God of War 3 - Skip Half the Game (Speedrun Strategy NG+)

I made the mistake of breaking the third stone before pulling the lever, it ruined my save. In the end I just completed it on Titan anyway, which was satisfying but brutally difficult in places (there's a sequence of set-pieces and fights where you think "it can't get any harder after this" and it immediately does). It's good to know there's a way around the crashing, maybe I'll try it if I ever attempt a Chaos mode playthrough.

@millgiass Because the chain was broken on first visit to Hades, the game then lets you turn the crank the whole way around on first visit also, thus raising the labryinth.

I've been trying this for 2 days, and I can't get the chain breaking cutscene =.=. Maybe it's because I did the 3 trials first or is it because I triggered the Pandora cutscene first??

My main problem is that I just can't make the jump down there after breaking the 3rd stone no matter how I try T_T. So I had no choice but to jump from the Pandora statue up there, but when I break those chains nothing happens, the cut scene didn't even play, the chains just stay flying there LOL.....

There's another nice Skip to do. The part with the broken mechanism right after the Posiedon chamber and the topless girl. THeres 2 ways: 1) at the broken machine, do the infinite dash trick straight to daedalus room. 2) If u did the glitch to get all weapons on NG+, just power to mechanism with the Whip, and go to Daedulus room. This method completely skips Aphrodite, The Forge, and Cronos.

@cashmoney2k7 Its easier to go from the second swining grapple, you can simply glide to behind the bars as well, give that a try. If you use Jet Dash, try to aim to the left hand side of the pedastal that - you read - that is up on the upper platform.

@cashmoney2k7 One thing that I do (that is not on this vid because I discovered it after doing this vid) is that after jumping over the 3rd judges head, go into the room with the lever in it (but dont go through the portal, or crash!) then instantly go and break the chains. For some reason it works 90% of the time if you do this, I think there is some sort of timing issue after breaking the 3rd judges stone.

Success, somewhat!!! I finally got the cut scene immediately after breaking the chain, but the damn game froze up, I restarted the auto save, but the glitch didn't work, it plated the cutscene again in the wall. When I finally do get this, I will let you know. This will be the bane of my existence until I succeed

@franchiseboy83 As far as I know, it will only work if you get the cutscene IMMEDIATELY after breaking the chain. To date, it never works if you get the cutscene while squeezing through the gap in the cabin.

@franchiseboy83 If you got the cutscene INSTANTLY after breaking the chain, it should work. If you got the cutscene later on (while in the norrow gap Kratos squeezed through in the cave) it wont work. If the judges are headless after breaking the chain, it means it wont work. The judges must VANISH completely for this to work.

@franchiseboy83 Try this, after you jump over the judge's head, go into the room that has the lever in it (but dont go through the portal or...crash) and then go break the chain instantly. Thats what I do and I get it to work 99% of the time.

If the game crashes during the cutscene, restart the "Auto-Save" and that will put you in front of the chain again. If you then break the chain, it should work.

Okay I did this skip and never got the cutscene. I CONTINUED to play normally. After hades talked to me (which is when u talk to the pandora statue NOT NEAR the 3 judges) the judges had missing heads. I continued and at one point I got the cutscene randomly

@findlestick well, I returned the game (I rented it), but before I returned it, I was able to do this glitch and skip half the game XD You are right though. ALL of the judges need to be completely gone, and the breaking chain cutscene needs to be done right after. For my situation, I played normally, and then Kratos just stopped moving and was stuck in midair moving all crazy lol.

Btw, to get over the judges head easily, press X, then X+L1+Square VERY QUICKLY, then at highest point, DASH!!!

Well I just managed to do this today, and let me tell you without infinite magic or infinite Rage of Sparta Zeus can still kill you, sort of. If he does his full 3 punch combo and the last hit connects Kratos just falls on the floor and never gets up.

I would like to note I got the cutscene without it crashing and I never returned to the lever room. In fact I can only do it without going in there. Hope my minor findings help a little.

@findlestick Yeah, and I should mention for whatever reason, the explosive pots near the minotaurs were there when the skip worked perfectly, all other times the explosive bramble barrels were just gone. Also I killed the minotaurs since they would mess my jump over the judge up. So yeah the skip does seem a bit finicky about working.

Ok I tried this this morning. So I managed to get through the gate by dashing, then I went up and broke the 2 stones, then I went through the portal and pulled the lever, I then went back up top and broke the last one and managed to dash down from the top. I broke the chains and immediately as the cutscene began it crashed. So I turned off the console (even though the music for the scene was still going) and loaded the autosave, it put me up behind the third judges head. So I dashed over it.

@rubee666 Ive got a tutorial video on how to do it on my channel, I think its called. "Learn how to make Kratos fly". But basically if you keep both controllers pressed forward and keep L2 PRESSED DOWN permanently, and then spam "Square" while in air, Kratos will fly. BTW, you also need to have the bow selected beforehand. Hope that helps.

@Urken1231 That is a combination that wont work. At this stage it seems that you have to high jump over the 3rd judges head, then enter the lever room (seems to help the cutscene appear) and then break the chain.

So far this skip only works if you see the chain breaking cutscene instantly after breaking it. Not if you see it while Kratos is shimming through the cave.

@Whoopster Yeah, its a big chunk off a speedrun for sure. Im not sure what the percentage would be, but its...large. An early break of Gaia's heart might be game over, Im not sure that it can be done. But I always like to exhaust all possibility on a potential glitch, when its possible to do so.

@plopthepspking The game is unstable at the chain breaking bit. Ive pulled off this skip with success a few times now, so it IS reproducable. But sometimes it will crash during the chain break cutscene, or it wont play at all.

A few tips, dont move Kratos after the second chain is broken. And when you break the chain, try using only "Square" attack. You also have to do things in a perfect order, the game seems very fussy about this. Another tip, leave the lever room as quickly as possible.

@thisizntmikey To do the high jump you press 'X' and then INSTANTLY "X-L1" with a bit of a run up behind it. Then to grab a ledge, quickly press "L2" then "R-stick" forward in air (Dash) at the peak of the jump. I might do a tutorial up.

@edik23 I think that it might, but Ive realised the game is somewhat fussy in the order that things need to be done to pull off this skip.

But I think that may work, as long as you are not using the portal. Try it out, but heres a tip, when you break the chain try to use the square attack only and once the chain breaks, dont move Kratos an inch, I think the game can crash.

Ive just done this skip again with success, I wanted to be sure it was reproducable. It is.

Ok, that's good. But I'll tell you what wiill NOT work.

I destroyed all three judges, and then went to the area where you first talk to pandora. I jumped from there down to the chain, broke it, waited a few moments, then did the trials of Erebus (sp?) Afterwards, I went through the portal, and continued. I had the cutscene of the chain breaking as I was shimmying across a wall to get to the next area. I played through the game, and the Flame of Olympus was still there. Wont work.

One last question, when you did it in that order, were the judges just headless or were the judges missing completely? When I did it, the judges were gone completely. Also, did you do the first skip thats in the vid? (into the first portal)

@findlestick Looks like problem with my AV. BTW, I didn't skip the judges and did the 3 trials. Then I triggered the pandora cutscene after breaking 3rd head [where the rope to get across is] and THEN went to break the chain. The crystals on chain are gone, no cutscene played and chains are hanging in air.

There are still a few combinations left to try out with regards to this glitch. With possible different scenarios later on at the first crank pull the blue flame. Maybe even a complete "early chain break".

I think ur right, it looks like the main "ingredient" for this skip is for the judges to unload totally. And that only seems to happen if the game shows you the chains breaking cinematic instantly when you break the chains. Im not sure if the 3 trial are needed ot not yet, because I did this skip while also including the trial. More testing is needed.

With regards to the first skip being necessary, Im not sure at this date. More testing needs to be done to see what exactly causes the crank to be pulled all the way on firt attempt. I did what you see in this vid mainly because it worked.

But the skip needs to be refined, thats for sure. I also suspect there is a different wasy of doing this skip.
