I really didn't get this. Can someone explain this to me? I sat and I listened to the entire thing, just really trying to get into it, but it didn't go anywhere, it didn't move me, it didn't showcase anything resembling any spirit, or emotion. Any attempt to set a mood was shot because the lack of structure made the song consistently interrupted itself without presenting a cohesive musical idea. please, someone help me to understand this?

@Locothrope buy the cd, turn off the lights and press play. this is how i got into the song. at first listen i couldnt get it either, especially this first solo, but when the vocals come in it gets better. it's haunting, sad and beautiful at the same time. And the part starting in 5:25 is just jizz in my pants, when it turns into tetragrammaton. Jesus Amputechture is their best work. It may take time to get it because of the lack of catchy chours and lenghty songs, but it's worth the try.

@Locothrope I think we are just used to listen to short songs, and very repetitive, if you listen to beethoven for example, he broke the standards with his lengthy symphonies trying to overcome himself everytime, I think this is the concept, and also there's no lack of emotion, I think this is all very emotional, think about your regular day, we are a mess of emotions, we feel happy, sad, surprised and many other things in one day, that's what mars volta is all about, the chaos of emotions. IMHO

For someone who's name is associated with such a potent conciousness enhancing ethogen, i would think you might have a bit more creative insights. Omar rodrigues is not the most amazingly technical guitar player but he does a great job of doing what he intends to do. He conveys images, he's an auditory painter. have some respect.
