I recently got a Casio WK-220 keyboard. It has 76 keys.
A few videos said I should get one that is a full 88 keys.
How necessary is this? The Casio I have was about $170 but all the 88 key keyboards I find seem to cost over $500. I may not know where to look but is 76 keys enough? I don't exactly want to gimp myself when learning how to play and I could still return it if some of the 88 key ones are reasonable priced and necessary.
If you have any suggestions I would appreciate it.
@EviLNox8 - you have more keys than I had when I first started (I only had 49 keys). This depends on what you want to do on the piano. Do you just want to play keyboards in a band or do you want to be a concert pianist? 76 keys is a great number to start out with in either case.
@getpianolessons Neither really. I just want to learn how to play as a hobby. It is something I have always wanted to do. It sounds like my 76 key is just fine then so I will keep it and get started learning this weekend. Thanks for the reply.
@TriumphantTonks - partially that depends on how fast you learn. But pop songs are much easier to play than traditional piano scores.... it's just a combination of playing chords and bass notes/lines. If you're soloing than you'll want to mix in the melody notes in as well. Visit my website for more info...
I have small fingers, I just bought a keyboard and im finding my maximum reach is from one C to the other... is that good enough? I have found one song i couldnt play because the right hand had to stretch like crazy. Also Im left handed... am i fighting a loosing battle? Ive saved up for a year to get this keyboard and im feeling a little deflated
@DamiensBabyBear - Children have small fingers too. Yet there's no shortage of child piano prodigies on YouTube blowing piano players like myself out the water. If you're a beginner you shouldn't be playing pieces that require you to stretch or jump uncomfortably. Remember you should ENJOY learning the piano or you will quit. Find an easier version of that song you want to play. And take your time, be patient with yourself and don't compare yourself with anyone else. Take care!
I love ur accent and teacing approach i want to learn but dont have much cash does it matter how expensive my keyboard is? Thanks and Happy new year :)
i've been playing piano for 5 years self taught and my fingering is off and i can't play with both hands, i'm 14, can you give me some tips on how to get use to the correct form?
@brianbl401 - well there's some good information in this first video about how to position your hands over the keyboard. And if you go through these videos one by one you should be able to develop some hand to hand coordination if you take your time.
hi i am 15 years old and i always wanted to learn to play the piano... How far do you think i can come by watching your lessons and how much could a piano cost ?
@IZAINTI - you'll want to watch a few different channels on YouTube to get several sources of piano information. I basically teach a beginner series. As far as how much a piano can cost... you can buy a decent digital piano for $300 or go up to $100,000 for the best grand pianos.
@Purexdetergent - the easy part is that you already know how to read music, understand rhythm, harmony, etc. The "hard part" would be learning a new way to position your hands/fingers for scales/chords. But you'd still have a head start*
im learning the piano basics so i can progress into writing songs . Since ive been wanting to learn for three to four years i decided that id try youtube and found thease. Do you think thease will help me ?
@DaAussieDramaQueen - for basics only (not for writing songs) but after you learn the basics, there are probably other vids on YouTube that will help U with making ur own music
@SpartanMarble - Most acoustic pianos have 88 keys (a full set). Digital pianos can vary on the # of keys but as long as you have 61 keys you should be able to learn at a basic level
Im thinking about going through all of these videos but first i want to know is the music Im playing going to be all memorization or will i actually learn to read music
@bobhoper123 No music notation is taught here. This channel is only for the very basics of finger coordination on the piano. But there are many other channels that DO teach that the advanced info*
Since I can't see exactly what you're doing I'll advise you not to do any fancy yoga moves on the keyboard.... however generally speaking there is a certain amount of soreness you can expect to feel if your fingers and connecting muscles/tendons are not used to performing such exercises. But like any physical activity, you're muscles will become accustomed to the movement you're asking your fingers to perform and you'll notice improvement in your physical abilities.
Yay!! I've found both amazing piano and guitar lessons on YT!! I quit taking piano lessons in the 5th grade, and highly regret it, now I would like to play in the talent show as a high school senior, and this is a great refresher and continuance of the lessons :D
Thanks for the video, great teaching, please keep up with the good work, Last night i found a piano and i played some noises for the first time but surprisingly i managed to get the first 20 notes on Hungarian Rhapsody right, so i thought i need a formal class type of material for that. your video was great,
last when i chatted with you on line you were about to make new video lesson and i requested that when you are done please let me know i would like to listen to your new video lesson, i have been waiting, would you be kind enough to elaborate on your new video lesson.
i will certainly thank you
i also wanted you to know it is always a pleasure to listen and learn piano lesson on your site.
Yes Vinod .... hello I remember you. Since we last chatted I've been working very hard on my Piano DVD which (I'm happy to say) will be out in exactly TWO WEEKS!
I f you enjoy my lessons here on YouTube then this DVD is what you'll want to watch next! If you prefer, I can notify you the exact day I release it*
Wow! Your comment is very inspiring! I'm 14, and I'm already kind of scared of being too old to start lessons... but you changed my mind! I might not be able to find the time to take private lessons, but I'll do my best to self learn!
Hey I was wondering, what's a good beginner keyboard to get? I was thinking of the Yamaha Np-30... something that would feel as close to a REAL piano as possible. Anyone have any suggestions? Any info would be greatly appreciated!
i have a casio lk-43 and i have taken lessons as a child but stopped due to being bored. which killed my mother. i am 17 now and based on the comments i look forward to using your videos to play for my parents on xmas:)
Man Brandon, that was great! I already learned a lot from the first episode. This is fantastic, once again thanks. I will have to get an electronic keyboard so that I can play along.
nice teaching and strategies there....your awesome as far as i can see...there's not much of a teacher who could teach us consistently...not even wants to post a video or something...you're awesome..but i have some request...if you could just put the camera sideways..then we would understand it more..the hand position and staff...but yah..thank you very much...!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
i havent yet viewed your lessons but judging from the comments.... are you seriously giving us free piano lessons? God bless you man.... if i were a rich man i would have sent you a present, but if i can teach myself and my daughter using these i will one day send you a song she played. All i have to do now is save money for a cheap electronic keyboard so i might be able to start teaching her and i. ha ha... hope we dont fail and give up.
