Good Job! My only criticism is that sucking on a hose with your mouth is not the best way to start a siphon... especially in a reef tank - there are toxins that corals release that could kill you if you accidentally swallow the water (not to mention salt water will shut down your kidneys). Better to use a siphon bulb or one-way valve like some gravel vac.'s have, or even a python...
how do you get the water to flow through the water like you did. I don't know how and would like to so that changing my water for my fish tank will be easier.
People never use your mouth to start a siphon. Fix carry salmonella which can get you very sick. Just keep the tip of the hose in the water and quickly bob the hose up and down until water starts shooting out the other end.
I tried to help my friend siphon the water out if her fish tank one time and got a mouthfull of dirty fish water.... Ya I was in the bathroom for a few hours after that.
hi, whats the different between putting salt water in a fish tank or sweet water (filtered) ? does t depends on the kind of fish ? cause i actually dont know the names of mines
@BIGPOND400 it ads more volume to the sytem, and allows for better biological filtration. You can also put your protein skimmer and heater in the sump so it doesnt clutter your aquarium
guess what youtube?? i just bought a mudsucker and a goldfish the mudsuckers name is well i call him muddybuddy my goldfishes name is pancake!!! lol i was hungry tht day
hi dude, i planing to set up a quarium, the size is 75 gallons, but the water available in our home contains chlorine, what will i do? do i need to stock first the water befor puting the fish? or do i need to use chlorine removal? the fish will i put to the aquarium is flower horn.. im waiting for your help.. tnx paulo here!
that sand looks like it could use a good sifting. do a lil at a time if it wasn't done in a while, could raise the nitrate. look for air bubbles while sifting. this is bad and should be done more often. you can even siphon the sand making sure you dont suck the sand out of the tank
thanks for sharing the video ! i guess 10 % of water change is good for saltwater fishes cause they are small and are not dirty like Goldfish ! have a 55 gallon tank with goldfish and i have to change a least a 30 % water change once week to keep good quality water in tank
no, thats is actualy a realy well educated thought that you so eloquently rebuked with, " that was stupid, and I do 30% water changes every week!"
clean water is a limited resource.
and if you feel that the 30% doesn't matter, than you are sadly ignorant of the astounding truth associated with clean water supplies.
although, expecting somebody who strengthens their argument with an example of how they do worse to not be ignorant would be optomistic in the extreme.
Don't remove the fish! Take out 10% each week. If it's freshwater, vaccuum one third of the gravel bed with a siphon kit. If it's saltwater with only fish, (no corals or other invertebrates) you can also vaccuum 1/3 of the sandbed with a siphon kit. This will remove debris that pollute aquarium water and cause algae buildup and ultimately, severe stress to your fish that will cause their health to decline. Never take out more than 40% unless it's an emergency. Do the weekly 10%! It's worth it!
how do u manage to keep the salt gravity level stable? because water evaporates and the water become saltier! do you just add water with some other chemical to safely added to your tank or what do i do to safely add water.
Saltwater or freshwater? Either way, a weekly 10% weekly water change (not counting top-off from evaporation!) is in good order. Unless you have burrowing animals or sand-sifting invertebrates or fish, vacuuming 1/3 of your gravel or sand with a siphon kit is a must. (but don't vaccuum if you have live plants, of course!) The vaccuming is essential, as it removes sulfur gasses that build up as food and waste decompose. It also eliminates the nutrients that feed bad algae and most cyanobacteria.
Thanks for sharing people need to see this type stuff cause I ear people telling me this and that of stuff and have no ideal ware the info could of possible came from so to see it done correctly is awesome.

@2424Anthony You make the water by filling a bucket with tap water. Then you mix in dechlorinator and salt.

how often should i change the water for a 40 gallon tank?? 10% every month or every 2 week or every week. alot of people say different im confuse
NEY310LA 1 year ago
@NEY310LA 10% isn't to big of a change, so I'd say every 2 weeks would be sufficient.

no need to change the whole water, i usually do renew 1/3 of the water is enough, too much will killing fishes.

Its funny how this video is made for people who know nothing of cleaning fish tanks.
But he starts off by tells us to remove 5 gallons of water.
Then he explains why water changes are a must and the differences between freshly made saltwater and polluted water.
And finally he will add "clean freshwater in the system"(1:00) into his sump.
omfgsomental 2 years ago 2
Hmm so i have a 10 gallon or less tank. I remove 5 gallons(50% - 100%)
Oh gosh but wait how did he get the water out?
-Takes a hose with copper nozzle and fills a bucket-
5 gallons! great!(no conditioners added)
Hmm dump into sump?
Wtf is a sump...
I think the title should be, "Difference of clean water and polluted water"
I mean seriously, if someone had a sump for their aquarium, obviously know a think or two about maintaining water qualities.

Erm, no it's not. No it's not at all. Water recycles itself and any chemicals(almost all natural) in a fish tank aren't going to effect anything

Don't remove the fish! Take out 10% each week. If it's freshwater, vaccuum one third of the gravel bed with a siphon kit.
