They're hypocritical, doesn't care about the community and are ban happy for simple things. The site is Japanese obsessed, funnily enough supports homosexual activity, and the members who aren't banned consistently insult America. This site is for Europeans since most Asians don't go in there. Also the edit you put down will be erased the next day.
It has a lot of info on manga and anime, which is a nice thing, since it's through TVTropes that I found out about that.

i first ran into tvtropes while looking for information about armored core 4 and one thing led to another and i eventualy became a fan of tvtropes and the web original Salvation War
If you ever visit TvTropes, go to Narm Charm page, look up anime examples, find the "Death Note Potato Chip" trope and view the link. You will be guaranteed to laugh for a solid ten minutes straight and will be completely incapable of conveying the hilarity of it to friends and concerned onlookers because you will be laughing so damn hard.
Oh damn that place is a black hole of time, for every link you click on there are at least 5 tropes in each and you end up looking at another 15 tropes before you get back to the trope you started on just to understand the page your on.
You seem to be struggling to describe TV Tropes in the beginning, so let me just say to all who don't already know what Tv Tropes is...is that it's a wiki devoted to describing all known story devices, such as plot details, character traits, and pretty much everything that has ever been used in a work of fiction. Sometimes they even go into nonfiction with such sections as "Real Life" and "Truth in Television."
But looking at the tropes can be really helpful when you're writing a piece of fiction, it can actually stop you from falling into the biggest most common of cliches and help you think of ways to subvert the tropes, to put a new twist on old ideas.
@IzzysRockingsocks The site tries to emphasize that tropes aren't bad, and subversions aren't inherently good. I think you're using the site with the wrong mind set. A lot of people criticize the site for encouraging people to break stories down into "tropes", without considering how it all comes together.
It sucks because it has a crappy moderator who is way too trigger happy. People get banned simply for removing or changing any of Fast Eddie's contributions, which goes quite against what a wiki is about, if you ask me. And don't you dare disagree with him on anything, or you're out as well. Just watch the forums to see how many people get banned for silly stuff like this. Fast Eddie should take a chill pill already.
People talk about how tv tropes ruined their lives or experience in media. I think the exact opposite is true. For me, it just shows me the genius that authors, directors, etc have in blending together these plot elements. I also love just how witty the community is and just how intelligent everyone can be.
Dude. I love that site sooooooo much! I discuss it for hours with fellow tropers in my school and often catch myself referencing to tropes in regular conversation regardless of whether or not the other person knows what I'm talking about. Yes, it's ruined my life, but I like it that way!
I've been there. It's a great site! I don't mind if I knew the ending or not, or that the charaters are just another trope, I just want to be enterained!

If you ever visit TvTropes, go to Narm Charm page, look up anime examples, find the "Death Note Potato Chip" trope and view the link. You will be guaranteed to laugh for a solid ten minutes straight and will be completely incapable of conveying the hilarity of it to friends and concerned onlookers because you will be laughing so damn hard.

You seem to be struggling to describe TV Tropes in the beginning, so let me just say to all who don't already know what Tv Tropes is...is that it's a wiki devoted to describing all known story devices, such as plot details, character traits, and pretty much everything that has ever been used in a work of fiction. Sometimes they even go into nonfiction with such sections as "Real Life" and "Truth in Television."

Yeah, tv tropes is very addictive.
But looking at the tropes can be really helpful when you're writing a piece of fiction, it can actually stop you from falling into the biggest most common of cliches and help you think of ways to subvert the tropes, to put a new twist on old ideas.
Plus it's really fun :)

@IzzysRockingsocks The site tries to emphasize that tropes aren't bad, and subversions aren't inherently good. I think you're using the site with the wrong mind set. A lot of people criticize the site for encouraging people to break stories down into "tropes", without considering how it all comes together.

It sucks because it has a crappy moderator who is way too trigger happy. People get banned simply for removing or changing any of Fast Eddie's contributions, which goes quite against what a wiki is about, if you ask me. And don't you dare disagree with him on anything, or you're out as well. Just watch the forums to see how many people get banned for silly stuff like this. Fast Eddie should take a chill pill already.

People talk about how tv tropes ruined their lives or experience in media. I think the exact opposite is true. For me, it just shows me the genius that authors, directors, etc have in blending together these plot elements. I also love just how witty the community is and just how intelligent everyone can be.

Dude. I love that site sooooooo much! I discuss it for hours with fellow tropers in my school and often catch myself referencing to tropes in regular conversation regardless of whether or not the other person knows what I'm talking about. Yes, it's ruined my life, but I like it that way!
