Can any liberal Democrat please tell us all how the Federal Government has any control over local public schools? Local schools in my corrupt state of Illinois, get 92% of their funding from local property taxes. The State is 4-6% and the Fed is maybe 1-2%.
So all this Crap from Obama about education is just that Crap. Close down the Fed Dept of Education.
Hey Liberals and Democrats...............Come on.................Do you really trust this mismanaged government with more tax dollars? It like giving a drunk another drink to sobber him up.
@wsoxman How about a tax cut for the rich? Not like giving a drunk another drink to sober him up?
How about this: All income above $5 million/year is taxed an additional 5%, which goes directly to pay off our debt. The money is not allowed to be used for any other purpose.
That's a simple in-out way, would that be an acceptable way to sober the drunk up?
Btw, the reason the govt is mismanaged is because of corruption, not because govt categorically can do no good.
@MyTemporaryAccount88 You are in Goofyland if you think that government is run efficently and without waste and fraud. I guess you never heard of the $154 hammer or the $543 million for some wacko solar company Soylandra. Our government is way to big and way to fat. Shit 16k people needed to work on the new Healthcare Boondoggle. Private sector buildt this country.....not government.
To all you dummies out there..................Mitt Romney and millions of other taxpayers are only following the IRS guidelines. You act like they are cheating. Romney already paid 35% income tax on the money he is investing. You liberals want to tax him twice?
And lets talk about how Obama only gave a stinking 1% TO Charity in 2010. Biden a stinking $369 to the poor. Romney $7 million. I guess liberal have a problem giving away their own money, but not the taxpayer's.
@wsoxman exactly. I'm so tired of people comparing income tax to capital gains tax. We all pay the same amount on capital gains--15%. And Romney wants to make it so that those making under $200,000 a year will pay 0% tax on capital gains. You want to see the economy take a bigger dive? make the capital gains tax 30% and watch people invest less. and to liberals, the government is their charity. Conservatives like to help people by giving to the charities of their choice.
@stephaniejane81 Great points on taxes. The liberals want to hand this mismanaged government more tax dollars to waste. If I were a rich guy Id say "I will give the government $2 for every $1 they cut. Obama is using smoke and mirrors with his lies on cuts.
Oh my goodness, taxes are wasted the majority of them. The government WASTES our money! Granted not all but the majority of taxes are wastes taxpayer dollars.
Where do you think the 22% went? He reinvested it in the economy, stupid! Are you saying that the government can make better decisions about allocation of resources than the free market??
This is what Mormons have waited on for yrs...ever since Joseph Smith ran for President of the United States in 1844
Mormon campaigners had been sent to the different states before Smith was assassinated
And Smith had already set up a "Theodemocracy" whose Council had ordained Smith as King of the Kingdom of God & had sent ambassadors to England, France, Russia
Had Smith been elected US President we would've had 35 1st Ladies (or would they have numbered them?)
There has to be a minimum tax paid for people making over certain amounts (no matter how they made it), otherwise the tax code will ALWAYS allow for legal manipulation through financial activity. The certain amounts may be >$200k, then >$500k, > $1mil, > $10mil, then > $1bil.
Example:
And don't hate me, this is how the tax code works
The least tax I ever paid was the year I made the most money ... that is until I figured out how to actually pay no tax at all and make good money. No joke.
after years and years youtube finally gives you the option to NOT change the damn resolution when you click full screen. TYT make a story about that lol its so logical but took so long it deserves a story
Theyoungturks .....you forgot that his money have already been tax the first time about 35% and another 15% more for investing his money instead of you liberals dumbass who spend all their money instead of investing it...liberals are dumb! Dont fool yourself liberals..
Mitt Romney paid aprox. 37% on the money he earned when he earned it. Then after paying the taxes on the money he earned, he only pays 15% on the already taxed money that he invests...the money is actually taxed twice...how stupid is this guy?
@tooltalk As neither do they about you :) Btw..."LOL" is so cliché these days. Soooo 90's Wish YouTube had an autofilter for that. Would really help to filter out the teen-talk from the comments sections.
Hey> Romney and Warren Buffet and Michael Moore > how about you help out the country and give each person in the 99% a $10,000 check and that would stimulate the economy. >Greedy 1% fuckers !!!!
@octopibingo Unlike the tea party, OWS is targeting the sector that is responsible for the wrecked economy, the financial sector. The tea party on the other hand would have use believe that taxes, and deficit spending suddenly wrecked the economy, even as they hadn't had a history of doing so. Unlike the financial sector that has a long history of wrecking the economy.

@xmtc87x Because, as a more privileged member of society, it's your duty to take care of those less fortunate. Note that this is an absolute cornerstone of both Left and Right wing ideals, which makes it all the more comical that Republicans in the US oppose it; in Conservatism, it comes under the key Conservative belief of Organicism (e.g while the poorer shouldn't steal the wealthy's property or money, the wealthy should take care of those less well off).
@xmtc87x Are the rich making all the trinkets in those factories? Would they in-fact BE millionaires if it were not for society and everyone else? They'd be struggling with sticks and stones if not for society. Everyone makes the world work. One less Mc millionaire doesn't keep you from getting frys at McY D's... but his 25 employees DO make his product and therefore his money.
I was never a Romney fan but the more I hear about him the more he disgusts me. Totally out of touch with the average American...as most politicians are since you have to be a millionaire to be elected now and become richer when you leave office and become a lobbyist...how do you even know where to begin to clean our corrupted political system up...
Dear Diary - really great news today! An American Airlines flight full of blonde sorority girls crashed into a nuclear power plant. There are mass evacuations in three states! No one is paying any attention at all to my tax returns."
You are so good!! That's right they work for the SOB's (corporations, human entities). We love all that your doing to keep us informed and enlightened. Three cheers to the TYT!!!
Gotta love how Romney says "I've worked hard, I've been successful, don't hate me for my money." NO you haven't. You are a rich, spoiled, silver spoon rammed up your ass because daddy was f*cking loaded. My dad owned a small tavern, think I had those same opportunities?
Romney supporters are very, very sad, brainwashed people trying to defend the indefensible. People like Romney are robbing the American people blind. What's worse is that Americans like being lied to and still vote for these same crooks.
@ZigZagzGoon It's because Ron Paul's a normal guy that a lot of people don't want to vote for him. He's supported by normal people: the military vets, the young, the poor, and the middle class. Romney draws his support from the banks, the Fox crowd, the elderly with 401Ks and stocks. There are a lot of people who wish they were like Romney with a dozen homes and millions in the Caymans. They have the delusion that if they vote for liars and thieves, they too can enjoy the same benefits.
I almost don't blame him for wanting more money jesus this is why we need to fix the fucking system we will never have a clean senate if we keep this shit up. God I want that house.
@KiDFRANKKK We care because he is sitting on 250 million dollars and manipulating the system so he doesn't have to pay fair taxes. He wants to make it so every millionaire and billionaire pays what he pays without having to manipulate the system. Even if you are willing to overlook the fact that he got his money in the slimiest way possible it's still pretty fucked up. We don't want the money we want it to go to good use for the country where it belongs. Mitt Romney is selfish scum.
@ZigZagzGoon Wow I thought Liberals were more understanding and tolerant of opposing political parties and supporters. I am SHOCKED at the level of hostility you have directed towards a Mitt Romney supporter. Mitt Romney 2012.
@bgrim2008 Well you are either a millionaire or an idiot if you support him. I am hostile because there is no good reason to vote for him, his policies will undeniably ruin the country for everybody that isn't filthy rich, or at least speed the process.
@bgrim2008 There is no Left or Right in the USA, because the Left and the Right are the SAME DAMN THING. There is no real choice, just the illusion of it. Freedom and Liberty unite all peoples in common cause.
If he paid his dad's 37% he at most and I mean MOST, he may be 50-80 million less rich. That would put him at $170 MILLION! $80 million in taxes would pay $50,000 to 1,600 employees for a year! or, for the Republicans sake they could buy 2 more F-15s! and to say you can't live off $170,000, that is 3,400 times the average (a little bit higher than the real avg probably) $50,000 income
@LOCUSTHATER666 Its the old Rich dad spoiled brat child story. Your dad does everything he can to show you you should do well but also contribute to society. And all you get from it is your dad is giving money away that he should be giving to you. We went from an America where the parents sacrificed for their children to a country where those children grew up and nothing they get is enough. Screw their kids and their kids kids.
What you lefty kooks don't seem to understand is that Mitt ALREADY paid 35% on that money when he EARNED it to begin with!!!!! Now that he's turned his EARNED INCOME to investment income, he pays 15% on that!! So in essence, he's paying 50% in taxes on that money!!!!
But even going by YOUR numbers, Mitt has a reported $250,000,000 in investment money! $250,000,000 X 15% = $37,500,000 in taxes he pays!!!! You lefty knuckleheads pay that much??!! I think NOT!! HE PAYS ENOUGH ALREADY!!!!!
@ronpaulbot What I wrote was not clear at all now that I reread it. And we're probably actually on the same side of this argument. The point is that the initial capital for the investment was taxed as income. Then, because one has committed the sin of good investment, another 15% must be paid on that gain. Its double taxation.
We were never paying super high tax rates throughout history, why do you keep saying that Cenk. I'm not a hardcore libertarian but many libertarians like Peter Schiff have tried debating you on this topic, talking about the giant loopholes you could get back then vs. now. IDK why you just ignore these loopholes and dedications and rather just keep saying the rich used to pay more. Right now most rich pay 35%+ plus that you cannot get out of.
All those rich people are to be expropriated. They have no rights to earn millions of dollars. How is it that 99% of all Americans will never earn more then 1.000.000 dollars a year. Most will never earn more then 60.000 dollars a year. So why is it fair that those rich people have so much money? Capitalism is good for those who know how to play to get rich. The conservatives and many liberals love rich people, for them those people are ''job creators''.
Looks like obama is safer to run this country..we need an new face to run for president..hurry up some one who can talk some sense not some woman nicer or how lowe can I'd get my tax returns to go.loop holes man walk away...
all these Republican candidates are a joke and don't give a shit about us. All they want to do is get richer and make us pay for everything. My vote is still with Obama
@nory826 Goldman Sachs was the top donor for obama & he now is now the top donor for Mitt Romney. wake up from the 2 party allusion. Ron Paul is the only candidate who cares about this country.
Do not vote for Anny of these canidates don't give an dam about the middle class.. all they want is back door deals briefcases with 100 dollar bills why are we building casinos in an poor economy.Ohio n its private prisons third class traps.. you must well wake up they have something waiting on us. third class americans.
@politico92 see I consider myself a libertarian. I believe that markets should not be artificially stimulated. it should depend on what the consumer demands.
The IRS FBI got to step in and stop the loop holes and kick out the law maker's but they have the same code of jobs help each other. Reword of kind mafia.. who going to stop this before its too late to stop this snooty nose up in the air small pencil pushing middle class punishing society.
Two party system is a scam, get rid of the Federal Income Tax , let the people keep there check and pay State and property tax, if they want to raise consumption tax let them, Reward savers and investors, Federal Income tax goes to off shore central banks, and citizens getting screwed with Hidden Tax by inflation so Audit the Fed, and end the undustrial military complex, bring that money home, control drugs let the market compete like Amsterdam bring revenue and end beauracracies
There's an interesting article for anyone interested in the theory of "trickle down" economics, and the notion of wealthy Americans driving consumer spending in a recession. Spoiler alert: they don't. In fact, they spend LESS during recessions than they do during boom times. Why? Because they don't have to spend AS MUCH in order to maintain their elevated standard of living.
Google "Why the rich love recessions: It's cheaper to outspend others."
@dkamouflage That's not to say that they should or shouldn't be taxed more, mind you (that's a separate issue).
But the argument that wealthy Americans drive econ. recovery, is not factually supported. Consumer DEMAND drives our economy; but during recessions, wealthy Americans consume LESS (just like everyone else), regardless of how well they weathered the recession. At best, they add little to the economy--and at worst, actively drain it, by consolid. & diverting capital to foreign markets.
@antonio3p1 That 15% has been taxed on anyway? Can you be more specific? Do you mean the .0034% tax rate currently levied on Stock transactions? How is that even comparable? Unbelievable, Romney gets to pay a lower percentage of income than most everyone else, despite the fact that he's incredibly rich and earns his money under a progressive income tax system, and you say 'it's no big deal.'
@eagles980 Sure the money that he has received has been given to him by a corporation which pays a corporate tax.
I don't listen to Fox I listen to economist like Peter Schiff who predicted the housing bubble unlike the Keynesians that you listen to.
I agree I think that the current system we have today has been favoring the rich by a long shot but we don't fix that by overtaxing them and ruining the economy. Instead lets lower taxes for everybody.
@antonio3p1 - Keynesians recognize bubbles. Randian economics denies the existence of bubbles. If you don't even understand this basic difference, you have no authority on economic issues.
Keynesian economics recognizes bubbles so much it explicitly requires regulation and intervention to help moderate and eliminate them. Randian economics, put forward by Ayn Rand and others like her, dictates that "the price of a good, regardless of the cause, is the natural price of a good."
@LeksServices They might recognize the bubble when it's almost about to burst and their "solution" to the bubble is to try and blow it up again and continue the fake growth.
Regulation and intervention didn't work during the Great Depression of the 1930's but on the otherhand when government let the economy do it's work the economy turned around in a few years. Just look at the 1920 Great Depression.
@antonio3p1 - Why don't you people get your facts straight? Do some research? Learn something? Think critically for a change?
Why is it always up to us skeptics to inform you how you are wrong? Why can't you do it yourselves? I'm fucking tired of teaching SHEEPLE how to fucking think. Like my mother always said. GOD GAVE YOU A BRAIN! USE THE DAMNED THING!
@antonio3p1 It all depends on what your definition of "overtaxing" means, doesn't it? No matter what tax rate the richest people receive, they still retain the most amount of purchasing power in relation to everyone else. This is all despite the fact that America has one of the lowest effective tax rates in the industrialized world. There's not much use complaining in that department.
Did Schiff mention that the housing bubble was created by the deregulation of the market?
@antonio3p1 Somehow not only does the regulation of the housing market increase the prices of said homes, the government, Fannie May and Freddie Mac (no other banks were involved in the least, apparently) conspired together to cause the collapse of the economy. Yeah, the repeal of Glass-Steagal, resulting in bank speculation of commercial deposits and the blatant fraud that the banks took part in when they knowingly sold toxic mortgages as valuable assets, had nothing to do with it.
@eagles980 First of all it's not illegal to sell bad mortgages. Secondly yes of course Fannie May and Freddie Mac giving out loans that they knew wouldn't be paid back caused the housing crisis combined with overregulation which made the houses too expensive and the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates low.
Speculation at the moment isn't so high because Glass-Steagal was repealled it's so high because of the easy credit being given out by the Fed.
@antonio3p1 It is illegal when you don't reveal the nature and risk of those same toxic mortgages, while betting to make a profit on their inevitable implosion. I'm glad to see that the only people (rightfully) protesting the way the Federal Reserve works are so I'll informed, though. Directing the cause of the Financial crisis to just two of the multitude of banking institutions that engaged in many of the same practices, weakens your argument entirely. Overregulation? Sure...
@eagles980 I'm not misinformed you're the one that's misinformed. We have way too many regulations in America that makes it harder for the business owners to start their own business and hire people without worrying about getting sued.
Regulations always end up being written by the big corporations, that have enough money to lobby, so they can gain a unnatural business advantages and destroy their competition.
@antonio3p1 You were the one that didn't think that the banks engaged in any illegal activity, were you not? Where you find the gall to label me as misinformed, I do not know.
When it comes to regulations, of course some may be influenced by the corporations interests when they spend lobbying money to buy their local Senator, but that's why we need campaign finance reform. The mere fact that you immediately describe all regulation as "competition killing" discredits you immediately.
@eagles980 I didn't say the banks didn't commit any fraud or other illegal activities but the fact of the matter is that it was government that created this mess not the private market. You liberals think that the reason we had an economic crash was because of the unregulated free market when it wasn't.
It was because of high taxes, the Federal Reserve, regulations, interference of the market and crony capitalism.
In order to fix this we don't need more with need less government.
@antonio3p1 "It is not illegal to sell bad mortgages" This is a direct quote from you. Not only that, you kept writing that Fannie May and Freddie Mac were the only banks that caused the housing bubble. Pure misinformation.
You say that High taxes, the Federal Reserve and regulation caused this recession while admitting that there was crony capitalism involved? That's insane but tell me, what prevents crony capitalism? That's right, regulation. You're sounding delusional now.
@eagles980 REGULATIONS PREVENT CRONY CAPITALISM? NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I HEARD SUCH A STUPID QUOTE. No you asshole GOVERNMENT creates crony capitalism, it's GOVERNMENT that writes the regulations that give corporations a unnatural advantage over their competition which sometimes even creates monopolies! You are so fucking misinformed it's incredible! The government through FM&FM created fake demand and made investors believe they were savings through the low interest rates which made it crash.
@antonio3p1 There are no laws out there that force banks to give loans to low income individuals. I challenge you to find me one, so that that throws your "government creating fake demand" argument straight out the window. Once again, the mere fact that you refuse to acknowledge the fact that most if not all of the big banks engaged in fraud, highlights your lack of ability to use common sense. They were set to make a killing on fraud, and they did. End of story.
@eagles980 Of course the government creates fake demands and bad investments when they throw money into something which is unsustainable. It's just a fact.
Of course there are laws that force banks to give out loans to low income individuals, have you ever heard of the Community Reinvestment Act?
Those banks made a killing because of government and the monetary system if we had a free market they wouldn't have been bailed out either and would have failed, which they deserved to do!
@antonio3p1 Right, an Act that was introduced into law more than 30 years ago designed to reduce discrimination against minority groups in terms of race and poverty (redlining) while being continually weakened, has caused the recession by which the entire economy has been crippled. Where did I go wrong?
Unbelievable, at this point the fallacy of your argument for the deregulation of the economy could not be any more profound.
@antonio3p1 There really is no point in arguing with someone so willing and able to immediately forgo logic and resort to simplified Republican talking points in order to justify their positions. Much in the same way the government is prevented from exercising too much of it's power through the constitution, regulations protect consumers from a corporations defined need to make a profit regardless of the consequences. Moderation is the key here, but regulation is needed regardless.
@eagles980 Corporations can only hurt you through government. The only way for them to succeed in a free market is to provide customers with a product that they will buy at their own will.
When you historically see corporations REALLY hurt people they do it through government, by for example writing regulations that give them a monopoly on the product they're selling or in general just kill competition and lobby regulators to get away with their crimes.
@antonio3p1 Tell me, why would the banks prevent themselves from blatantly committing fraud in order to earn a massive profit with little consequence from this current system, when there would be no law to punish such damaging actions? That's like saying having laws that punish stealing by robbers, creates a monopoly. That's complete nonsense.
What prevents a drug company from selling you ineffective medicine? Regulation. What prevents environmental damages? Thats right, regulation.
@eagles980 There are laws against fraud you idiot. We just need to enforce them but because of government being so big, which causes corruption, we don't! I said that if you give government regulatory powers they often, if not always, end up being written in someones advantage which of course creates the incentive for corporations to lobby so they can gain that advantage, therefor we should be very careful whenever we grant government power and we right now we need to shrink government!
@antonio3p1 Way to start off an argument by calling me an idiot. How mature.
Let me get this straight, you're saying that there are laws that prevent fraud, but that the government is too big to enforce them and not be influenced by politicians? You think that a smaller regulatory body will do the job better and not be corrupted? That's some seriously delusional backwards logic, if I've ever heard any. Keep up the talking points, though. Those are always fun.
@eagles980 No I'm not saying that government is too big to enforce them, but because government is so big it's has been corrupted in every aspect of it's power including the part of enforcing laws. It's simple. Rich people always get away from the law and the poor people and minorities suffer. So what about we shrink government and give it less power so it won't be lobbied by rich people who will eventually control our life as they're doing right now!
It only gets worse from here. This is your logic: Government is so big that it has been corrupted in every aspect. This is the fallacy: The regulatory agencies are in fact incredibly small when compared to the market as a whole and there are hardly any laws preventing the very corruption you speak of.
Do you know one thing that won't correct the problem? Letting those in power continue to abuse the system in the hope that somewhere down the line they'll fail.
@eagles980 Those regulatory bureaucracies aren't small compared to the power they have. There are around 170 regulatory agencies in our government at the moment that have huge power over the economy, so what I'm proposing is that we take away their power and not let a few hundred people control the economy because as they have done in the past, and as they will do in the future, they will get corrupted by big corporations.
More laws aren't going to solve our problems, neither is big government.
@antonio3p1 The number of regulatory agencies doesn't matter in the least, especially when it comes to the financial sector of the economy. What does matter is their ability to exercise their powers and enforce the laws they're meant to. Are you aware of the number of people prosecuted for the predatory lending, trading of knowingly toxic mortgage backed securities and fraudulent documentation the banks used to foreclose on thousands of homes?
@eagles980 No those regulatory agencies will always get corrupted especially if they have huge power and are unelected bureaucrats. It's so simple, get it through your head. In the free market people will vote with their dollars and let bad companies who cheat their customers fail. Especially in our day and age where communication between people has gotten so easy.
Agencies like the FDA have killed more people than they have saved by preventing good drugs for example. That's a fact.
@antonio3p1 Voting with your dollars doesn't exactly work if the good or service you buy ends up failing catastrophically months or even years later. That's the critical flaw in the "free market is perfect" argument. The mere fact that you think because the FDA requires rigorous testing and experimentation in order to approve new drugs and enforces basic sanitation laws in order to prevent toxic food, proves you market libertarians are delusional. Pure baseless conjecture.
@eagles980 The free market is certaintly better than the FDA. If I can sit here and tell you all the facts but you in the end just call make delusional and won't face the truth then there's really something wrong with you.
As I said, did you know that a study proved that the FDA has actually killed more people by preventing life SAVING drugs from getting into the country than it has safed by testing and prohibting certain drugs?
People didn't die from food poisoning all the time before the FDA.
@antonio3p1 You can't hold criminals accountable without laws and enforcement agencies. If the principal holds true for robbers holding a bank hostage, it does for Wall street criminals and banking executives holding the economy hostage as well.
@eagles980 Well they already commited a crime and adding more bureaucracy and making the government bigger isn't going to help, we can only solve our problems if we shrink government and try to control Washington.
Well, our tax rates helped in those mid-20th century days...but the main reason the US was doing so well is because post-WWII we were the only large, advanced country with money and that wasnt destroyed.
I don't think it makes you a good person just because you pay your taxes to a government whose bombs and sanctions lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians overseas.
@RKAddict101 All of our money doesn't go to that... portions of it do. The main issue in that sense is reforming the military and getting rid of the Military Industrial Complex so we have less reasons to fund these ridiculous wars and terrible bombings. The other portions go to useful government programs that need to be funded and used to help the citizens that need it most.
@LibertyInProgressNOW You honestly think if Romney gave more of his money to the government, it would actually go to "necessary" programs? The only reason the government will raise taxes if they want to fund Wallstreet.
@RKAddict101 Yeah but people like Romney are pushing for wars and war profiteering - look YOU AINT A BILLIONAIRE and government WHEN DEMOCRATIC is ON YOU SIDE - turn off you am radio and stop watching Fox...
@StunnedByStupidity Democratic government is on my side? No, a democratic government is on the majority's side. I am am unfortunate minority --- the individual. But in our current system, the government is on the side of whoever has the big bucks. To say I have any control over such a system when my vote only counts in a tiebreak is hilarious.
@RKAddict101 Yes, democracy has been undermined by scum like Romney - but look at WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT - and they are on your side - you are clearly confused about the finer details of what is going on... Taxes IS YOUR FRIEND - as is GOVERNMENT - you dont know this because the right have spent a fortune on propaganda to fool you...
@StunnedByStupidity Essentially every government in the world is corrupt, and they are corrupt for a reason. When you make one organization that is allowed the use of aggressive force, but people in general are not, the people that want to use aggressive force are the ones that will end up in that organization. It's not like it's a coincidence or something that "scum like Romney" end up "undermining" democracy. Democracy was made to be undermined.

No joke.

Back in the 1950's and 1960 (1956 to 1968)s:
- the top marginal tax rate in 50's (~91%), after 1964 (70%), 1980's (50%), 2011 (35%)
- much of federal tax revenue in 50's went straight to bottomless pit (military)
- military spending as % of all federal spending in 1950's (~75%); 1960's (~55%); 2010 (~20%)
- SS/Edu/Housing/Med% of all federal spending in 1950s (~5%), 1960's (~16%), 2010 (~55%)

Most will never earn more then 60.000 dollars a year. So why is it fair that those rich people have so much money? Capitalism is good for those who know how to play to get rich.
Google "Why the rich love recessions: It's cheaper to outspend others."
dkamouflage 1 month ago in playlist Uploaded videos
@dkamouflage That's not to say that they should or shouldn't be taxed more, mind you (that's a separate issue).
But the argument that wealthy Americans drive econ. recovery, is not factually supported. Consumer DEMAND drives our economy; but during recessions, wealthy Americans consume LESS (just like everyone else), regardless of how well they weathered the recession. At best, they add little to the economy--and at worst, actively drain it, by consolid. & diverting capital to foreign markets.

Instead lets lower taxes for everybody.
antonio3p1 1 month ago
@antonio3p1 - Keynesians recognize bubbles. Randian economics denies the existence of bubbles. If you don't even understand this basic difference, you have no authority on economic issues.
Keynesian economics recognizes bubbles so much it explicitly requires regulation and intervention to help moderate and eliminate them. Randian economics, put forward by Ayn Rand and others like her, dictates that "the price of a good, regardless of the cause, is the natural price of a good."
LeksServices 1 month ago
@LeksServices They might recognize the bubble when it's almost about to burst and their "solution" to the bubble is to try and blow it up again and continue the fake growth.
Regulation and intervention didn't work during the Great Depression of the 1930's but on the otherhand when government let the economy do it's work the economy turned around in a few years. Just look at the 1920 Great Depression.

No? Hmm.
eagles980 1 month ago
@eagles980 The housing bubble was created by deregulation? Who the hell told you that?!
It was created by Fannie May and Freddie Mac, the Federal Government and government regulations which raised the price of houses.
How the hell can you have your facts so messed up?
The income tax should be at 0%.
antonio3p1 1 month ago
@antonio3p1 Somehow not only does the regulation of the housing market increase the prices of said homes, the government, Fannie May and Freddie Mac (no other banks were involved in the least, apparently) conspired together to cause the collapse of the economy. Yeah, the repeal of Glass-Steagal, resulting in bank speculation of commercial deposits and the blatant fraud that the banks took part in when they knowingly sold toxic mortgages as valuable assets, had nothing to do with it.
eagles980 1 month ago
@eagles980 First of all it's not illegal to sell bad mortgages. Secondly yes of course Fannie May and Freddie Mac giving out loans that they knew wouldn't be paid back caused the housing crisis combined with overregulation which made the houses too expensive and the Federal Reserve keeping interest rates low.
Speculation at the moment isn't so high because Glass-Steagal was repealled it's so high because of the easy credit being given out by the Fed.
antonio3p1 1 month ago
@antonio3p1 It is illegal when you don't reveal the nature and risk of those same toxic mortgages, while betting to make a profit on their inevitable implosion. I'm glad to see that the only people (rightfully) protesting the way the Federal Reserve works are so I'll informed, though. Directing the cause of the Financial crisis to just two of the multitude of banking institutions that engaged in many of the same practices, weakens your argument entirely. Overregulation? Sure...
eagles980 1 month ago
@eagles980 I'm not misinformed you're the one that's misinformed. We have way too many regulations in America that makes it harder for the business owners to start their own business and hire people without worrying about getting sued.
Regulations always end up being written by the big corporations, that have enough money to lobby, so they can gain a unnatural business advantages and destroy their competition.
That's all regulations does. Kill competition.
antonio3p1 4 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 You were the one that didn't think that the banks engaged in any illegal activity, were you not? Where you find the gall to label me as misinformed, I do not know.
When it comes to regulations, of course some may be influenced by the corporations interests when they spend lobbying money to buy their local Senator, but that's why we need campaign finance reform. The mere fact that you immediately describe all regulation as "competition killing" discredits you immediately.
eagles980 4 weeks ago
@eagles980 I didn't say the banks didn't commit any fraud or other illegal activities but the fact of the matter is that it was government that created this mess not the private market. You liberals think that the reason we had an economic crash was because of the unregulated free market when it wasn't.
It was because of high taxes, the Federal Reserve, regulations, interference of the market and crony capitalism.
In order to fix this we don't need more with need less government.
antonio3p1 4 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 "It is not illegal to sell bad mortgages" This is a direct quote from you. Not only that, you kept writing that Fannie May and Freddie Mac were the only banks that caused the housing bubble. Pure misinformation.
You say that High taxes, the Federal Reserve and regulation caused this recession while admitting that there was crony capitalism involved? That's insane but tell me, what prevents crony capitalism? That's right, regulation. You're sounding delusional now.
eagles980 4 weeks ago
@eagles980 REGULATIONS PREVENT CRONY CAPITALISM? NEVER IN MY LIFE HAVE I HEARD SUCH A STUPID QUOTE. No you asshole GOVERNMENT creates crony capitalism, it's GOVERNMENT that writes the regulations that give corporations a unnatural advantage over their competition which sometimes even creates monopolies! You are so fucking misinformed it's incredible! The government through FM&FM created fake demand and made investors believe they were savings through the low interest rates which made it crash.
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 There are no laws out there that force banks to give loans to low income individuals. I challenge you to find me one, so that that throws your "government creating fake demand" argument straight out the window. Once again, the mere fact that you refuse to acknowledge the fact that most if not all of the big banks engaged in fraud, highlights your lack of ability to use common sense. They were set to make a killing on fraud, and they did. End of story.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 Of course the government creates fake demands and bad investments when they throw money into something which is unsustainable. It's just a fact.
Of course there are laws that force banks to give out loans to low income individuals, have you ever heard of the Community Reinvestment Act?
Those banks made a killing because of government and the monetary system if we had a free market they wouldn't have been bailed out either and would have failed, which they deserved to do!
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 Right, an Act that was introduced into law more than 30 years ago designed to reduce discrimination against minority groups in terms of race and poverty (redlining) while being continually weakened, has caused the recession by which the entire economy has been crippled. Where did I go wrong?
Unbelievable, at this point the fallacy of your argument for the deregulation of the economy could not be any more profound.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 There really is no point in arguing with someone so willing and able to immediately forgo logic and resort to simplified Republican talking points in order to justify their positions. Much in the same way the government is prevented from exercising too much of it's power through the constitution, regulations protect consumers from a corporations defined need to make a profit regardless of the consequences. Moderation is the key here, but regulation is needed regardless.
eagles980 4 weeks ago
@eagles980 Corporations can only hurt you through government. The only way for them to succeed in a free market is to provide customers with a product that they will buy at their own will.
When you historically see corporations REALLY hurt people they do it through government, by for example writing regulations that give them a monopoly on the product they're selling or in general just kill competition and lobby regulators to get away with their crimes.
Government is our real problem.

Thats right, regulation.
eagles980 4 weeks ago
@eagles980 There are laws against fraud you idiot. We just need to enforce them but because of government being so big, which causes corruption, we don't! I said that if you give government regulatory powers they often, if not always, end up being written in someones advantage which of course creates the incentive for corporations to lobby so they can gain that advantage, therefor we should be very careful whenever we grant government power and we right now we need to shrink government!
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 Way to start off an argument by calling me an idiot. How mature.
Let me get this straight, you're saying that there are laws that prevent fraud, but that the government is too big to enforce them and not be influenced by politicians? You think that a smaller regulatory body will do the job better and not be corrupted? That's some seriously delusional backwards logic, if I've ever heard any. Keep up the talking points, though. Those are always fun.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 No I'm not saying that government is too big to enforce them, but because government is so big it's has been corrupted in every aspect of it's power including the part of enforcing laws. It's simple. Rich people always get away from the law and the poor people and minorities suffer. So what about we shrink government and give it less power so it won't be lobbied by rich people who will eventually control our life as they're doing right now!
Fool.

@antonio3p1 Part 2
Letting those in power continue to abuse the system in the hope that somewhere down the line they'll fail.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 Those regulatory bureaucracies aren't small compared to the power they have. There are around 170 regulatory agencies in our government at the moment that have huge power over the economy, so what I'm proposing is that we take away their power and not let a few hundred people control the economy because as they have done in the past, and as they will do in the future, they will get corrupted by big corporations.
More laws aren't going to solve our problems, neither is big government.
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 The number of regulatory agencies doesn't matter in the least, especially when it comes to the financial sector of the economy. What does matter is their ability to exercise their powers and enforce the laws they're meant to. Are you aware of the number of people prosecuted for the predatory lending, trading of knowingly toxic mortgage backed securities and fraudulent documentation the banks used to foreclose on thousands of homes?
Cont.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 No those regulatory agencies will always get corrupted especially if they have huge power and are unelected bureaucrats. It's so simple, get it through your head. In the free market people will vote with their dollars and let bad companies who cheat their customers fail. Especially in our day and age where communication between people has gotten so easy.
Agencies like the FDA have killed more people than they have saved by preventing good drugs for example. That's a fact.
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 Voting with your dollars doesn't exactly work if the good or service you buy ends up failing catastrophically months or even years later. That's the critical flaw in the "free market is perfect" argument. The mere fact that you think because the FDA requires rigorous testing and experimentation in order to approve new drugs and enforces basic sanitation laws in order to prevent toxic food, proves you market libertarians are delusional. Pure baseless conjecture.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 The free market is certaintly better than the FDA. If I can sit here and tell you all the facts but you in the end just call make delusional and won't face the truth then there's really something wrong with you.
As I said, did you know that a study proved that the FDA has actually killed more people by preventing life SAVING drugs from getting into the country than it has safed by testing and prohibting certain drugs?
People didn't die from food poisoning all the time before the FDA.
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 You can't hold criminals accountable without laws and enforcement agencies. If the principal holds true for robbers holding a bank hostage, it does for Wall street criminals and banking executives holding the economy hostage as well.
eagles980 3 weeks ago
@eagles980 Well they already commited a crime and adding more bureaucracy and making the government bigger isn't going to help, we can only solve our problems if we shrink government and try to control Washington.
antonio3p1 3 weeks ago
@antonio3p1 I've wasted far too much of my time arguing with you and your "facts". I'll just go ahead and move on now. Have a good one.

Cenk, let's be fair: Mitt Romney obviously needs all that money. Otherwise he'd be homeless.

Well, our tax rates helped in those mid-20th century days...but the main reason the US was doing so well is because post-WWII we were the only large, advanced country with money and that wasnt destroyed.

republicans want to turn back the clock ... "restore america" ... except for the part where the wealthy used to pay a fair tax rate

Wtf Cenk, why is it "tremendous" that he gave a bunch of his income to the Mormon Church???
If he had given it to actual charity, I'd agree with the "tremendous", but not with giving it to a religion / institution / corporation.

I don't think it makes you a good person just because you pay your taxes to a government whose bombs and sanctions lead to the deaths of hundreds of thousands of innocent civilians overseas.
RKAddict101 1 month ago
@RKAddict101 All of our money doesn't go to that... portions of it do. The main issue in that sense is reforming the military and getting rid of the Military Industrial Complex so we have less reasons to fund these ridiculous wars and terrible bombings. The other portions go to useful government programs that need to be funded and used to help the citizens that need it most.
LibertyInProgressNOW 1 month ago
@LibertyInProgressNOW You honestly think if Romney gave more of his money to the government, it would actually go to "necessary" programs? The only reason the government will raise taxes if they want to fund Wallstreet.
RKAddict101 1 month ago
@RKAddict101 Yeah but people like Romney are pushing for wars and war profiteering - look YOU AINT A BILLIONAIRE and government WHEN DEMOCRATIC is ON YOU SIDE - turn off you am radio and stop watching Fox...

@StunnedByStupidity Democratic government is on my side? No, a democratic government is on the majority's side. I am am unfortunate minority --- the individual. But in our current system, the government is on the side of whoever has the big bucks. To say I have any control over such a system when my vote only counts in a tiebreak is hilarious.
RKAddict101 1 month ago
@RKAddict101 Yes, democracy has been undermined by scum like Romney - but look at WHAT THE PEOPLE WANT - and they are on your side - you are clearly confused about the finer details of what is going on... Taxes IS YOUR FRIEND - as is GOVERNMENT - you dont know this because the right have spent a fortune on propaganda to fool you...
StunnedByStupidity 1 month ago
@StunnedByStupidity Essentially every government in the world is corrupt, and they are corrupt for a reason. When you make one organization that is allowed the use of aggressive force, but people in general are not, the people that want to use aggressive force are the ones that will end up in that organization. It's not like it's a coincidence or something that "scum like Romney" end up "undermining" democracy. Democracy was made to be undermined.
