  • Mary was so beautiful in this show. As a 34 year old black man I would love to find a wife just like her. I guess that's not possible in this day and age. Maybe that's why I've had such a hard time with my search.

  • @oldschooldogy you are a good man. hang in there.

  • What is the song title and artist please? Great song!

  • @TheJenise302 Love is All Around written and song by Sonny Curtis.

  • love the theme song

  • Histrionic,screaming woman,sad.

  • Happy 75th Birthday Mary. Your one of a kind.

  • The theme song is up there with "Mission Impossible" "Mod Squad" and "Baretta" as my all time favs!!

  • The Mary Tyler Moore theme song and accompanying opening are one of the best in television history!

  • Funny how it says "Retro Junk" on the right bottom of the screen. What should today's supposed comedies say years from now, "Superficial Trash?"

  • Not many people will recognize how the violins at the end makes this one of the best theme music ever.

  • I remember an episode where somebody died, & Mary was being somber about it, but EVERYONE else was making jokes about it. Mary TRIED to get everyone to see that someone has DIED, which quiets them down for a few moments, then someone makes a joke & they start laughing again.

Later, at the funeral, the eulogist makes a report of the deceased's life, & Mary tries not to laugh, & the eulogist tells her that the deceased would WANT people to laugh, to which Mary sobs uncontrollably.

    What episode

  • @stevenscottoddballz

    Chuckles the Clown funeral

  • @hartss

Thank you VERY much! Now that I know the name of the Episode, I'll look for "Chuckles the Clown Funeral". Thanks again!

  • @stevenscottoddballz Actually, the episode is called "Chuckles Bites The Dust."

  • @DENo1MatchGameFan Yep. I found it. Thank you.

  • @stevenscottoddballz You're welcome.

  • I understand what you are saying and I basically agree. She isn't terribly funny but neither is Jerry Seinfeld. I have the opportunity to see him in January but don't really care to go because his jokes are terrible. Maybe I'll bring a book.

At any rate, teh same is true of his show - George is funny and so was Krammer until he fell down one too many times. Elaine ended up with her own show ( a chick show show so I didn't see it).

But, she, like JS, were good for the roles they played.

  • great channel... I love the late 70s and early 80s. check my channel, maybe you'll find something to add.

  • One of the happiest theme songs! Just makes you feel so good inside lol

  • I miss the 70s 80s i wanna go back

  • I Like The Part Where She Threw The Hat In The Air At The Ending Of The Opening

  • ITS MAH FAVORITE SHOW EVER ♥ **has the seasonsss** ♥♥♥

  • Best TV theme song ever

  • And to all the DOUCHE BAGS who are making negative comments on this... you're just reaffirming why I hate people these days and why the world has become a much worse place to live. Get a life losers! What have you EVER done that's made a difference in this world???? Nothing.

  • My mom LOVED this show when I was a kid. We're from Minneapolis, and hearing this theme song brings back memories. Brought a tear to my eye.

  • Im just here cause it was nominated one of top themes song...Honestly dont see anything special about...thanks!

  • @bacardipr05 ... you're welcome. We don't see much that is special about you either. To each their own opinion, eh?

  • @UnusualPresumptions Same Thanks take care...

  • thumbs up if peter griffin brought you up here

  • When you hear the Mary Tyler Moore Show theme song and then remember all of those wonderful characters you truly can take a nothing day and make it worthwhile.

  • I freaking love this show, and i miss it, and what happened to shows like this? Sigh

  • I would SO love to remake this video with ME playing MTM and Dave Grohl singing the theme song! Ugh! #yetonemorethingthatwillneverhappen :/ lol!

  • Seasons 1 and 7 had the best openings...

  • I loved her. Barbara Eden was my first crush as a kid and Mary was my next. I hate to admit it, but I fantasized about her when I did you-know-what.. I lived in Minneapolis just 6 blocks from the house they showed for the series. And that high-rise she lived in later, I was only a few blocks from that (they were both on Cedar Avenue).

  • I was too you when i first came out but started watching it when I was in my teens and kinda adopted the theme song for me and trying to grow up right.

  • LOVED this show back in the day. I think it along with That Girl fueled many a young girl's of 1960s and 70s dream of moving to the big city and making our fortunes lol

  • Mary tyler moore and the butcher who ruined her beautiful face-have robbed us all of something.God help us.

  • I remember watching my grandmas old tapes of the show, I had the biggest crush on mary tyler moore. if it wasn't for the 56 year age difference......

  • Thirty years plus and counting and I still enjoy this song,

Stephen Wayne Reno Friday, August 26, 2011

  • Grimgrams brought me here ;)

  • I wanna go back to that time.....

  • @boxerdogs11 I wouldn't mind a trip back, even if around this time I was in grade school. :)

  • Aww the nostalgia on nick at nite!!!

  • "OH, MR. GRANT !!!"

    ... sniff, sniff.

  • When tv was a simpler & more enjoyable experience

  • OMG i always loved mary tyler moore she was hot!!!!!

  • I was president of her fan club from 1990-2005. For back issues of "Mary" magazine, email me at maryfan5@yahoo.com

  • @dav1237

  • God bless you old school Nick At Nite

  • Blink brought me here

  • @frankshado

She hasn't had the surgery yet.

  • Is Mary Tyler Moore DEAD????

  • @MrBigred1963 No. She had surgery. I think she had a small tumor on the lining of part of her brain.

  • I hope her surgery goes well.

  • I was a teenager when I watched this show and MTM became a role model. I, too, wanted to be a single working gal, have my own apartment in the city, be financially free and independent. And I did it all!

  • George Lopez, Everybody Loves Raymond, etc. I have watched these shows and enjoyed them but after seeing/hearing this theme-of this wonderful show I realize, I, We settle for mediocrity now. Its sad.

  • my all time favorite woman on tv....my idol, MTM.....

  • Mary Tyler Moore should be forever grateful to her very talented supporting staff (Ted, Lou, Rhoda, etc) for making her show a rousing success. MTM is not a funny person, she is not a true comedienne, bland.

Without that fantastic supporting staff, her show would have FLOPPED IN NO TIME FLAT !

  • She was the straight woman like Jerry Seinfeld was the straight man on his show. She was perfect for the role and what the scripts and show demanded. She was trying to make her own way in a new life etc. and was often feeling inside what the other characters were going through on the outside and she ended up being the center they revolved around. She did a fantastic job.

BTW, that is one a hell of a theme song!

  • @mingo09able

... you are entitled to your opinon, but I think MTM was overrated. She was a better actress in a serious, drama role, in my opinion. I would not even consider her a good straight woman in a comedy role. She was blessed with a solid, dynamite supporting staff in this series -- Ed Asner, Ted Knight, Betty White, Chloris Leachman, etc. To me, THAT is why the show was a hit for many years. When watching this show, I got almost zero laughs from MTM herself.

  • 6 people couldn't turn the world on with a switch in their ass!

  • @toyotas2006 I'm afraid if the switch was in my ass ... the world would have to stay turned off too.

  • My goodness, Mary was the loveliest!

  • I wish they'd rerun this series on tv.

  • @yelloworangered -

yeah instead of "Raymond" every hour of every day on TV Land. How 'bout some Laverne and Shirley and original Bob Newhart Show too-instead of "I Dream of Jeannie". Who is doing programming over there anyways?

  • @gravelandgrain100 the jews are doing the programing. No offense but I am jewish too so I know how the work.

  • I liked it when Mary crushed Ted Knight's hat.

  • So glad this is on in reruns again. Love it.

  • she is beautiful!!!!

  • I love how she checks out the runners.

  • my sister was talking about this show and saw this theme song on utube she was talking about mtm and she said and i quote "where is my little hat"haha!i was like huh!?!?:?/soo cute...

  • Mary WAS very hot..always. She was majorly talented and beautiful. THAT GIRL..she was stunning.

  • Listening to this theme on a January Saturday night back in the 70's usually meant the Vikings were gonna get it handed to 'em in the Superbowl the following afternoon.

  • I love it and Minneapolis, MN-Lake of the Isles, the Crystal Court, and Nicollet Mall.

  • @gravelandgrain100 And washing her car in a Fran Tarkenton number 10 jersey!!!

  • And only this show would generate a major obit in the NY Times when the lady behind Mary in the hat throwing ending passed away. She really was a bypasser when they were filming that day and was immortalized. BTW, they have a bronze statute near the site in Minneapolis with Mary tossing her hat. Hard to believe MTM is gone some 30 years. LOVED the show!!

  • @tommiej3 i always wondered about that woman in the background. life is strange when after watching this show for so many years as i was growing up in the seventies i am finally able to discover a fact about the show i would probably never have known without the benefit of a pc. What a great ending to each episode! and what a theme song it was. modern shows lack so much. they just don't get into your heart the way all these shows did.,

  • 5 STARS!!!!

  • Saturday nights!!!!!!!!! lET'S NOT FORGET ABOUT MR. GRANT!!

  • I'm with you jeanandbilly..that was the show..We also gathered around the TV and watched it as a family...was one of my mom's favorites..She passed 3 years ago..I miss her...WIsh they would bring reruns on...

  • Many years later. . .she made it after all.

  • This is just wonderful but I just shed a tear remembering my wee childhood & how the whole family would get together & watch the show.Happy days.Miss you Mom...

  • Every time she throws her hat into the air she has an organism.

  • I don't remember the flute mimicking the melody. Did they ditch it?

  • I loved this show as a young teenage boy! Of course who didn't love Mary. She was everything from smart to beautiful to funny. She has it all!!

  • My favorite moment in the opening sequence is when she throws the piece of meat into her cart with a look of disgust.

  • @generatorx it wasn't so much disgust as...disbeleif, annoyance, etc. This opening was madearound that big inflation in the 1970s, and she was probably thinking, "Wow, it really costs THAT much?".....Oh, what the hell"

  • @LuigiDude1808 My thoughts exactly.Mary's face is priceless LOL!

  • @generatorx LOL me too.

  • yeah. dig that yellow jumpsuit.

  • best part is the dumb bitches behind her at the end wondering wtf this woman is throwing her hat in the air

  • @themodelcitizen2 I STILL laugh at that...also, I actually recently found out that the old woman staring at her at the end was completely unintentional...and that she met Mary quite a long time later.

  • When did this show start and finish? Does anyone know?

  • @VOLVORULEZ1995 it aired on CBS on the saturday night of September 19th 1970 and it ended on March 1977 ran of seven years...One of the greatest sitcoms of all time...You can Google MTM for more information.

  • @VOLVORULEZ1995 1970 - 77

  • Mary tyler moore and Valerie harper in the show there beauty is timeless...love them both...

  • love this song..is a great show..

  • Brings back a lot of very good memories. I love this show.

  • How come the violins are not played right? , they don't sound the same as i remember,.

  • :57 each Actor went on to have successful lead roles on TV shows of their own: Ed Asner in Lou Grant, Gavin MacLeod on Love Boat, and Ted Knight in Too Close For Comfort, later re-named The Ted Knight Show when it was canceled after 3 yrs on ABC then went into first run syndication. Can any show match that?

  • @ranhill and Valeria Harper as Rhoda and Cloris Leachman as Phyllis....You're are right.....Can any show match this awesome classic

  • Ohh the memories.

  • One of the best theme songs ever written! These were good times! Wish they were back! Where are these writers and producers anymore? Oh I forgot now its reality TV hahaha

  • Yes, you are so right! This great theme song and show was great TV! I remember watching this show and wishing I could keep those good feeling you could get from it. They really brought out the goodness of us all. That is what good TV writing is supposed to do, They do not write like that anymore thats for sure. I also always check out the chick closer to the beginning at the elevator that walks by with those big oval shaped glasses and wonder what she is doing now. LOL

  • She's amazing! I am her in my play :) by choice of course!!!

  • ha! just saw when this was ripped off in family guy when peter plays this on the piano and mary tyler moore throws her hat in the air and it gets stuck :L

  • one of the best written, smartest shows ever. Hazel Frederick (the lady being shown in the background when Mary throws her hat in the air) died in 1999. the look she gave is when unnanounced MTM walked into the street and threw her hat in the air. the directors told no one and the stunned look Ms. Frederick gives was caught for all time. HEY TV Land - give up on that stupid George Lopez show and put this on. you say you are all about bringing back the classics. well?????

  • Mary Tyler Moore back then started MTM Enterprises, as many shows were produced. Then in the 1980's, MTM Music Group was formed, a major independent record label in Nashville. Sadly MTM Music Group was shut down due to MTM Enterprises was bought out. MTM Music Group has such recording artists as Holly Dunn, Judy Rodman, SKO, The girls nextdoor, and Becky Hobbs,

  • I love this version of the opening for that priceless short of Moore throwing the stuff into her grocery cart after looking at the price--something everybody I know has done at one time or another. And with just the same disgusted expression.

  • Hippy

  • I can't find the video when Oprah did a parody of the Mary Tyler Moore theme

  • one of the first shows on TV about a single woman as main character.the world was really changing.

  • Mary has said the initial response was "She's in her 30's, Why isn't she married?" They wanted originally for her to be a divorced woman, but that was stopped when the producers thought it would be "Like Laura divorcing Rob" from the Dick VanDyke show.

  • Great opening, lame main character. Rhoda was more real. I'd rather hang out with her.

  • 70s don't even seem so old fashioned as i thought.

  • The legendary MTM we Aussies loved her in the 70`s what brilliant TV.........

  • Holy shit! Hollywood needs to take a look back 30/40 years and learn something: Today's TV shows suck! This stuff is classic.

  • @rubicon1983 Amen to that!! I hear you loud and clear. Curb Your Enthusiasm and 30 Rock are the only sitcoms worth watching.

  • @rubicon1983 The weird thing is, James L. Brooks is STILL producing shows (The Simpsons).

    -------------------------------

Side note: MTM has the best mouth of any actress. She was so sweet but back in my puberty days, I thought inappropriate thoughts about that mouth.

    Hubba hubba.

  • No doubt Placenta. I was just a very young boy when Mary was gracing the airwaves buy I can sure appreciate her now. Beautiful woman driving a Mustang?Wow!

  • @rubicon1983

Dexter? Breaking Bad? Mad Men? The list goes on, what the hell have you been watching?

  • @Fabbyfubz Not that shit. LOL. Dude go turn on the History Channel and quit watching that crap.

  • @rubicon1983

Not sure if serious or trolling... History Channel is a bunch of bullshit conspiracy and alien bullshit now. It's not even history anymore.

  • @Fabbyfubz No, I'm quite serious. I've seen every program you mention and they all suck.. Today's television, like today's music is all without substance and meaning. Pure shit. You're very wrong about the History Channel....also check out National Geographic and Smithsonian. All good. Turn that Dexter shit off. It's gonna make you stupid.

  • @rubicon1983

You know what's on the History Channel right now? Pawn Stars. A fucking retarded show about a god damn pawn shop. When I want to learn, I read about it, not watch some TV show dumbed down for people. And obviously you haven't seen Dexter is you think it's shit.

  • @rubicon1983 I agree. I don't watch the History Channel, but I watch LPB, National Geographic, and Green Planet often. I can't get into these new shows. I have tried watching them, but they just bore me. If I want to watch forensics I would rather watch Investigation Discovery instead of all the CSI clone shows.

  • @ClassicTVful Agreed. fabbyfubz is a moron.

  • classic

  • what is the name of the theme song, and who is it by?

  • @sunbelt9596

Love Is All Around - Sonny Curtis

  • One of the best tv shows ever created. Period.

  • I love this song. So happy when Nick at Nite showed reruns.

  • they parodied the hat in the air part in the family guy episode wasted talent

  • This song makes me want to go Minnesota and toss a hat into the air and watch it stay in place...

  • The theme song was written by Sonny Curtis who is in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame. He also wrote the song I fought the law (and the law won) . He was friends with Buddy Holly and a versatile songwriter for sure.

  • and the very last line were gonna make it after all is from relient k's song pressing on i love those guys

  • LOL.. at MTM's 'powerwalk' along the lakeshore.

  • Jami, Ann, Susan are going to make it after all the Winter Weather Mixes, Warning & Advisories = WITH POWER!!! <3

  • you know the best thing about this theme song and MTM....I noticed when I ever have a crisis in my live or something is not going right in my live, i just have to play this video a few times and it give me inspiration to hang in there and be strong, things will get better. You gonna make it after all is the line that is so powerful to me in this song........Mary has sure done that for me.................thanks Mary

  • @csebrigh Ditto. I thought I was the only one. Bless Mary indeed!

  • @csebrigh I'm with you...This melody just gets into you. Both versions of this song I love.

  • the great Mary Tyler Moore..............timeless

  • Okay, let's get this straight: Mary was hot, no question. From her role on the Dick Van Dyke show as his wife, to this great series in the 70s. Rrrrrrr! Mary, you made a plain name positively sexy!

  • the 70s was the best

  • Australia we love you MTM that was a great TV series, bless her.......

  • MTM was reincarnated as "Sonny with a Chance" on Disney Channel.

  • Fly chick in the 70'dees

  • Fly ass chick in the 70'dees

  • I had to admit to something of a crush on Mary Tyler Moore. She had that little something something about her.

  • The old lady's name was Hazel Fredrick.

  • that old lady in the background of the very last shot , I remember reading about her when she died. She was doing some shopping when that scene was filmed and she just happened to turn her head at the right second. For the life of me I cant remember her name.

  • @ParsimoniousRhomboid Hazel Frederick died in 1999.

  • I love this character. she is my idol

  • mary at that age, she'd be right bout perfect for me now..girls today are so evil..

  • A super song...remember this as a really little kid. Does anyone know who sang it?

  • I think this song was written and performed by Sonny Curtis (from the Buddy Holly's band The Crickets). He is an amazing artist!

  • Correct!

  • for some reason, when i was a kid watching this, i cried at the closing credits, when the bus drove away at dusk. i've never figured out why the hell i did that..lol

  • Comment removed

  • That's kinda cute.

  • I remember this crisp clear as a 9 year old. Not sure what day it came on ay night. But do remember taking a shower with wet hair looking at my mom singing together making fun of her and laughing together. My mom passes away suxI watch this vid reminds me of her and me together in the early 70s

  • So hot in her prime...still good looking for her age, don't get me wrong, but back then especially...Nice!

  • She really did a great job acting..Loved that show..I remember driving by that house.

  • Comment removed

  • i love that old lady
