@futuremodal the translation is online... I think its best to go with what u feel and see with this song/vid because the lyrics dont directly apply to the vid. The music does though. Brings tears to my eyes each time. Just wallow in the emotions it stirred and be satisfied ;)
This song is the fateful one and then... I fell in love with Sigur Ros. I tried to think about what kind of music is this one comparable to, but i realized that despite of my wide range of music taste, huge music cheering I have never heared something like that. This is how I imagine the angels make music.
@JonnyCashmore Why would i do something so stupid like growing up? If everybody does so than music and art itself would be already dead, can't you see what is this song about? To stay a child inside helps me to do amazing things in my life, my friend, and noone will ever ruin this for me :)
@futuremodal duhhhhhh! They aren't singing in any language my friend. Your comment is why stupid ignorant Americans should be silenced from making obtuse and ridiculous statements about things they can't possibly begin to comprehend.
Sigur Ros has inspired me in so many ways,I can't even explain.Their music is beautiful and unlike many I've heard, their videos and the cinematography in them is breathtaking.
When i heard this video for the first time it opened my mind up to music, life and everything. I'm now a huge Sigur Ros fan. Jokingly, they might be to music what marmite is to food, but when you get it, you really get it. Special, powerful, magical music.
The last kid doesn't die. Look at his shirt and when you see the faces of the kids you see the same shirt. Trust me I went back a few times. The way the music cuts off like that when he jumps makes it seem like he fell, but if you watch it then you will see he didn't
yeah that got me too, i had to rewatch it, u can see his smile, telling you he isnt, they could of done a better job, but this video and cinematography is down right amazing, best music video that i have ever seen.
yeah, but for all you know he can be falling to his own death and not know it. he might feel like he's flying and that's why he's smiling, but he really could be falling...
Galdra: the director said he did not fall for him (read the whole sentence?) and that it was left ambiguous on purpose.
What makes you biject artwork to a specific interpretation anyway? So you've "understood it to grips" and put it on a shelf, happy? I like the opposite. Explore worlds of emotion that it inspires, the richer and more diverse, the better.
Would you now please look up Saeglopur video and tell if the kid drowned or he survived? :D And Untitled #1 (Vaka)? And Svefn-g-englar?

The leader(drummer) makes up a dream; then the young brave(tiger) young lady and the other follow. The non-believer dies. Purest form of art. Inspiring greatness
not true... this song, as well as some others, are actually in icelandic -- glosoli, or "glowing sun", actually has real lyrics that you can look up online if you'd like, in both icelandic and english
if you like this kinda stuff you should maybe check out some old Brit shoegaze stuff from the early 90's? maybe slowdive? worth a look on youtube if you have 5 minutes! Just a suggestion..
they only used 'hopelandic' for one album didnt they, hardly a language, its noises to fit the song, some of the 'lyrics' words were created afterwards by fans, fuckin awesome stuff!
I just figured the dot was the last kid, washed up on the shore. He'll probably wake up with a terrible headache and say "Whoa, what the heck was THAT about!"
I noticed that the director has a shot of two people kissing in each of his Sigur Ros videos. Without trying to read two much into it, I think its so the audience can see how each is unique. It says something different different when the two little kids kiss in this video, as opposed to the two gay boys kissing, opposed to the mentally retarded people kissing in the field, opposed to the kids with the gas masks touching the tubes to their masks together, etc.
When I went to Iceland, I couldn't put into words the great place it is. This does. I love you Sigur Ros, and I love you Iceland. From the western U.S., Love.
yeah, sigur ros is one of my favorite bands ever and i am a metal fan...like...for real metal...not that ACDC and Metallica bullshit. Brain Drill, Beneath The Massace, Necrophagist, JFAC...that kind...but sigur ros is the music of gods
I don't see the deep symbolism as beautiful but actually as the self destructive habits of war u see the kids all get riled up and follow the drummer boy (obvious symbol of war) then they go far in search of glory or whatever and jump of a cliff in hopes to soar seems to me to that they will temped fate to get glory under the leadership of a drummer, so maybe I over analyzed it but seems like a mediphor of war
It is a boy and a girl. The girl goes to a Music school in Reykjavik and the boy is from a local theatre. I think his name was Siggi... and I don't remember her name if I knew it at all.
the little kid doesnt fall if You look close ...there's a close up of his face smiling while is flying..u can notice that cuz his wearing that strange hat =)
What's with the kid at the end who falls, is this supposed to be the Icelandic equivalent of the Pied Piper of Hamlyn? Beautiful video and song anyway.
Actually this version has a part missing from it. The kid didn't fall and die, he just had a little trouble learning to fly and in the full version they show him flying up and joining the rest.
I've watched this video too much, and I still haven't seen it enough. I'm a Death and Gore Metal fan, but Sigur Ros is my favorite band. Their songs and videos still give me shivers. Amazing shit.
I took it to mean that these kids are like the "spirits" of Iceland leaving (Water, Fire, Earth, etc) Like the Drummer realizes that Iceland had changed, and it was just time to go. Like the Elves leaving Middle Earth at the end of the 3rd Age. The little one was too attached to leave(?) so falls. I won't insist upon the idea though
The kissing part is so touching in my opinion. And lamia126, i think most kids r able to fly but the last one the little one was sorta... falling.. instead of flying.. it's unclear and it makes it interesting.
The video would have been much better if the kids had just fallen in the water or on the rocks and died. Now THAT would be a decent climax. But nooo, it seems they'd rather make some insipid peter pan-inspired load of well-filmed crap. Ugh. Sigur Ros is getting more and more shallow.
Explain how you would have made the video, in detail? Include the children falling to their death at the end, as well. Interested in your idea of brilliancy, leading up to such a decent climax.
Yeah, I agree. I would have shot the final scenes in x-ray vision, so that it could show the children's bones smashing into thousand pieces. Fighter jets and dancing gorillas would have also ensured the integrity of the video.
Tipical music fundamentalist... Now that this awesome band is getting the sucess they people like you start these stupid comments about them. It's sad, that's all.
the first few times watching...and even now, this one and it's message, make me bust up crying. its so heartfelt and deep within us all. if we could only open our front doors one day and live completely different.

Another fine music video brought to you by Stewie Griffin........
Seriously, what exactly is the storyline here?
See, this is why Europeans should never be allowed to make music vidoes - it gives French Avant-Garde a bad name!
PS - It is a beautiful song, wish someone would interpret the lyrics for us.
