It's funny how so many assume stuff like this is staged. I'm a member of a train club too, and on occasion things go bad like this. It's usually this ugly, just like the real ones. At a club, you have the room to run prototypical length trains and when they collide, they actually wreck just like the real ones. It's amazing the positions they end up in. Our club has a bit of a motto, "If you're gonna wreck, make it a good one."
years ago and i'm talking around 30+years ago Model Railroader magazine made a film sort of poking fun at the hobby and it ended with with a runaway train on a club layout but it was all done like it was a real train. does anybody know its name and if its on youtube?
@crazytaxi1000 I did not see it happen but two MT freight cars made it to the floor makes for an expensive set-up. So it was an honest screw-up and I just had to document it.
Well, the whole idea of model railroading is to create something that looks like the real thing in miniature. That wreck looks very much like what we'd see in the real world minus the torn sheet metal and car contents strewn all over the place. Well done!!!
By the looks of it someone stopped the freighter and forgot the Amtrack was on the same track ... Amtrack rams freighter and derails. BNSF going to other way hits derailed Amtrack and derails.
Although I have to agree. The accidental wrecks do often look better than the ones set up. It may be something to do with actually seeing how they react to something like that rather than someone guessing how it would work out.
Plus you get the impression the guy was just careless not a dick.
8 people confirmed dead countless injured in today's horrific railroad tragedy early this morning ,oh hold on this is a train set up damn this is so life like.
such as a hole that you can reach into? or a flap that opens up? ive made a few tunnels with some friends outta fome and plaster and we never made any access points.
A hole in the backside of the hill will work as long as you can reach around there to it. On my other return loop the tunnel is long enough that I have two access points, biggest is the lake behind the dam and then second one behind the skyboard, third one is reached from underneath the benchwork of the module.
But length has a lot to do with need for access; long = several, short = one or two or none.

one time, at a trainshow, the guy lifted the layout's drawbridge and the train came, All hell broke loose! poor vehicle must have been so scared = (
TheDylanJoyce 11 months ago
@TheDylanJoyce The person who built the drawbridge failed to install the proper safeties, not surprising though.
squirrelkinns 11 months ago
@squirrelkinns Yeah. Our layout cuts power to the track before the drawbridge if the bridge is up.
