I just tried the demo on PSN. I knew those waves couldn't be in real-time, and shooting at the water and throwing grenades in and feeling like they just go "through", as if it's covering a literal hole in the landscape seemed apparent. There's a reason why when you jump in, it cuts immediately to a black screen and doesn't even seem like you drowned in the water. It's kind of silly how these waves aren't real-time, and KZ3 is touted as PS3 graphics king...
It still looks bad ass. Plus, I'm sure other games do the same thing. PLUS, it's not even noticeable unless you stare at an iceberg... and who does that? Oh wait...
Who cares anyway. Most of that game has high res textures. That, plus all the other small details (it takes a lot of power to keep all those bullet holes in the walls)... consoles can only do so much. The game is still freaking beautiful.

In case you didn't notice. There are no reflections in Killzone because of the nature of the engine. Deferred shading allows to put more than 500 lights in a scene. But it makes reflections impossibly difficult. So water won't look like Crysis 2.
Yes it's scripted indeed... So what? Isn't it the purpose of developping a video game (especially on consoles which got limited ressources) to give the best overall visual effect? If you want to get everything the best looking, everything real time rendering etc etc.. why would you even play a game? Go get some physics rendering engine on a PC or workstation and play with it around lol. What's the point in doing this that you do on the video while.. you know.. PLAYING?

I am a PC game designer and it is so easy to just catch all of the illusions, and all of the tricks Console Developers try to pull to get fanboys into thinking that for example, Killzone 3 has the best visuals. It has good visuals, nowhere near Crysis 2 on DX11 PC however.

Halo Reach y Halo 3 tienen agua en tiempo real. Crysis 2 tambien. Half Life 2 tambien (y es un juego viejo). @JukemDrawles89 The controls are just one better element. Though the ending was somewhat poor, the entire campaign was a major improvement and through its still plagued with problems like all multiplayer games online, it still has a much more enjoyable online multiplayer. Killzone 3 overall is a vast improvement upon Killzone 2 but thats not to say it doesn't have its flaws. It could still improve which is a good thing.

I don't play a game for graphics. I realized this when I bought Crysis 2 and thought this blows away everything! I played it for about 20 minutes before burned it to pieces with my friend. The EXACT same thing goes for Killzone 3.

I am a PC game designer and it is so easy to just catch all of the illusions, and all of the tricks Console Developers try to pull to get fanboys into thinking that for example, Killzone 3 has the best visuals. It has good visuals, nowhere near Crysis 2 on DX11 PC however.
Also to this guy I quote, I bet you are one of those idiots that thinks good gaming PC's cost 2000 bucks. You can get a PC for 700 that max Crysis, or even Crysis 2 out...

The waves and icebergs ARE rendered in real time and display with proper proportion and perspective. Sure, the iceberg bobbing motion is scripted and they don't properly drift through the water with full physics... So what, they're just background doodads. You are ridiculous for posting this.

Halo Reach y Halo 3 tienen agua en tiempo real. Crysis 2 tambien. Half Life 2 tambien (y es un juego viejo). Este Killzone 3 es un fuckin timo con graficos fake por todos lado con escenas scripted y estaticas, hechas para engañar a los fanboys. Y si lo corres en 3D va a una resolucion menor que un juego de PS2, eso con Crysis 2 no ocurre.

Lo importante es el resultado final, la preciosidad de lo que ves. Ningún videojuego tiene un oceano interactivo, así que me importa un bledo la técnica que hayan usado. De hecho me gusta cuando le dan un toque artesanal a los gráficos, no todo es tecnologia. Ahora parece que si no todo es procedural no vale.

Though the ending was somewhat poor, the entire campaign was a major improvement and through its still plagued with problems like all multiplayer games online, it still has a much more enjoyable online multiplayer. Killzone 3 overall is a vast improvement upon Killzone 2 but thats not to say it doesn't have its flaws. It could still improve which is a good thing.

I don't play a game for graphics. I realized this when I bought Crysis 2 and thought this blows away everything! I played it for about 20 minutes before burned it to pieces with my friend. The EXACT same thing goes for Killzone 3.

And Gears of war 3 is running on a more updated engine then both so it will look overall superior. Especially since we haven't seen the updated graphics in single player. KZ3 was awful though, God of war was good. But it's only good for campaign and that's mainly why it looks so visually stunning.

Uncharted 3 will probably be the best looking game on any console when it releases.
