is there any real difference between "green mt. hop" and "black mountain rag"? they both sound pretty much the same. also, what kind of banjo are you playing. it sounds just amazing.
Because Don Reno recorded it as "Green Mt Hop". He did several tunes like that. He did one called "Pick and Hold" which was basically "Bile Them Cabbage Down". When Don Reno plays an old standard it almost becomes a Reno tune because of his unique style.
How about playing Maggie my all time favorite. Reno played this like no other one I ever heard. Thanks.I am sure you will play it as close as possible.
This was one of a handful of songs I requested Don play when I was selling his records at the record table when I was a teen. I challenge anyone to find the recorded version...Might as well watch this as it is pretty much identical to the recorded version. Thanks Jason/Ross Beverley
Good job! I`ve been tring to figure the "Reno-specific" parts of this one out for fifty years. Now that I see how he (and you) did it maybe I`ll try again. By the way, I`ve still got the Dot record of it; I think "Choking The Strings" is on the back.
Nice pickin! I just got a banjo for Christmas and people like you inspire me! Keep the videos coming! Thanks for taking the time to post this. CORY (IDAHO)

no there's no real difference between the tunes. I play a 1997 Gibson RB75. It's a great banjo. Thanks for the compliment.

A CD set of Don Reno and Red Smiley titled
1951-1959 is out--if you can find it. It has 4 CDs and includes Green Mountain Hop.
