  • Always liked the Rizutto call over the ABC commentators. The Yankee broadcasters of that era were the best in my opinion. Although Micheal Kay isn't bad either. Thanks for the post. We lost the world series that year, but I so wanted to face the Reds again after we got Reggie Jackson. I think we would have killed big Red in 77. :) Oh well, we did get the ring anyway against the Dodgers.

  • Mark Littell figured he could just keep firing fastballs.

  • It wasn't a bad pitch, but Chambliss was an excellent fastball hitter & he said he was going to jump on the first one. Under other circumstances that's maybe a pitch Chambliss pops up or is late on. Littell was a fastball-slider pitcher. His slider was one of those pitches you don't look for because you're not gonna hit it even if you're looking for it, and if you are and you get the fastball you'll never be quick enough to react. Chambliss gambled that the 1st one would be a fastball & won
