  • What was it even barking at?

  • Comment removed

  • Also named Borochi in South America

  • Oh, they're so amazing. I've fallen in love with them.

  • I went to Dubbo zooin Australia a few years ago and their 2 wolves did nothing but make this noise for the entire day. It's all you could hear

  • What's so awesome about that bark? Sounds just like some dogs. Lol. Pretty weird species tho - like a hyena/fox/wolf. Although they have adorable ears! :)

  • Its amazing. They have the anatomy, colouring and characteristice of hyenas, wolves and foxes combined. But they live in areas much like African Wild Dogs, and they have a roaring bark which is unlike anything I've ever heard! These are truly amazing animals indeed. <3 I'd love to see one for real one day x

  • I filmed a wild one less than 10 ft from me (check my video). No bad scent, no aggressiveness; he (or she) was only concerned with the food and probably of another guará (their name in Brazil).

I'm not sure but they left the list of endagered species going to near-threatened since their population has recovered substantially, at least in Brazil.

Farmers know now they're not a menace for the cattle and help a lot killing alien rodents.

  • what a beauty !

  • A very powerfull bark

  • It looks like a wolf/fox hybrid! :D I think I just found my new favorite animal.

  • Why was it barking??

  • I've never heard of Maned wolves until now, they're creepy looking

  • Such a deep fearsome noise coming from such a slender animal!

  • somebody's gonna get eaten.

  • Kind of looks more like a Hyena than a wolf.

  • Geez. If I was in a tent and heard that, in the dark of night, I'd probably pee a little.

  • @dbuschhorn I agree, that's one terrifying roar-bark

    .

  • Rawrk

  • So amazing! Could you imagine hearing this at night in the middle of nowhere? That'd be so creepy! Eery and beautiful, I like it!

  • Awesome voice.

  • that is such an eerie bark. i really like it.

  • Such an unusual looking yet beautiful creature. So beautiful.

  • Holy crap, If i saw something like that in the wild making that sound at me, I'd have a heart attack! What amazing animals these canids are!

  • Why is it so rare that this is heard? Do they only do it under certain circumstances?

  • @TheNitroiMPACT They are endangered so even seeing one is rare....but beyond that they are very shy and fearful of humans so when they smell or hear you, they go hide. All wolves are afraid of humans and hide, but gray and red wolves howl for a variety of reasons. Maned wolves just don't vocalize as much as gray or red wolves. Add all of that togeother and that makes hearing this Maned wolf a rare treat.

  • Such a beautiful creature. I love them to bits. I'd love to have a ton of plush toys of them. Hey would it be fine if I visited in my maned wolf costume?

  • ha, my dog woke up and tilted his head at the sound of the roar-bark.

  • This is pretty awesome!

  • do you know of any donation sites working to help save the maned wolf? i have heard a long roarbark myself in person and had the chance to appreciate the unique aroma lol i hope to work with them after college by far my favorite animal

  • @CursedK9 yes...the Endangered Wolf center is one of only a few breeding centers that is capable of rearing naturally born Maned wolves. Visit our Facebook page for more photos of the maned wolves that live there. If you are ever in St.Loius, I hope you will come and visit and see ours. We are a non-profit organization founded by marlin Merkins for the survival and recovery of canids.

  • Wow, what a powerful bark. No wonder it's called a roar-bark XD

  • they sound so large!!!

  • wow love the roar bark

  • It looks part hyena and fox.

  • Amazing Animal I hope I can figure out what that roar means someday..!

  • @ManedGenus22 In this particular case she was almost certainly saying something like 'You don't belong here so get lost'. This is clearly an alarm bark. She started doing it the minute she spotted me and quit doing it when I walked away. Amazing animal in deed!!

  • Whoa!
