The only part of this game I hated was the driving sequences the driving physics for this game were broken. But I did beat the game for my 360 and got all 1000 GS for it. I enjoyed this game a lot. The soundtrack is absolutely amazing and voice work is good. The graphics and sound design are top notch. if only they could fix the driving in this game it would have done better. I really do hope they make a sequel to this game. I give this game a 6/10
Honestly though, someone Paypal this excellent reviewer a few dollars for an inexpensive (but incredibly effective) pop filter for his mic. His reviews are simply too bowel-shakingly good to be dragged through the hooker/pimp/drug-addict infested low-rent district of horrifically poor audio quality. It's like bedding a world-class bird of the highest caliber only to be fact-to-face with a foul fungal vaginal infection of the most vile kind.
i played the demo on Live Arcade and i thought it was awesome. i played just the first few chapters dozens of times. needless to say, i was tired of every single one of my actual games so i played demos all the time. but it was really cool. the suspenseful sound effects and music and very detailed cinematics. however this is a bit TOO creative. u gotta make all this home-made weapons and things and it'd be cool if it gave a tutorial of everything but it dusnt. but then creativity is cool also.
idk I love both ASFM and Nicotine. They are probably the two best on youtube (if you still count NicotineAlien). Nicotine has an amazingly awesome style and so does ASFM, they are just different.
"Wasted potential." That sums up AITD to a T. It's like a beta game they made to show off the Real World Rules engine -- it's a very impressive engine in a very dull game. I mean, the program is one that relies on creativity and improvisation, but they used that program in a game that's 99% one-way linear (complete with NPCs all over the place that yell "Hey over here!" right before they get killed).
Hopefully Atari will keep RWR and make a REAL game out of it.
Why did this guy get so many thumbs downs?? He's right. Stop your 360 fanboying little 12 year olds.... it's time to hit puberty now. The PS3 version was released months after PC, PS2, and 360 release, and the company fixed lots of the bugs and changed gameplay. It got a better score on many websites, it's called "Alone in the Dark: Inferno"
@g805ge Haha you dare fight against Armake 21 (marcus) that guy was here for ages, you have no idea how funny he is you cant just say that his video sucks if you do not like the game you little child!
RE 4 isn't survival horror, the other ones were but Re 4 turned the series to action adventure with all the guns and ammo you get. Very fun game though, not survival horror.
i disagree with you... i think this is a great game. tracking down the roots is EASY i mean... some with with a IQ of 4 could find them... on your mini-map theres fuzzy spots showing you where they are... and all you have to do when you get in the general area of the root is close your eyes and they glow like the sun... killing them is also very easy... you just need to burn them.... it could be a very small flame and they would die... it took me all of 10 min to get 50 spectral vision points
I didn't say it was hard, I said it was tedious and time consuming filler that comes at the worst possible time and ruins the pacing of the game.
It didn't have too great an impact on my final score, though. The game is overflowing with flaws. But I appreciate your comments - it's good to be reminded now and then that everyone has their own unique experiences with the games they play.
i think that RE4 killed survival/horror games... RE4 is a action/horror game and ppl want more action in survival/horror games now... survival/horrors are made for puzzles and taking your time and *gasp* surviving... *spoiler* the point of burning the roots is to weaken the tree gaurding the tomb to where the "key" aka old guy is... the game really didnt point that out but if u look at it thats what it is :p *spoiler over*
yes it did have flaws but non of them were game breaking imo
*spoiler* what hurt the score that i give the game is the ending... i really didnt like it... its lose/lose and theres no boss fight... *spoiler over*
but like you said every one has their own opinion... this game is far from perfect but with some bug fixes and *spoiler* maybe a new secret ending with a boss fight *spoiler*
would make it a lot closer... i would rate it a 8.6/10 or so
funny and clever review pal. liked the hat on the dog comment. tho ya coulda said it wouldnt be a bad game to rent. i bought it and after finishing it cant really imagine playing it again, and trading it in isnt great value. aswell as having no real replay value as the controls never feel natural, its short enough to finish in a long night or two
So, getting a feeling of "ahead its time" but Eden didn't seem like they had enough time to iron out their kinks and ambitions...sounds worth buying definitely, and great review. Thanks for pointing out the faults, like that annoying Light enemy! :P
I actually really enjoyed this game once you get past the rather annoying controls, I'd even go so far as to say it's one of my favourite games of the year, mostly due to the last sections, although the ending is a pile of crap.
very good review. only thing that drove me kinda nuts is that you whisper into the mic and i found it very hard to understand. but good job. i'm really torn whehter to pick this game up or not. theres so much good stuff apparently about it, but also so much crap.
Yeah, I had a pretty amazing experience while reading Lovecraft. I don't dream, or I don't remember my dreams, but while I was reading some of his stuff, I started having extremely vivid and extremely memorable (and extremely nasty) dreams.
As soon as I had finished reading, they stopped. It was weird but awesome.
That is awesome though unsurprising when it's considered; Lovecraft got to a place in the subconscious that very few people have discovered. It's like we find his writing true on a level we don't even realise; maybe not literally, but true in some kind of way.
I'm guessing it wasn't very good Cthulhu stuff in the original AITD? Has there ever been good Cthulhu stuff in a computer game?
There is actually a Cthulhu game called Call of Cthulhu: Dark Corners of the Earth - it is a very flawed game, but it has some good ideas and captures the atmosphere of Innsmouth extremely well.
I'm thinking about it, actually. But the last time I played it, I got barely half way in before giving up - there are some great things about it, but it's super duper flawed and if there's one thing I hate more than playing bad games, it's *re*playing bad games.
I'm playing that right now, up to the level after Marsh Refinery. Pretty awesome game, the only thing I don't like is the Refinery because of all the stupid Dagon dudes you got to kill. They keep on respawning, I noticed.
First decent user-review of this game.. I agree with most of what you said except about the roots--- I liked that part of the game y'know trying to find different ways of reaching them some of them were tricky.. anywayz good review- Good review I will subscribe.
Oh and I'd like to say this...I posted a link to your review in a thread asking about this game, and a mod actually came in and said it helped them decide whether they would be buying this game or not...just thought that'd make you feel good about making these reviews :)
Absolutely - if it hadn't been for the root thing, I would give it a 3/5 - I was enjoying it quite a bit up to the end, but it is still a flawed game and it still has a lot of issues, so roots or not, it's still not a *great* game.
There's a lot to enjoy in there, though, so if you deal with the roots as you play through, it would probably be very tolerable.
oh really? awesome, I havent watched the review yet because my internet is being utter shit, but I'm pretty sure that I'll base my purchase of the game tommorrow on this review :P

The game impressed me quite a few times, and I was thinking 3/5 right up to the end point. But after spending sevelral hours hunting roots, I just wanted to set my game disc on fire - games are meant to be fun, and that was *not* fun.
Fantastic review. And yet, for all this game's failings, I still want to play it. The individual bits and pieces are just so compelling, even if the overall execution of the game is a disaster.
I do like the music more than you, I think, however. (Bulgarian choirs are my Achilles' heel. :))
Fantastic review - I'm glad to see an honest review before the U.S. release, on Shacknews Atari got caught saying "Only positive reviews before release!" - one person who put out a "5/10" was accused of piracy and had a lawsuit held against him.
Also, it's got SecuROM - I'm sick of SecuROM - it doesn't work, and it's unnecessary.
I won't be picking it up but I do hope it does well though - or at least someone picks up on it's traits, it has a lot of potential. I think I'll rent it instead.
It doesn't make a difference to me, really. I make reviews first and foremost to help others - so whether it's raising awareness of forgotten classics or helping people make educated purchases of new games, my only goal is to help others.
you're on a reviewing rampage, mate! the review is great, as always (perhaps even your best one yet), and it's very, very informative. if i was unsure whether or not to get the game before, i'm pretty sure now that i won't, thanks to the review.
someone suggested medieval 2 before. that would be interesting. and i bet the game hasn't sold as well as one would expect from (what i hear is) a great game, so your review might convince a few people to buy the game.
by the way, i laughed out loud when you said 'just like a real tv show.' funny shit, man!
Yeah, I've thought about reviewing Medieval 2 - the only thing is, that game takes hours and hours and hours to play, and making a video review would take a long, long time.
I started making a review of the game, and it ended up turning into a machinema, which ended up being deleted due to crappiness.
