I don't know how old you are but I'm 28 and in the early to mid 90s Green Day was the shit and I still think their earlier music is good but their current stuff is pretty catchy. You can't blame it on the kiddies though because back when I was too punk for punk I would have never admitted that Green Day had some songs that were good. It went against the "punk code" LOL

I don't know if I would classify Green Day as punk in relation to the UK scene but I think as Green Day matured they do/did have some good songs. Again not calling it punk but for what it is I think it sounds pretty good. I think the oddest thing is to compare apples and oranges like UK82 style punk to Green Day (which I would personally label "alternative") Green Day's older shit isn't bad but I'm sure younger generations won't admit it until they get outta the I'm more punk than u phase.
