  • i prefer the sped up version. Makes it all the more funky. Awesome tune!

  • this cut, from that fabulous album circa 1970, is just plain erotic. No other word suits. Open a window. It's gettin' hot in here.

  • What an awesome musician, I just picked up his greatest hits record at a vinyl shop for 3 bucks and I have had it on table for 2 days....hope I don't wear it out! (I'd probably burn the needle out first) :)

  • I grew up on this record, love it, heard it a million times.... but I have one little problem with this version: It's too fast. Did you change the speed/pitch on purpose? This sounds like close to Db, however the original is a bit slower in C. Check the speed on your turntable:)

  • @kasponya you're right....the only way to have it posted on here is this way

  • Jazz, rock or pop, one of the best songs ever....especially like the vibes from 4:12 to 5:22....

  • Bloody good album and no crap video clips to flog his work , just sheer talent

  • Excellent performer! Music like this has opened the gates of Jazz to the rock generations of the 60's.

  • me and my partner used to listen to this record coasting on syrup, tuinals bka as xmas trees and some ganja, just kickin back at his crib. we was still attending the yard, Jack Yates, the greatest high school in the whole country! as salaamu alaikum, Mustafa from tha H town!

  • as a working flautist, stopping by to oay homage to Herbie, this was formative - amazing xx

  • Nice recording to Youtube - why can't we always get this this type of levels? Of course this is fantastic music! It seems to be a little faster than I remember it - almost like it is rushing to finish.

  • @lingh89 Your memory must be fading.Of course it's at the the correct speed.

What a fantastic album, with the tracks Memphis Underground & Battle Hymn Of The Republic being the standout

    tracks,in my opinion.

Just listen to that wonderful flute by Herbie, the fantastic guitar of Larry Coryell, the great vibes of Roy Ayers.

What a package of sheer talent on one album.

Long live Herbie & all the other artists.

    Magic,Magic.

  • i was born in 1969

  • Guitar sounds like a young Carlos Santana!

  • LOVE IT! Nowadays the Bass and guitars would be more aggressive, and there would be some changes... but this is just smooth and cool! Thanks for posting this.

  • Hold On I'm Comin', according to my parents, was the first song I requested them play over and over. I still listen to this album regularly! RIP Herbie!

  • Memphis Underground is a 1969 album by jazz flautist Herbie Mann, that attempts to fuse the genres of Jazz and Rhythm & Blues (R&B). While Mann and the other principal soloists (Roy Ayers, Larry Coryell and Sonny Sharrock) were leading jazz musicians, the album was recorded in Chips Moman's American Studios in Memphis, a studio used by many well-known R&B and pop artists. The rhythm section was the house band at American Studios. The recording was engineered and produced by Tom Dowd.

  • @loosestudios Love your comment!

  • @loosestudios thanks for the information .

  • @loosestudios Really? Roy Ayers and Larry Coryell? My father used to play this and thought it soooo cool. I later started listening to jazz and jazz-rock fusion. I became familiar with those artists and their contemps. I didn't have a clue that they were there all along. I thought that Miles was THE ONE who schooled all of the "young ones" who became the principals of the 70s & 80s (Herbie H., Shorter, Zawinal,......). I live and learn. Thanks for that info. And to karmencookie.

  • Screw it. Will this record be hard to find at a store?

  • @redl3ss amazon has it

  • @karmencookie I usually don't buy through the internet though. If I don't find it, I'll buy it from amazon.

  • @redl3ss oh, okay...do you have old record stores near you?

  • @redl3ss It's one of the easiest Herbie Mann albums to find (along with Super Mann). I just bought my copy really cheap :D

  • One of my favourite instrumentals/dance records/jazz records of all time - thank you so much for posting. My 7" was recorded in some CSG processed mono master ???? process. I play that with the original album as well. This sounds GOOOOODDDD!! Respect ..... ***DAVE♫♫♫♫DJ***

  • @Multi1628 My pleasure Dave! ♫♫ ʝαʑ ♫♫
