Use the real time cadence in RPM along with the typical circumference of a racing wheel/tire and a 53x11 gear ratio and you should be able to pin down the crash speed pretty accurately.

Assuming 120rpm and 2100mm I came up with about 72 kph/45 mph. I saw this when it was televised and it looked every bit that fast when it happened. This also works out to typical sprint speeds over the years for an elite level pro race.

@Hardwyre 30 km/h?! Look at signals and secs of the movie: they cross 300 m to go at 44sec from start of the movie. They cross the finish line at 1:02: it makes 18 seconds to run 300 m. This means an average speed on last 300 metres around 60 km/h. Top speed (at the crash) was probably higher.

Roadie spandex boy was not watching the retard standing in his lane and could have avoided the crash if he was not looking at his shoes "hey man my shoes are so pretty" WTF.....crash, bang,boom, skid, sheeet oooooof. If you guys want to race then race 4X not road riding in "spandex". Amazing how many riders gravitate towards racing on roads with no protection makes no sense and when I see spectators and dogs running in front of the racers every year decade after decade "hello" !!!

I saw 2 roadies at a race get in each others faces and I laughed they should have used "hankys" to swat each other with then cry!! What is amazing is that road riding is strictly for road riding not for gravel or rocks and roots etc and yet masses of people go to these events perhaps because it is free and they are bored? Most of the spectators at XC Mtb events actually ride their bikes and compete themselves rarely do I see fat guys watching a mountain bike race. Do you Mtb?

He won a lot of races but he was a shit sprinter - like gingerslap says, he moved all over the road and stopped other riders coming through - this is not fair, not skilled, just cheating, like taking steroids which he also did.

Oh, and there were other accidents his sprinting "style" also caused, again pity the other riders, not Abdou.
