, though, how us kids back then were so darn happy just to get a coupla toys at xmas, as opposed to today's kids getting an entire department storefull of stuff and STILL being disappointed and ungrateful?
I agree, Christmas was so magical, I grew up in the 60s and 70s and we always had nice christmases. They dont have toys now like they did back then. I miss those times

Wow, that was a pretty big generalization . . .
I am only 18 years old, and all of my friends and I never got anything special on xmas; probably less than what you even got.
