@MishuTaste No I think the problem was the steady deregulation of the banking and insurance industries starting under clinton with the repeal of glass steagall and continued under Bush with the COmmodities Futures Modernization Act which lead to the creation of a bunch of small mortgage companies in the 2000's that were responsible for HALF of the subprime mortgage loans that went belly up in 07. Again, Obama is not the King, he has had to work with a GOP that would say no to free candy.

Had we not bailed out others, had we not deregulated banks, had we not forced banks to give loans to those who could not pay them back, we would not be in this situation. The problem is beyond Bush and Obama, but the lack of progress and the lack of fixing this problem falls on Obama's watch. Three years and we keep going down. He speaks well. But the ideas, the leadership, the finger pointing show a weak leadership. He has no answers but temporary minor fixes with little to no effect.

@MishuTaste No I think the problem was the steady deregulation of the banking and insurance industries starting under clinton with the repeal of glass steagall and continued under Bush with the COmmodities Futures Modernization Act which lead to the creation of a bunch of small mortgage companies in the 2000's that were responsible for HALF of the subprime mortgage loans that went belly up in 07. Again, Obama is not the King, he has had to work with a GOP that would say no to free candy.

@durhamdf I mostly agree. All we had to do was keep the Glass-Steagall Act in place, and ENFORCE it, and we wouldn't have these Wall St. protests. The Clinton/Bush legacy messed up this country almost to the point of FUBAR (sans the balanced budget). I think the main problem is selfishness. Many individuals/corporations want a grant from the federal government w/o any consideration of how that allocation of funds affects other people.
