No one has ever died in the UFC numbnuts. More people die in boxing in a year than in the history of MMA. Boxing has been around since the 1700's and is much more "barbaric" than MMA.
paleocrat, i've always agreed w/ you till now..i'm a fighter as well, its a sport its alot safer than skiing, motorcycles, even football.i do think its the best sport in the world and i'm glad ufc has provided a future for ppl like my self
A lot of the guys who do MMA are not barbaric. It's not a barbaric sport. There have been no serious injuries in the UFC and the only death I've heard of in MMA came from an unsanctioned fight where the guy had a pre-existing health condition. But nonetheless, I think it's insulting and wrong that you generalize these fighters as a bunch of barbarians who will die by natural selection. How will they die if no one dies in this sport???
It's a fun sport and one that's beneficial just like any other. More people die from football than this. Wouldn't that be the more barbaric sport? Are they going to wipe each other out via natural selection? By your logic, football players are barbarians too.
You need to quit the small-minded, rash-thinking mentality.
paleo why are you so worried about what these people are doing? if two people want to get in a ring and beat the snot out of each other and some other people want to sit and watch it
who cares? I don't think it's a big deal. I don't think it's a reflection of our culture.
It's a fringe sport and people watch it for the train wreck effect. Why waste time on this? Talk about Hillary's healthcare plan is a disaster or something like that that is really going to impact my life.
It is a 3 hour long program. About 2 hours of it is talking. I spend most of the time dealing with politics, economics, and religion, but occasionally throw in the odd-ball issue. My brain needs a rest...
i understand the odd-ball issue so this is not a major part of the show, but when you do mention it you seem so upset about it. 'what does this say about our culture' as if we are holding this up as the shining example of what our society should be. we don't. it's activity on the fringe. second, if you spend much more time on policy, economics etc during the show, why not give us more of that stuff on youtube. why give us the throwaway stuff?
The reason I sounded upset was because I took the position, which I so happen to maintain, that it is barbaric and says something awfully nasty about our current state of cultural affairs.
I used to post ALL my clips at one time. I am trying to spread it out more. People weren't commenting because there would be so many new clips all at once. So far I only have a few odd-ball ones. I will post more soon.
I understand about the posting thing. On the UFC stuff, I just can't agree. Barbaric? I don't know. What about boxing? What about football? I think the MMA thing is about people wanting to test themselves against other individuals. I happen to think they are idiots for doing it, but if that's what they want to do, that's fine. I think the only thing it says about our culture is that people are really bored. So we have a few dumb, bored idiots in our culture. Doesn't everybody?
You are well-thought-out and interesting, although not always right :) No one dies in these things. There may have been a few isolated incidents, but these are merely freak things that could happen in any sport. A,B, and C all happen in boxing for sure. Should we outlaw that, too? Does it say something about our culture that we allow boxing to go on? The bigger question: What do you propose to do about all this? Can't be an all problems/no solutions guy.
I mention boxing as well. I think that it is also barbaric, but not as barbaric as MMA.
Just because I believe something is unethical does not mean I think it should be outlawed. In Christian legal theory we distinguish between sins and crimes. While all crimes are sins, not all sins are crimes requiring state intervention.
So what to do Paleo? Just sit back and comment, 'oh this is so distasteful.'? What's the solution? 'All crimes are sins'.In Texas, it is against the law to teach creationism even as a theory.
A teacher that does would have commited a crime. Would she also be commiting a sin?
Do you actually believe it to be odd that someone would criticize something without calling for the civil government (at any level) to get involved? Decrying something as being immoral or unethical doesn't require us to jump-start a campaign for legal prohibition. My advice? Turn off the sets.
We are to honor the state in any and all instances where it is not opposed to the faith or forcing us to violate our faith. I personally oppose any Christian involvement in government schools. They would be susceptible to the sins of volition as well as the sins of commission.
Still, is it a sin? Not necessarily. Is it an ideal place of employment for the Christian? No.
and other issues. i understand you are criticizing w/o calling for gov't intervention. very rare, but good for you. not everything that is wrong is to be regulated by the state b/c of course different people have different ideas about what is right and wrong, it leads to invasion of privacy or reduction of freedom and state doesn't do a godd job at what we set out for them to do anyway, etc. now...
'I personally oppose any Christian involvement in government schools.' This I am grappling with(no pun intended w/the ufc stuff ;) a conservative against teaching our values to our children at the same time protecting gov't run schools? very odd. aren't values an essential part of education?
don't gov't run schools subvert parent's rights and duties to teach values to their children? lastly isn't creationism more than a Christian principle? Very prominent in scientific lit., thought, etc.
I am not at all opposed to teaching values to children. Far from from! And I am certainly not in support of government schools. I pray for the day they go the way of the dinosaur.
The issue is with whether or not Christians should support the socialist concept of government schooling. It also has to do with whether or not Christians should send their children into an education environment that is, in many ways, hostile to traditional values and beliefs.
So what is your opinion about football. Since it puts people into a more dangerous situation..lets say 100 times.
Eat your hotdog ok. MMA is not barbaric. The rules save the fighter SOOO much. If you get pinned and can't move (not really in pain) and you tap...is that dangerous??? give me a break.
A tap out is not dangerous. There is no one getting traumatized. A passout by submission is not dangerous. No one has died in MMA. But many many people died in boxing, football, soccer and other sports. MMA is the most safest sport of all time. Believe it or not. Do your research.
All we need to do is give them weapons, and we have Gladiator Games..hmm I wonder how many more comparisons we can make to The Romans before their empire falls.... If we elect Hilary, I'm out of here.
Business men kill themselves with stress and bad diet. Fighters are some of the healthiest people in the world. Is prize fighting more barbaric than the everyday business world?
I would agree that it is barbaric, but couldn't you equate it to other violent sports such as football? I think all sports are just things we use to express our primitive need to play-fight, like animals do. UFC just doesn't dress it up, it's very basic.

I am glad for those souls brave enough to disagree with me. hahaha Honestly, it is healthy, and keeps me as humble as I am. :)
I have friends and family who love the stuff. I am friends with people who sponsor fighters. Maybe I just don't get it.

People intentionally getting into a cage where they will attempt to pummel someone until:
a. They tap out
b. They're so traumatized they can't fight
c. They pass out
d. They die
All the while, there is a total indifference concerning which of the 4 ends the fight.
Yes, I think it is barbaric. Not a fan of boxing either.

MMA is actually safer than boxing b/c only blows are allowed to the head and in the UFC there are more options allowed.

Your comments are good. I will talk about this on my show this evening. I don't agree with you entirely, but I think it is worth discussion.
You can listen to it live on the internet. Call in if you want.
The feature video on my main page has details about how to listen and call.

It's true man. There are more dangerous injuries in Golf (hilariousingly) than MMA.
Long term brain damage is occured in other sports cause of the hours of getting knocked around in other sports.
once your rocked in mma. They might stop it there. Unlike even traditional sports where your beat over and over and over.
