However, I do sing opera, love it... and I am not evil, violent OR rich. :)

Is it because opera's main audience is the wealthy, and because a lot of operas are tragedies, that they are associated with the affluent and the violence? And as far as villains, is it because the sophisticated villains are just so intriguing to us?
