A year after retirement, Kiva is slowly getting to do more normal activities. Just this week she ran off leash for 10 minutes and did a couple of long retrieves. Her new little sister, Savvy, arrived in late October. The pup adds a new level of activity to her daily routine but they do not play together. The back is better, however Kiva still cannot compete at any level. She is enjoying her daily walks, sunbathing, water treadmill, swimming and therapy.
May 17, 2008. Just an update. Kiva's return to more normal activities has been slower than anticipated. She most likely will never competitive hunt tests as the land portion is just too big a risk. I will probably allow her to train a little in water. Obedience is also questionable . . . still hoping we can do some more. Tracking is most likely, maybe we can begin in the fall. Thanks for all the good wishes. Lynn & Kiva
I understand that Josey is only a STD away from her ADCH. She really is amazing and I LOVE all your training videos. Especially the 'tricks'. Ki and did a lot of those (especially toy descrimination) when she was little. Never did the quarter in the bottle . . . I'll try that with our next one. Good luck and hope to see at future trials.
Thanks on Josie :) She's a spcial girl. Yes, only one Std Q from ADCH -- I can't believe it. She turns 2 on Sunday...we'll be celebrating with the, what, FIVE other people at the AKC show in McKinney :) It'll be my 3rd AKC trial ever.
I still remember Kiva's ADCH-day like it was yesterday. The celebrations, then seeing you on the side of the road on our way back to the hotel, taking video footage of the car's damage...what highs & lows!
No doubt this was a difficult decision but the right one. We have always been in awe of your successes and admired your skills. You both have been an inspiration to Maggie and me. You always take time to help others and to promote the sport. We will be looking forward to your return to the Chuting Stars field but we also know that continued success awaits you in obedience, tracking, etc. The video was incredible. Enjoy your retirement!!
We're proud to be listed among Kiva's admirers and friends. Isn't it just like a Lab to play as long as possible?! Good luck in the future and we'll see you at the hunt tests!
I'm so sorry Kiva's career ended sooner than we all hoped; however, I'm so glad to have met you both during your many journeys....I'll miss both of you, but I'll always remember the GREAT team you were....I'm sure wherever your next journey lies, you'll both be fantastic....best of luck!
and, kudos to you for making the very hard decision, and thinking of your best friend first!
