  • After listening to this twice.I think I understand her meaning now !!! The feeling was never known till I heard this WONDERFUL song.....Remember !!!!!!

  • Devestatingly beautiful..the marriage of song and artist is just stunning...I don't have any of her albums from the early 70's , I"m stuck in Arlen-land, but i need to start getting them.starting with this.

  • wonderful pics and ...this song, omg, a perfect performance . BE AWARE is also soooo difficult to sing!

  • WONDERFUL BABS . YOU AND MARILYN DID WONDERFUL

  • Bab’s is the ultimate and always will be. She has always been perfection. But I would love to hear Linda Eder perform this. I have seen both Bab’s and Linda in concert and while Bab’s always gives me chills, Linda makes me cry. She has an incredible powerful and perfect pitch and range that will blow you away. She and Bab’s should do a duet. It would blow speakers apart.

  • Her voice is like no other! She is a favorite of mine!

  • OUTSTANDING AND WITH BACHARACH BOTH LEDGENDS

  • Love me some Barbra! :)

  • A lady with class

  • WOW!! I have heard Ms. McCoos version many many times, but never heard Ms. Streisand sing it. She does a TREMENDOUS job!! I'm gettin' goosebumps because it reminds me of the 60's when I was a young kid!! Just the arrangement, the instrumentation, her voice, everything.

  • Barbara's good, but Marilyn McCoo owns this song. No contest there. And I agree, Babs sounds off in the first few bars. Believe it or not, singing wasn't even what Barbra liked most, it was acting that was her favorite. She sang to pay the bills.

  • Its a real shame Karen carpenter never got to make a full version of this -_-

  • She always proves she can sing anything and make it sound great. I agree however that Ms McCoo owns this song.

  • Yep, with one less egg to fry, Miss Streisand should put less schmaltz in the pan...

  • Sorry but Marilyn does own this and Barbra doesn't even sound so great in the first few bars

  • Barbras voice is great but Marilyn Mcoo OWNS this song.

  • Barbra is one of the greats- but let the record show that One Less Bell to Answer was made a hit in 1970 by the Fifth Dimension( featuring Marilyn McCoo). Check it out. Sometimes Youtube causes the wrong artist to get credit for a hit song.

  • classic....one of a kind....one in million...performers like Ms. Streisand or of the past; sad to say! Nonetheless she brings such pleasure!

  • one less bell to answer, meaning when a man that you just broke up with is still on your mind and its killing you deep into your soul that your stomach hearts.to all of you that went through this ,,, I understand , just hang in their

  • Glee? Barbara Streisand? THE FIFTH DIMENSIONS DID THIS IN 1970!!!!!! HOLY FRAK!!!! The second half was covered, quite bloody well - I might say - by the late Luther Vandross (A House is Not A Home). Interesting how they bled together here. Barbara still sounds really good. I like it.

  • Glee? Barbara Striesand? THE FIFTH DIMENSIONS DID THIS IN 1970!!!!!! HOLY FRAK!!!!

  • Burt Bacharach can bask in the glow of Streisand's sterling performance of his beautiful songs.

  • When Barbra sings this song her voice is so powerful that the melody of this song can not simply keep up with Barbra..she is literally wanting to blow this song away and that tells you what kind of voice Barbra has...simply outstanding.

  • Beautiful.

  • Nobody sings this like Streisand. The voice and the passion are unmatched to this day.

  • Only Barbra could get away with doing a fkn duet with her damn self. Legend. <3

  • Barbra is fantastic. But I preffer the Glee's version!! Mmm Sorry, but I love Kristin!!

  • My favorite part of this song is the echoes of "since he went away..." at the very end. So beautiful! A true classic!

  • Just saw it on Glee, it's episode 16 of Season 1 on Disc 5 from Netflix. It's wonderful.

  • I didn't Barbara Streisand was THIS hot when she was young?! Damn! And I thought she was a total oldie in Meet the Fockers :P

  • Comment removed

  • This is awesome,

I didnt realize that Glee did the exact same arrangement until I saw the episode. This is absolutely remarkable.

  • This is fantastic! :-)

  • She is one sexy woman.

  • I really don't understand why everyone is obsessed with her version of this song...

  • no one can sing like her

  • Love both Barbara & Marilyn's versions. Barbara's usual soaring & theatrical version works as does Marilyn's more raw soulful version. Although not a great fan of most of Glees reinditions I was moved by Glees version of this song.

  • Love you Barbara, you are the best! None of the pop stars of today are fit to lick your boots.

  • you will also note they lifted the happy days are here again duet from Streisand and Garland, right down to the outfit BS wore on the TV show where she appeared with July

  • @nancystardiva Yeah i was squealing with Barbra pride. Thank god Ryan Murphy is a Streisand megafan

  • Perhaps it's just my stupid iPhone...but this vid won't load.

  • this is the best thing in the world EVER! what's better than a Barbra DUET?!

  • I am not a real big Streisand fan but this medley is about as good as it gets ... her talent is beyongd reproach ... add a Bacharach composition and you have musical magic ...

  • i relly like luther vndeross version of a house is not a home and marilyn mccoos version of one less bell to ring -

but babs is the consumate performer

  • Amazing!

  • Haha Howard Banister and his igneous rocks. love that movie.

  • Barbra is good, but this song belongs to Marilyn McCoo.

  • @RochelletheRealtor ...chalk another one up for the McCoo version. Streisand has always been about the voice, McCoo's voice matches hers and her version is just better, probably a lot of it is that I don't particularly like easy listening. McCoo's version also crowds easy listening territory but the arrangement and backing vocals of the 5th Dimension give it more bite, at least to these ears.

  • awesomeness :)

  • barbara would do a duet with herself...

  • Haha only Barbra Streisand would have a youtube video entitled "Duet w/ Herself"

  • she was an is the prettiestiest woman in the world no one can match her voive this video does her justice as one of the tops we wiil ever see

  • What a beautiful medley. What a voice. What a talent. Thanks for this post. Don't ever take this away, please.

  • @necktieguy1

One of the greatest voice of all time. Someone said Susan Boyle is a better singer. My f......god, some people have shit in their ears !!!

  • a true artist with a real voice we were lucky to have artists from the 60 s and 70s ,nowadays what do we get? Britney Spears ,Madonna and other wanna be artists

  • @louheff the entertainment industry simply does not care any more its all about show me the money.

  • @kyolym agreed ,there are no real artists today or music .all we have today are memories of a time when music was music

  • As good as the version on Glee was..you still cannot touch this version by Barbra...she is the Best!

  • wow

  • Incredible!

  • Thank-you for giving us yet another GREAT Babs moment... Loved her most in her five and dime days but... she's still the top to me. Oh and as much as I am enjoying "Rachel" in Glee (she IS pretty great), I agree with Vocal Adrenaline lead's comment about Rachel's rendition of Don't Rain on my Parade lacking Barbra's depth... that was a given... but I am glad he cleared it up none the less...hehe.

  • @pbarbieri68 OH MY BABS ,,, THIS VERSION IS SOOOO MORE CLASSY AND JUST AS GOOD

  • @sierria64

Sorry to burst your bubble, but this is not a version

it is the original mash-up recorded circa 1971!

    Spread the good news!

  • thanks!

  • loved kurts rendition on glee, lovely pure voice! enjoying all your comments nice to read what babs diehard think

  • i didnt know she sang this song that asome did she sang this in a movie

  • of course a duet with herself...lol still, such a beautiful song. LOVED IT ON GLEE!

  • whenever i see or hear anything bout barbra streisand, it reminds me of fran from the nanny! hehehe

  • One less egg to fry...i really like the Bacharach and David songs...I'll never forget their memorable music and lyrics. Im brazilian and we grew up listening our music (bossa nova...) and the american standards. Lorena - SP

  • Wow! Just no mistaking that voice! Love it and thanks for posting!

  • Beautiful, beautiful, beautiful!!! x

  • This is a beautiful version, and I absolutely love Barbra Streisand, but this isn't her song. Marilyn McCoo just made the song what it was. It's probably the best version out of all the renditions anyone has ever really made. I heard this song wayyy before Glee, and I liked it, but it just wasn't as good as Marilyn McCoo. But I will always love Barbra <3

  • Ooh what's up doc girl!

  • breathtaking :)

  • Dear God, please let me grow up to be half the singer that Barbra is.

  • Beautiful but Marilyn Mc Macoo did it with the finesse of soul, grit and angst. Both were good !

  • I like this song so much, thanks to Glee.

  • I found this after hearing it on Glee, I have completely fallen in love with this song. I just wish I had Barbara's version years before, it's sooo good.

  • I LOVE BARBRA!!!!

  • Duet on Glee was amazing, but holy fuck, Streisand! No one can compare.

  • wow barbra is so beauiful...i never noticed

  • babs need to guest star on glee. they clearly love her, what with making dont rain on my parade the big mid-season finale (even though no one in the target demographic probably recognized it, being too young). they've already gotten idina, kristin, and neil patrick harris...all they need is babs.

  • WOW! I'm speechless. :-o

  • Could you imagine Barb and Judy having done this song. OMG LOL.

    I love them both.

    RIP Judy

  • She has an AMAZING voice but i think the Glee one is just a Tad bit better

Barabra has a great voice though!!

  • This recording from the "Barbra Joan Streisand" album, and "Since I fell for you" from the same album, are in my opinion, THE most fantastic and beautiful female vocalist numbers ever.

The harmony and power here is just incredible !

  • I noticed glee used the same arrangement aswell. Glee did it brilliantly. One of the best episodes but if your going to use bacharac songs your going to do well. class.

  • She is one of a kind .........Madonna,Lady Gaga this is a STAR!!!!!!! Watch and learn

  • i always ♥ barbra . . i love her rendition . .

    i alxo love gLee's version . .

    always a gLeek . . c:

  • Gorgeous!!!

  • Only Barbra Streisand would do a duet with herself, gotta love her

  • I wonder if it is only us Barbra megafans who noticed that the Glee version of One Less Bell was in fact Barbra's identical arrangement. I couldn't believe they did the complete medley version with House is Not a Home. It was outstanding, and I'll bet there will be Emmy nods.

  • @mikesterSTLMO it was so beautiful! I hope there will be nominations. They did the song justice and (in my opinion) Barbara's arrangement is stunning and the best.

  • @mikesterSTLMO i'm a chavlike thing living in london and even i noticed it, lol and yes i've spent the last week telling my friends that if the Glee version doesn't get some sort of Emmy nod i will be very violent towards television in generel lol, my m8s aren't reallt sure what the song is, but good upbringing has taught me to defend whats right lol :-)

  • @snubblebunny OK, I get that in England a "mate" is a friend, and "bloody" does not necessarily pertain to plasma, and even that a "fag" is a cigiarette .... but what the hell is a "chavlike"?

  • @mikesterSTLMO lol i mean i live in an area that is very...um... non commerical... look up chav and Ali G and u have a good mix of the culture i'm emmersed in, i'm not exactly the most culturally standout-ish when it comes to representing that culture. i'm pretty much a 67 year old in a 22 year olds body lol, Chav is a status here so i just meant chavlike in a sense of the circles i run in, either way, this is amazing (the vid)

  • @snubblebunny Well that's better than being a 22 yr.old in a 67 yr. old body:)

  • @snubblebunny I love to think that a chav appreciates a song like this. And that you think you might be a 67yo in a 22yo body. I'm more the other way, 25yo in a 52yo body. Onya mate! I hope you appreciate Streisand as well.

  • @mikesterSTLMO Well I certainly noticed it in about a nanosecond, primed perhaps by Kurt's earlier rendition of A House is not a Home (It was Kurt wasn't it?.....) It's my favourite song from the first album of Babs that I ever heard. The whole album is a constant joy to listen to.

  • @BambiAnneDear Barbra Joan was a real thrilling time in Barbra's career as she was transitioning into glam pop rock. I have neve tired of it either. BTW, you have a most interesting, beautiful, and unique screen name:--)

  • @mikesterSTLMO Not bad is it? Try the initials. It's a performing name I've used. I just re-registered here and all variations of my usual screen name were not available.

  • Saw it on Glee, and while noone and nothing can compare to The Barbra,

the duet on Glee was outstanding, gorgeous harmony!!! The whole show

    was beautiful music!

  • @bahkate It was my favorite music-wise!

  • @bahkate marilyn macoo owns this song , however

  • @bahkate so true. doesnt even come close to The Barbra version. cant touch this.

  • glee brought me here :)

  • glee brought me here too.....

  • this song is going to be on gLee !!!!!!! <3 <3

  • Barb is a genius but this song does not suit her.

  • my favorite song... her voice... i wish i could that.

  • She's like buttah!

  • I'm confused by her wanting to make films. Can you imagine being able to sing like this and wanting to ever do anything else?

  • wow

  • Two legged Ardvark.

  • @RsldDecapod That's not nice.

  • I like all of this, but that moment at 5:57 when she sings a duet with herself is just amazing.

It makes logical sense that one person's voice should resonate with that same voice, but it still makes all the little hairs on the back of my neck stand up.

  • I love Barbara, but Marilyn owns this with all her soul!

  • @notbatman1000 I think that you are right. Barbara is excellent in this medley, but I am still think of Marilyn McCoo.

  • Good...but Marilyn has more heart. In fact, playing both versions to my teens they gave a "thumbs up" to Marilyn;s version. Me too! This version is all about Barbara's voice and not the character of the song. .

  • Barbra Streisand is unsurpassed. I don't think I've ever heard a voice so beautiful.

  • Having listened to both versions, I can only say that those who love Ms Streisand, will love this awesome interpretation. For myself, loving Marilyn as I do, her version, " The 5D", still brings me to tears. You are both icons, beautiful & angels among us. GBY to you both. Wolfsky9

  • i still like luthers version of this song best

  • WOW! Another awesome version!

  • Marilyn's version is for the radio listening public--keep it short and sweet....Barbra's is more of a sweeping interpretation....both very very good.....

  • Both done very well ... different but well done ... Personally I like Sheryl Crowes version ... but more importantly was Bacharach/David 's ability !

  • I've listened to both Babs and Ms McCoo's renditions of this piece and I have to say Barbra owns this piece, the range and power, sensitivity and depth of her voice outshines all would-be divas on this song. (All due respect to Ms. McCoo's beautiful performance as well) This is the studio recording yes? The performance she did of this song on the Burt Bacharach Show displays Barbra even better than this, (doesn't seem possible huh? but it IS! :) Beautiful clips of Babs here too(what a babe!)

  • I actually appreciate the difference in quality between this rendition and that of 5th Dimension. I don't agree at all (clearly we're all entitled to our opinions) that Barbra's version lacks soul. She's a completely different person than Ms.McCoo, so it makes sense that the mood of the song may change. And even if her voice doesn't do it for you, the instrumentation alone is enough for me.....i love it.

  • Barbra's version here doesn't compare to the 5th Dimension's - because it doesn't have the same soul - plain and simple. Sorry Babs - you have an incredible voice - but didn't do this song justice.

  • Barbara Streisands tonality and voice sounds the same throughout the words of many songs -listen carefully and you'll hear - it's tiresome and boring. A much better rendition of 'One Less Bell to Answer' is by Marylin McCoo of the Fifth Dimension!

  • a true legend. No one today has the talent this woman has. You go Barbra. T

  • Babs is UNIQUE indeed!

    Glorious vid!!

    Thank you for uploading!!

  • So much in power in this song.

  • Barbara Streisand surprised me with her excellent rendition of B. Bacharach classic. I thought 5th Dimension version was definitive one, but now I am in two minds.

  • Barbra is The Singer and became a legend. What a voice!!!

  • But that dang nose is what makes Barbra Barbra. It's a trademark, don't touch that!

  • brings on goosebumps every time i listen to it.

  • babs does this great, but i truly prefer the 5th Dimension version.

  • funny but well said...an incredible voice indeed..

  • Obviously, you are completely, ridiculously, and clearly, Not musically knowledgeable YouSpamTard! Nasal tones? I think your huge ears must have a lot of gooey, yellowish green, wax. So full of it! I wish whatever you think you hear should not only BITE you in the ass, you should get a good swift kick in the ass. Go watch TV and play Solitaire instead of listening to music. You have no idea what you're talking about.

  • I know for years she debated with herself and doctors about if she got a nose job to help her looks some, would it affect the sound of her voice. Of course it would, so she never did get the nose job. You are a stupid fuck spamtard know it all know shit dumb fuck Sheesh911. I grew up with this woman and have been listening to her for some 45 years or so, dumb fuck know it all, dumb fuck spamtard troll.

  • I agree....

  • This is one of my favorite Streisand songs. And i find the "Barbra Joan Streisand" Album to be one of her finest. She´s truly terrific yesterday, today and always. I love you Babra Streisand.

  • It is one of my favourite songs and album. Her voice is truly amazing on it...

  • Proving once again that nobody can match Streisand but Streisand...and nobody ever will. Period.

  • Yes!

  • i dont pick up after men, they pick up after me(if"men"is what you want to call 'em).anyway, notice how the girl in the song gets used and dumped.that's what she gets for being a doormat with no self respect. barbara steisand has a great voice and a great face .

  • this is a good version a more classic taste to it ... boy this is good

  • could not agree more,what a performance

  • IT IS.

  • I listen to this song over and over again on my mp3. I love her rendition of "One less bell to answer"- one of her best!

  • I bet i´ve listened to it more than you have. Want to bet?:))))))

  • Barbra, I wish only that you & The 5-D with Marilyn, could have done this magnificent song together; that would have been a duet for the ages. You---Marilyn--it would have been music Heaven. Wolfsky9

  • A voice of an Angel!! God Bless her, ever and ever!

  • Ahhhh. Her Royal Voiceness. She is a treasure to the entire world.

  • I love Barbra. There is no one word that can describe that voice. Love this song so much.

  • My older sister had this album in the early 60's and I remember sneaking in to her room to listen to this song over and over again. Barbra is fantastic

  • I'm thinking it must have been 'People" I listened to in the 60's since this came out in '71. LOL I did listen to this quite a bit but it had to have been after 71.

  • hey u suckers, i have this song on vinyl

  • True. Today being a singer is first being a Popstar--the image. Madonna, for example, would never have made it without the press and TV and MTV (especially) to sell her Image., thus, compensating for real talent....like Streisand's. What is amazing that, with her off-bear looks (that is, Image)Streisand STILL truly made it....on great talent alone.

  • @eldiran2 ...I think your assessment of Madonna is a little 1/2 baked. Just because she was an unapologetic skank from day 1, she has endured a lot of unwarranted prejudice against her ballads, which rank among the best of the post-Elvis era. It is hard to imagine anyone bettering "Live to Tell" or "Crazy for You," especially Streisand.

But this is like comparing apples to oranges. Streisand does easy listening and broadway material mostly whereas Madonna is a straight pop singer.

  • @911insidejo8 Point made. But labeling Streisand as "Easy Listening" (which is done now, after the fact, about all 50's/60's ballad singers, Sinatra, et al) is misleading and inaccurate. Perhaps you aren't aware that her earlier work was a bit jazzy, and that she had a couple albums of Rock, one of Classical, and the 2 Broadway albums came much later in her career. Madonna is, by contrast, pure Pop, nothing more.

  • What a voice!!!!!. Dione Warwicks version is terrific too.

    Hear it see for yourself

  • i got goosebumps all over. what a marvelous rendition.

  • Both versions are wonderful, & express the aching loss of this song. I've also wondered if anyone could/ would, sing a song like this on that "Idol" show--I fear not. too much class. Wolfsky9

  • She is the Best Ever

  • No doubt this is the best female singer in my life time. Only Frank and Dean can come close.

God made this woman the way she is. Why he made her the best singer ever and a complete fool at the same time is something I will never understand. It's his call. Thanks Jesus

  • lol can you elaborate on the "complete fool" part?

  • Complete fool?

Your probably refrencing to her political views.

Barbra may be a performer/actor but first she is an american citizen.

  • She's absolutely UNIQUE! I just love her... Best wishes from São Paulo, Brazil.

  • This song just kill me! It reflects my inner feeling...hits me real hard!

  • Probably would be a week 1 elimination on American Idol. Shame that people don't have this type of music generally available to them to see how good music can be.

  • No One can sing this song better than Barbra!
