@Bbfishman Thats pretty well everywhere, if your trap gets tangled or loss from your bouy then the crabs can get out. Im in BC Canada and we have the same rules.
It is an extremely smart rule. Note, rot cord is not used for the line connecting the trap to surface, it is to create a portal for crabs to escape if the trap is lost. A pot without a rot-cord escape port becomes a death trap, killing crabs for many years because crabs die inside, becoming bait for other crabs, and on and on. A lost pot with no escape port can kill thousands of crabs for no good reason. I'm an avid crabber -- rot cord is smart if you like crabbing.
"You take the front pincher" as he grabs the front leg....what a moron doesn't even know the difference between a leg and a pincher? I mean, how do you even confuse the two?
Harvesting legal sized crab isn't the problem. You are actually culling a predator of the next generation of crab and the next generation has less competition for food. Until a male crab is legal size a crab pot is just a source of food to them. Taking the undersized and females is what kills the crab industry off.
When I was young, the crabs here in BC only grow around 7 inches at maximum or at least the ones me and my family find by the seaside. I miss going crabbing (crab fishing, family's more busy these days and they made a mandatory license :/
great vid i live in seattle and go to golden gardens crabbing i used to catch alot of red rock crab always until one day i followed a guy to the deep end and caught 20 dungess per pot i guess im prety illegal i dont have a catch card and cach 20 a day woops
beautifully spoken. Great guide of sorts. Ever thought about politics? youde be like 1 of the only people able to speak what actually needs to be spoken...
Crabbing here in WA has changed. 10 years ago you could get 10 crab in one hour and now you are lucky to get your limit on the piers due to over harvesting, poaching, and the increased popularity of the sport is making dungness crabbing a tuff sport. Indians and Asians who got off the boat are notorious for over harvesting and poaching.
Asians and Natives are scapegoats. It's the commercial crabbers who pay about $250 a year, can put out 100 pots and take as much as they want in a day - WDFW estimates 1000 pounds a day. Meanwhile, I can put out 2 pots and I can only take 5 crabs a day.
this video is very helpful!!

@Bbfishman Thats a great idea. Take care of the land and enviroment. Why dislike them? because they have the same idea of hippies?
