It works to help you become familiar with words and what they mean. You will still need to study grammar separately. But it does help with understanding words as well as speaking and writing them. How sentences are constructed is something that you will have to study from another source.
DO NOT TRY TO TRANSLATE TO YOUR PRIMARY LANGUAGE is a good advice. My Japanese teachers never use English in the class. They use pictures and objects instead.
Warum luegst du, dass Rosetta Stone nuetzlich ist?? Doch! Es ist nicht nu Gegenteil! Es ist doch scheiss. Ich wuerde nicht deine Mama verkaufen fuer eine Kopie. Vielliecht habe ich einige Fehler gemacht, aber ich kann (nur in 6 oder 7 Monate) solch komplizierten Saetze schrieben... und das ist kein Dank an Rosetta Stone! Alles, Speichert ihr Geld! Sprachelernen ist nicht leicht!
Cant read? Basically dont waste your money on RS. A grammar book and Deutsche Welle is all you need.
The real trick to learning with this program is DO NOT TRY TO TRANSLATE TO YOUR PRIMARY LANGUAGE. When you look at the images try to think in (in my case ) German. Don't think "Okay that is a picture of a plate and the German word is Teller. So Teller equals plate. Got it." That won't work. Just look at the picture and think "Teller". Eventually, when the picture comes up you will just think "Teller". "Plate" won't enter your mind.
You're actually posting on whether it works or not but never really experienced it,that's major fail sorry, your opinion on rosetta stone is worth nothing
-_- Can any of you resist being asses? By use it, I'm pretty sure he meant actually apply yourself to it, and not just let it sit there after one use.
rosetta stone doesnt even work it does teach you to speak the language but it doesnt really teach you to SPEAK it. you cant sit down and have a well said conversation even the language teachers at my skool dont think it is something to practice with
So if i have 4 years of college would i come out proficient if i did a little every day until i graduated? I want to learn arabic but i am split between this and pimsluer. I hate rossetta stones guessing game structure
@pinkflowerbaby56 I think the key is to do at least 3 levels. You don't want to stop at level one because you will not get that much benefit. But things start to make more sense on level 2 and level 3.

@pinkflowerbaby56 I'm doing ok. I'm sticking with it. It is important to go all the way through Rosetta. I now suggest that you should get levels 1-5 and not just 1-3.
after the first lession, i found that i had to guessa t what they ment, or ask my friend who also spoke the langauge.(swedish) witch i found very annoying
@Sikeman214 Yes, you cannot do a single lesson and think you have it. You need to do LEVELS - I found the entire first level is too basic to be very useful. When you get into LEVEL 2 and 3 it starts to come together.
Yes, I think that the first problem is that you have to actually use Rosetta Stone for it to work.
In the beginning it is harder. But after you get past several hours of instruction it starts to really make sense and you get a feel for how the system works. I'm still on level 1 and I am learning a lot - and I do feel it is really helping me to learn German. Things are getting better each day. Now I can ask my wife questions in German and she helps me to refine my skills and correct me.
I've got the Korean version and have felt ripped off because of people giving it bad reviews. I'm so glad that your saying "it does work" and by you having a personal experience with it supports your view on the matter, so thanks.
@JordyBT You really have to use it to get the benefit. Do all the LEVELS that you have. That will take hours upon hours of time and THAT HAS TO BE helpful...
@tobeinformed Well, I used it (RS/K) 1 1/2hrs/day for months and never learned. Why? It is counter-intuitive and the pictures are ambiguous. I got to the point where I could get 100% on all the material but had no idea what much of it meant. Some of what I DID understand took me for-ever, and some I simply went to a dictionary out of frustration. I have never been so frustrated as with this program.
@kdammers11 Rosetta Stone is actually very easy to use. Just make sure you don't whiz through a lesson without understanding every word. In core lessons, they give you at least a couple of screens on the same concept to give you a chance to grasp the concept, but if the lesson moves onto something different and you didn't understand what it was just trying to explain, go back and have another look, and don't be ashamed to use a translator and/or dictionary.

Hm, have you finished Rosetta Stone and are you now fluent? I ask because the prevalent opinion is that Rosetta Stone sucks.

Well of course you have to use it for it to work. That's like saying "I bought a hamburger, but I'm still hungry, because I have not eaten it."

@ areyoureadyforthis - "I am always learning German, it is quite difficult" Or "I am still learning German, it is quite difficult".
Yes it is difficult to learn a language that is not your native tongue.
